My TV (LG 55LW6500) won't accept 480p signals via component or VGA, and my receiver (Yamaha RX-V673) doesn't upconvert 480p. Nice pairing, eh?
That means, the Xbox/PS2 generation is pretty much DOA to me right now unless I play with composite cables (no thank you). The same for my Dreamcast hooked up via VGA.
I have a cheapo Monoprice VGA/Component to HDMI converter, which upconverts signals to 720p, but the build quality is crap and I get major image doubling and ghosting on the VGA signal. Composite image is washed out and bland.
These consoles deserve better, but it seems there's just no all-in-one solution, let alone multiple standalone solutions that are affordable. I wish there was something like that XRGB Framemeister but for more recent consoles, as they all seem to be tailored to composite retro gaming and CRT image quality.
Emulators are an option for me, as my PC is hooked up to my HDTV, but ripping or ROM dumping games becomes a difficult and costly solution, not to mention a buggy experience.
Saying all of this, what does everyone else use to play last-last gen consoles? Or should I just embrace the emulator scene?
