2014 Yardsale thread

Whatever happened to that guy who used to come in here talking about finding tea cups for a dollar to resell on EBay? I have a feeling its the same guy I saw on YouTube when I searched garage sale video game finds who was talking about selling coffee mugs from Starbucks or hallmark for 20 bucks a pop on eBay. I enjoy hearing about the values of items that I wouldn't normally consider buying at a garage sale. Is he /are you still around in this thread?

WWE VHS and DVDS: The one SEALED DVD sells for on amazon for $75

More to come...

WWE VHS and DVDS: The one SEALED DVD sells for on amazon for $75

Well the only one of those that's a DVD is Survivor Series 2002, which is definitely not worth $75 in any condition, and you will have difficulty getting rid of the VHS tapes for free. Still not a bad find if you're a wrestling fan, but there's no value here.

Cheapest for new on Amazon is 75. None on eBay. One did sell a while ago for 30 in auction format.

I will always grab wrestling stuff whenever I see it - DVD, VHS, etc. The prices for VHS seem to fluctuate wildly, but I did super awesome a few years ago when I bought a video stores inventory of wrestling tapes (along with B-movie horror).. Many of the tapes sold for 20, 30, 50, and a few for a 100, and one for 200.

VHS for movies that never got released on DVD have some value usually it's the obscure horror stuff, and the wrestling. The market for wrestling VHS died though, with the exception of a few particularly rare ones. Even the DVDs have dropped down to being worth almost nothing due to the Network. I do see that the highest priced new listings for Survivor Series 2002 are above $75 on Amazon, but this is a case of people can list it for whatever price they want, it would never sell at that price and my teeth would fall out of my mouth if it did.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00007M5KB/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

It used to be $120 new, but people have been competing on price.

Don't be a hater :p

Amazon Sales Rank: 90,431 isn't too bad either. I believe that translates to about 1 sold every 3 months or so, but someone who is more familiar with sales ranks in the DVD category may know better.

BTW: The Skateboard is easily worth $100+ on its own. It is from the early 2000s and it is still shrinkwrapped. It's a name my own price scenario, since it is "new old stock". This was a complete that was produced for retail stores (so it does not have as much value as a custom), but I doubt anyone has brand new ones of this particular model anymore...other than me that is ;)

Yeah B-movie horror is always good. Usually a good plan is to grab pretty much any weird looking big box horror movie.

I don't see many wrestling VHS around these days anymore, but looking on ebay it looks like there are still a number of valuable ones going by just searching sold items.

Something like this makes me wish I didn't throw out my 100 or so vhs tapes I recorded when I was younger.

Now, I don't want to be a hater, but I doubt that if that board was produced for a "retail store" it would be worth that much. Mass produced completes usually have crappy trucks, bearing and wheels as well as being made from weaker wood (which is how they are marked down to the price the store sells them for). If it has quality trucks, wheels, bearings, griptape then I could see it going for that much. But, just as when Maple started mass producing completes for retail stores, the boards where junk and a decent company went the way of the big box big bucks market. Again, not hating but I do consider myself a bit of a skate nerd since I have been actively involved in the scene since 1989.

What kind of trucks are on it? I have not seen a Sims deck in a loooooong ass time. And surely you can get more than 7.50 out of it :D/

I'm going to have to find it and get back to you. I know what you are saying about completes like the "made in china" birdhouse and airwalk decks, but I believe this was a "higher end" complete. I believe it is like the powell "golden dragon" completes, where they have trucks/wheels that are made special for that complete and branded with the parent company's logo. Mind you most of the value comes from the fact that it is OOP/OOS in terms of a collectible rather than someone looking to ride it.

Skatebording stuff has really picked up since the bones brigade rerelease. People are trying to get $100 just for some of the stickers that I have from the 80s. My brother is pissed he sold one of his for $30 a couple years ago.

Maybe you can help me identify it. I'm guessing it is from the early 2000s based on the shape and size of it (and the fact that I can't even find a pic of another one the internet) and based on the other items and age of the person selling it at their garage sale. (that wrestling DVD is from 2002) and it seems like most of their sons stuff was from that 2000-2005 era.

You nailed it. Its funny how things have picked up, like old heads are having a nostalgia attack and young hipsters wanna be...hipsters. I have a quarter-pipe at my moms with about 500+ stickers from the late 80's/early 90's, wonder if there is value in those. Search For Animal Chin, that shit changed the game. My first deck was a PP Cabalerro

not my copy, as it is hanging on my wall and has some damage

Now as for the deck you have, I would say it is about that year. It could be older, as its shape is not narrow like newer boards. I looked online, and the only thing that shows up is old school decks :( Looking at the pics, I can't see the base of the trucks for a name (indys were the only ones I remember not having a name on the base). Are the wheels blank or do they have a logo/design? If you spin the wheels and they spin fast (and for a long time) the bearings are good ones.

It is at my parents house, so I'll have to get back to you on it. :) I am fortunate, I was more of "a poser" than a "skate rat", so I still have my Neil Blender Picasso G&S complete with OJII wheels and purple indy trucks and my per welinder skull deck ;) (come to think of it, IDK if I ever saw another set of purple indys)

I always wanted that Cab model. I had to settle for the sticker.

IDK if you know about old snowboards (or if anyone that reads this thread does), but if you do, you will shit yourself when you see what I found about 5 or 6 years ago. I'm not sure if I ever posted it on CAG (it was the same year I found some of my best lots ever- either 2008 or 2009). I'll post it in a couple days.

That wrestling DVD reminds me of the sealed Shawn Michaels DVD I got for free a year or two ago.  At the time it was selling for $30 on amz, with the guy at $30 selling it as an "open box" lol.  I have been lowering the price whenever I come across it in my inventory and he always lowers his within a day or two.  Finally I got annoyed and put it down to $4 and it still didnt sell.  I avoid wrestling DVDs now unless its just for me.  That NWO docu on netflix was pretty good FYI.

I'm sure the market has probably taken a huge hit since the launch of the WWE Network, but there will always be people who want the original releases without all the music edits and such.

Not sure I ever saw purple indys myself. I remember buying Gullwing trucks because they had a black base to match that deck lol. But after I got some sense, Thunder was always the way to go as Indys weigh a friggin ton.

Hey, I settled for many o' stickers because of that same reason. Corey O'Brien Grim Reaper comes to mind...

Not familiar with snowboards all that much, always was too poor to afford any of that stuff (plus, nowhere to do it at in the small town I grew up in). Post it up though! Love seeing the finds you come across.

+1 for the Neil Blender reference, +4 for owning a deck of his

At one point there was talk on this thread of compiling a list of rare and expensive VHS to look for at sales. Maybe even creating it's own separate thread.

I pick up old, obscure horror films, MTV promotional videos, period specific sports videos, Sports Illustrated swimsuit / Playboy Centerfold videos, anything that there is little chance to be re-released. Most of them turn out to not be worth the effort though I have run into a few surprises.

Something to note, of the completed listings on ebay one of the most expensive was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders from 1994-95 which sold for $910!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dallas-Cowboys-Cheerleaders-from-1994-95-VHS-/380847239799?pt=VHS&hash=item58ac43b277

That Neil Blender is a tank. I had "gorilla rails" on it, so it weighed even more. I could barely ollie with it. Mostly just rode off of curbs, did railslides and used it for transportation. Meanwhile my brother could ollie onto the table part of a full sized picnic table at the park (which was a pretty big deal in the 80s). I wish we had a video camera back in the day.

I busted out our homemade railslider about 10 years ago and I figured I would go balls out (assuming that the reason I wasn't good at skateboarding was because I was scared of falling) turns out the reason I sucked at skateboarding is because I have bad balance. I ate shit and bruised my hip so bad I could barley walk. haha

I still have a giant O'Brien reaper sticker. That deck was awesome. I wanted that one and the Ken Park "Crystal Ball".

I had another flashback. When I was in college and in a punk band (hence I hung out with "newer" skateborders), I remember watching a skate video called "shit" (or at least that is what they told me it was called) and Johnny Knoxville (not sure if he called himself that) shot himself in the chest point blank with a revolver and a bullet proof vest. I know it wasn't jackass because it was before the show existed. I keep doing searches for "shit" VHS, but I only get the metallica video. I just remember eating a burrito and being drunk, but I know I didn't imagine it.

Sorry everyone. I'm done rambling for now.

EDIT: Now I want a steak burrito and there isn't anywhere open that I can get one. (A big downside of living in the burbs.)

A list would be a good idea, but then it is one of those things that if at a yardsale it would be hard to pull out and search through the giant box or shelf of vhs.

Generally any big box horror vhs - Continental, Wizard, Gorgon, etc. will be worth it. I'm guessing a person wouldn't sell a VHS tape for more than 2 bucks (probably a lot less) so even if it is only worth 5 or 6 bucks you do fine is you paid a quarter.

VHS prices are a funny thing. I once in a while go on to see what prices are for things I'm selling or have sold and they can swing wildly one way or the other. Things I sold for 30 jump up to a 100 and others I sold for 200 fall down to 50.

I don't get many VHS anymore. I keep an eye out for them, but I haven't seen a rare horror tape in over a year. I'm guessing it is getting to that point where they are almost all dried up - either thrown away, in the hands of collector's, etc.

Some of the old Godzilla movies that haven't been put on DVD are actually pretty rare.

That Knoxville footage was from a video from Big Brother skateboarding magazine.
Thank you! Sorry if we already discussed that in this thread. 1st movie is called "shit" and the other 4 are all other names for poop. I knew I saw it. Thanks!

Here is my Neil Blender complete. I have the tail bone and nosebone somewhere. I took them off because it was so heavy.

And the trucks used to be reflective purple. I'm not sure if they turned black with age or if I painted them black, but I am pretty sure they changed color over time. You can see the purple in the pic (under the black)

OK. Here is my snowboarding find (a few of you may have seen this in the past):

Burton Backhill Snowboard $5

completed listings (no, mine is not as nice as the first one):

That's a great snowboarding find. Do you still have the board or did you sell it? If you haven't sold it I say wait until December before selling. I can't even get a crappy board with no bindings for cheap. I've tried for a few but they cost too much money here. I also really like the straps on that Burton. Looks like it would be fun to ride.

Dood, the skate parts in that video were pretty damn tight. One of my favorites from way back is Welcome to Hell (toy machine). Jamie Thomas is a badass, don't believe that then watch this

To comment on the "afraid to fall" aspect of skateboarding, Rodney Mullen did a TedTalk where he brought up an interesting concept of character building rooted in skateboarding. It can be applied outside of that topic to any part of life, but it rings true to me. Watch It Here

I don't know. Skateboarding meant so damn much to me when I was younger. It gave me an outlet, a group of people to share a common interest with and build bonds, and allowed me to focus on something that really had a purpose as opposed to school, sports, etc. Totally of topic, but I feel the need to share the importance of what it can do for people on a number of levels.

I still have it. I took that picture today ;) (The original shot was in a basement, so it wasn't very visible). I can't sell it. I'll probably leave it to my older brother in my will. One day I will be crushed by my hoard, so it only seems fair since he only rides burton boards.

As far as the VHS list goes, I would love to have one, but I am not sure anyone wants to put in the effort. I know I have a sealed godzilla movie that is valuable somewhere around here.

I'm probably going to retire from yard sales soon, so I am trying to decide if I want to make youtube videos or my own site or what for tips. I'm not even sure if anyone would be interested, but I would love to pass on what I know to someone. Maybe a podcast...I would need to make some type of money off of it no matter what the format (I got to gets paid yo). Probably not youtube, I am not as pretty as I once was. lol I don't think I could take the trolling.

Just saw Masa's post: Mullen was made fun of when I skateboarded for being a freestyle skater...little did we know the tricks he was doing would be the future of the sport. No one did kickflips at that time.  I just watched the whole video. I didn't even know he spoke at TED.

I had a solid morning, nothing sensational but I was happy with it:

First sale:

Star Fox Adventures (GC)

Odama (GC)

True Crime Streets of New York (GC)

The Conduit (Wii)

The Last Remnant (360)

Jade Empire Strategy Guide

Total: $9.50

At a later sale:

Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law (PS2-Sealed): $2.00

Then later:

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)

Lord of the Rings Conquest (360)

GC first party controller

Total: $10.00 (overpaid a bit, but they wouldn't go down on the first day and LOTR will more than double my money so...)

After the garage sales I also swung by Half Price Books and found:

PS3 Street Fighter Mad Katz Controller: $4.00

Mario Strikers (GC): $4.00 (missing cover art, but does have the disc and manual in a GC case)

They finally dropped that controller. It's been $15 for like 2 months. It was the Ken one right? ;) I'm still trying to figure out how they mark stuff down there. AFAIK that went from $15 to $4...That's a pretty big drop. I would expect them to go to $7 or something since that is "half".

I bought a "Miracle" piano SNES CIB except for the game there in January. They had it marked 19.99, but I ended up paying $5 since it didn't have the game. I figured that would be a $100-$200 item once I had the game to go with it. BTW Is there a HPB thread?

I only went to a couple sales today and I didn't find anything. But since I am the Cal Ripken of garage sales, I had to go out to keep the streak. 20 years garage saling this year. :oldman:

I am very jealous of that Miracle piano... got me on that one.

It was indeed the Ken controller, originally 15. Missing the USB part though, but I may be able to get one from Mad Catz it seems.

It was ok. I didn't buy as much as I usually do. There were a lot less bargain books than years past. I did see hacksaw Jim Dugan and Taimak, so that was pretty cool. I brought my copy of "the last dragon" for him to sign, but he wanted $20 for a sig and a picture, so I didn't bother. Were you at C2E2?

I think they are just paper glued to pegboard. I don't think they were official nintendo releases either.
Yeah was at C2E2 me and the wife did some looking but sadly just bought the Rocket Raccoon shirt and a glass. Funny enough didn't buy or snag more free stuff this year. Good deals you run into i see especially that sealed SOTN. Curious what is everyone prime find they are looking for? Me probably don't have one personally maybe a good SNES collection or a rare toy from my childhood.

Pretty much any older games I don't have, but aside from that Nintendo memorabilia or TMNT 80's stuff.

Also - does anyone know of any easy place to figure out about bakugan. I've picked up to carry cases full of them for a dollar each and don't know anything about them. Just checking finished auctions it seems like some are worth a few bucks each and some aren't. I'd like to get an idea before I toss them up there.

I had never seen them before and was trying to figure out how to transform them when I dropped one onto the cards and it popped open. Pretty cool idea with the little magnets inside.

Oh I get you on a lot of them, I just don't post it here. j/k

That controller had a really high TIV at amazon (it might still), but I figured it was supposed to have a cable or a receiver with it to sync.

As far as what I am looking for...I own the majority of what I would want (or realistically expect to find), but I like unique/oddball stuff. I still want a nintendo kiosk, but I doubt I'll find one of those. I was supposed to get a GC one from a kmart store that was closing, but supposedly they threw it out...I'm sure someone took it home. I would say a Super Nintendo Kiosk, would be enough to get me to throw in the towel. :)

I used to say "The USS FLAGG" from GI JOE, but I have found 2 of them (I still have to combine them and hope that I have 1 near complete aircraft carrier.)

Realistically I own more than I could ever need and I would give up *most of it for the right woman. But in theory if she is the right woman, I could keep whatever I wanted to. lol

Oh wait. I know what I want. Some type of original production art...like the metal gear art or something like that. A hand drawn or painted production piece related to video games.

The one thing I would like to find is a vectrex with the game hyper chase and spike. If I had that I'd be happy. Also I'd love to find a copy of E.V.O.

On a side note, I was unaware that they did miricle piano for SNES. I have my NES piano and cart with the box and everything else that I found years ago at a junk store.

Second side note, I actually passed on an SNES kiosk. I was about 10 or so and they wanted $40 for it. That was a lot of $$$ for a kid my age. I still regret it.

I believe the piano works with both systems if you have the games and dongle connector thing specific to each system. On each end there is a super nintendo sticker that is covering up something. I assume it is system requirements list. They probably repackaged the piano with the SNES plug/dongle and the SNES game, but kept everything else the same. I'm guessing, but to me it seems like that is most likely what they did.

I know you do, haha. I get you some too though. That HPB though has really upped their prices this year though.

As for my dream find, some of the expensive SNES gamea would be great. I have 17 games values over $50.00 I want on SNES. I have 15 for all other systems combined.

Aero Fighters
Hagane
Wild Guns
Evo
Earthbound
Pocky and Rocky 2 (had before I sold my collection in 07...)

More realistically, first party GC games are some of my favorite finds. They sell easy, have jumped up in price, and I can use what I get from that to buy the games I want.

Miracle Piano also has a Genesis adaptor.

Ya, I would love to find a Vectrex or Turbo CD (or duo). Those and a Neo Geo are the only expensive systems I still want...

Ohhh, yeah a turbo CD or a jaguar for me. I don't have either of those...Ive always wanted a power glove too. I guess there are things I want...oh and the NES robot...and ROM (robot) and a Y wing, B Wing and imperial shuttle. Oh no the floodgates are open! I really hope I find a large amount of skycommanders. ok I'm done for now. original Cheetara MOC! I need to STOP!! Basically any boy's toy from the late 70s-90s.

I have a Jaguar, had to ebay it though. Got it for 30 shipped on ebay. System only untested, gambled and it paid off.

Rob would be cool for sure...

i would like to find a yard sale that isnt raided by some creeper at 7 in the morning. thats my dream find.

you guys have some solid luck!

I will admit that my Virtual Boy in-store kiosk is one of my favorite things. People always want to play it or at least see it lit up.

I'd love to get a SNES one since that was my golden-age of gaming (ages 6 - 11).

I could always use a Neo Geo, Turbo Duo, or some crazy rare game, but at this moment I've gotten so much over the years that it is pretty hard to find stuff I don't have. Sometimes I think it is new, but then I look at my parents' house (where 99% of my old games are kept) and there it is. I need to sit down and invest a day into making an excel spread sheet. I had one a long time ago but the harddrive failed on that laptop and I didn't bother trying to recover anything.

Looking at my posts from 4 years ago shows me that it is getting less likely to find those rare SNES, SEGA CD, etc. I use to find a good amount of that generation, but now it seems that has pretty much dried up (for the most part). End of 2008 I ended up with 3 complete copies of Snatcher within a few months.

I'm mainly after the games I rented as a kid and loved, but never actually own. Unfortunately I have expensive tastes, like Demon's Crest, Mega Man X2, and E.V.O. Ah well, as least I still have Earthbound and all my Square RPGs.

Ooo, a top-loader NES is something I need as well. And a Gamecube component cable.

My dream finds:

Earthbound!!!

Sega CD

Sega Saturn

Complete Mario Party collection

Any RPG games I don't have (PSX and SNES mostly)

1st party Nintendo games in general

Any oddball console I don't have yet (neo-geo, jaguar, vectrex, etc.)

But yeah, played Earthbound as a kid on an emulator, loved the crap outta that game.  Shame it's so expensive to get a physical copy.

Today's yard sale finds was pretty damn good. I had to work from 6am-9:30am sadly but it was pouring rain until 9:15, and there were not that many people out when I started shopping. Here's what I got...

Only gaming item- Peak Starpex Guitar for PS2/PS3: $12

Lyon Bass Guitar- $25

This ****ing massive CRATE BX-100 guitar amp that will drive my parents crazy: $50

A K'NEX Roller Coaster set. I was told there may be a few small pieces missing, which isn't a big deal because I have a bunch of random pieces in my basement. I thought this was the coolest thing ever when I was a kid. In one of my 5th grade classes we built this model. I bought this for $2

Lion Train lamp- $10

Here2Anywhere Sirius radio thing- $5

RosettaStone Version 3 French software levels 1-5: $30

Kinda pissed I got beat to a "like new chrome vintage huffy" today that sold for $20

Hey, is that a Huffy? That's a nice-lookin' bike, boy!
I ran into some enemies today, but I still managed to find some non gaming stuff that they overlooked. I'm not going to post it though ;)

I should be picking up a NES lot in a few hours from a woman I met last week.

Bakugan is a tough one. When they introduce a new series even the low level knew overpower the high level ones from the previous series.
That's why I have steered my kids away from it. Even if they had a ton, they couldn't compete with their friends that have new ones.
Beyblade and pokemon are good enough for now.

And on a garage sale find topic. I picked up a box of yugioh cards today for $10. Got home and after looking through it, there are probably 8-10,000 cards in it. I don't even know where to start with them. The game is still as difficult for me to understand as it was 10 years ago.

The game is actually more difficult now than it was before, older cards are useless in game. You can still sell to collectors though, I used YugiCo as my price guide.

If you do check prices, check holos first. Have fun sorting through 10k cards! lol.

Man, wish yard sales in california are like this. Been to a couple of saleas all were just crap stuff. How do you guys find such cool stuff?

Well as you say, you've been to a couple of sales. 95% of sales are nothing but junk. You find stuff by hitting a ton of aales and eventually getting lucky.
