Chrono Trigger (DS) $14.96 at Walmart.com

I still have my Super Nintendo version... and a PSX version.
Never did finish Chrono Cross. Wonder how that holds up?

Great price, I picked one up.  I thought I had this game (never did have the rare SNES version though) but it turns out I didn't.  Got interested in it again after I watched a play through these past few weeks on my favorite website.  Thanks.

Thats a great deal!  If I didn't already have the game,  I would jump on it.  As a price comparison,   I bought a cart - only copy at Gamestop for $22 a few months back (it was free for me with a b1g1 coupon).

I'm not generally a JRPG fan. Really, the only one I liked was Pokemon. Then I played Chrono Trigger (DS Version). Fell in love with the game. Highly encourage anyone to get it if they can. I also have Chrono Cross (via PSP). It's pretty good and a lot like CT, but I lost the thread midway in and havent been able to get back into it. Being a PS1 port, the graphics are mediocre at best, and the story doesnt seem quite as compelling. It's worth a shot though if you can get it cheap.

Still holds up amazingly. Music is phenomenal and graphics really aren't that bad. Battle system is cool and there are memorable characters. Story is solid too, albeit confusing at times.

Not sure why I never got this when it was on clearance for $10 at Best Buy a couple years back...dumb me.  Heard this was pretty much the definitive version to get.

I've bought almost all the 3DS games I want so far, but I really need to look at the DS games I want.
You'll go broke trying to get the DS' best games.

Great price. Got a (LN) copy from GS a year or so back for $20. Game still holds up incredibly well.

I'd still go with the SNES download on Virtual Console. This would be a close second though. Many prefer the translations/audio on the original. I would categorically avoid the PSX version. Even without the physical burden of discs the slowdown makes it the worst version of all.

I know, it's why I started with 3DS. Just too many DS games. I hope they all don't have a horribly lame touch controls like Kirby Mass Attack has.

Agreed. I tried to a few months back and I spent way more than I should have. Gamestop helped with b2g1 sales, as did flea markets and ebay, but most of these were cart only. Then I tried getting the cases and manuals for these games. Those add up. I have about 50 or so games now and I'm still looking for more. There's a guy on youtube who had 200+ games, and none of them are bargain bin trash.

I thought that was Slickdeals...

In all seriousness, I know what you mean . The more people that know about the deal, especially an online one, the less a chance you have to get it. On the flip side though, you might not have even known about it if it wasn't posted.

You guys could always go check in store and see if the price is the same, or try to price match it.
They don't price match their website. You'd have to price match the website with another store and hope they don't catch the OOS online part of it.

Which is fucking insane. Toys R Us is the same, they price match several stores websites but never their own.

Damn, I would have definitely grabbed a copy. I've been wanting this for sub-$20 for a while. What especially sucks is every possible price match is OoS as well.

Don't forget that the DS version of the game has content not available in any other version. There's a new final boss (which I think helps tie in with Chrono Cross a bit or something I've heard), as well as new items and new dungeons.

Damn I should've bought one to keep sealed. I saw this thread right when it was started. I already have a complete copy but a sealed one would've been nice.

I'll never get the love for this game.  I bought it way back when (fucking Gamestop "new" but unsealed bullshit  :boxing: ) after all the hype and hearing how it's the best game ever and barely made it through my 1st playthrough.  I recently tried it again and I can't finish it.  It is just SO cliche and is completely unfun, I mean aside from the novelty of time travel  (which isn't anymore special than Light/Dark world in ALttP IMO) and the pseudo RTS component there's nothing to this game.  I mean I see how it was different back in the day, but different =/= fun.  DS has much better RPG's, namely Pokemon and Dragon Quest IX.  However, I think Chrono Trigger fits snuggly alongside Earthbound and Xenoblade as some of the most overrated games ever.

I checked in my collection and am actually surprised that I didn't get rid of it yet.  I suppose I should try selling it.....

Rcerboss: Just a question, did you use the turn-based combat or the active time combat?  It might not make you any difference, but if not for the real time component, I'm not sure how much I would have liked the game.  Maybe that's why I didnt get as dragged into Crono Cross....

I used real time. I get that it was a unique concept but I actually found it a bit annoying having to wait for the time meter to move.

Oh, don't besmirch my beloved Xenoblade Chronicles!

It's an offline MMO, I again don't get the love for this.....

I will admit I did enjoy it at first, but not cause of the gameplay. I loved the story and characters, it felt almost like a japanese Tolkien tale and the voice acting was top notch. The gameplay never lived up to that. To be totally honest, if it had ended with the Mechonis I'd probably have felt a bit better about it, even at that point I'd thought the game had overstayed it's welcome, but it just kept going.. This was one of those rare games for me that went on too long and I really felt like the Mechonis fight was a major turning point in the overall quality of the game.

Between the moronic AI, the landscapes (cool at first but quickly became rather derivative and just plain dull, especially on a Wii) and the hellish grinding that became required for the last few boss battles it was ultimately a poor experience. I never felt like I was playing anything truly special aside from the boss fight with the Mechonis (which I must say was one of the single most innovative JRPG boss fights I've ever had). But the game really did end up collapsing on itself and by the time I made it to the disciples I was playing solely to say I had finished it, having no fun with either the story or the gameplay and just wishing for the whole experience to end. Had I not ended up paying a full $50 for this game I doubt I would've bothered to finish it at all.

Just to put it out there, I think an Xenoblade movie would be fantastic. I know it'll never happen but I'd be all over that, even if I had to see it subbed. But, as a game, I don't think it was all that special, certainly not the "best game of all time 10/10" nonsense I always hear.

Oh well different strokes then. No game pleases everyone.
Except Tetris, if you dont like that, you should be destroyed immediately.
just kidding
No, I'm serious

Meh. Tetris is overrated. Generic graphics + dull music = a puzzle game that you wish could solve itself.
