Question for you guys: have you ever been double-charged for purchases on the Playstation Store? I just looked at my bank account and Sony's pre-authorized a total of $39.88 in purchases, when I only bought about half that (one month of PS Plus, one copy of Kenka Bancho, and Injustice for the Vita). What do I do about it?

I just googled 'double pre-authorization charges' and after a bit of reading it seems like a common issue in general. It seems that sometimes it's the vendors fault, sometimes the banks fault, and sometimes the users fault (a slightly incorrect address, for example).

The most common time it happens is when there are extra security measures in place like having to enter a CVV. I'm not totally sure why that causes any sort of issue, but it basically sounds like sometimes the handshake between the bank and vendor goes a bit haywire and two authorizations occur, and this 'bad handshake' is sometimes a glitch in the system, and sometimes due to a user typo.

Essentially, yeah. Microsoft's doing the same thing this week, with many of the same games on sale.

I talked to Sony customer service about this, and it seems the double charges have been a problem for a lot of people. They also said it should be fixed by tomorrow, but if it's not, you'll have to contact the bank.

Please use the word "rape" responsibly. It's hard to take anyone's comments seriously when they use such hyperbolic wording. I have never been raped and am not sure I know anyone who has, but it has a much more serious implication than simply over paying by a few dollars for a video game. I would imagine that anyone who has been raped would feel quite insulted by how easily the word is thrown around. I'm not trying to make anyone (including you) feel bad or insult anyone. I just think we sometimes use terms without thinking about better or more appropriate alternatives.

I don't ever use 'rape' in that context but I I've also never given it much thought. It's crazy because I know people say it all the time but I really can't think of an appropriate example. lol, it does sound bad when you play it back in your mind. So, going to side with @affa on that.

But I do agree with @nixon's sentiments. Indie game price structure on consoles is silly. I'm not sure how much controls these guys have over pricing but I do wish there was more parity with PC. I'm not expecting humble bundle level though. As a result I rarely, if ever, buy day 1. And I'd love to throw more support by buying early, but it just doesn't make sense to.

Except that when those sorts of games launch on Steam, they're priced exactly the same way at $15 or so with maybe a 10% or 20% discount at launch, so why do they need to be priced low when they launch on a new platform because it's been on sale in the past? Both The Swapper and Rogue Legacy are $15 right now on Steam, so they're a little bit more on PSN to bundle three versions together with a PS+ discount that puts it in line with their full price on Steam and the cashback offer brings that down to just under $11 each on average. If you wait just like you would on Steam, you can get it on sale for a more appealing price compared to what it is at launch.

I'm not saying I expect the exact same price, but sometimes it's laughably bold. An example that comes to mind is Limbo. I cannot recall the initial asking price but I know I scoffed. Devs are welcome to do as they please but I'm not going to deny feeling a bit slighted with vita, at least. You show up 5 years late with a premium on a port that likely doesn't run as well? C'mon son.

There is the rare case where the benefit of having it in portable form more than justifies the "tax". Especially when cross-buy is involved. Hotline Miami. Tearaway. Steamdig. I

Damn, didn't see this before I replied to squirrel, but I was mostly referring to late ports on vita. I know it's less of a thing now. And it's not because I was being cheap either. Hell, most of the games I already had on PC so I just wanted to throw more support. I guess they figure the cross-over between vita/PC gamers isn't that great in which case I can't entirely blame them. But it sure is a hard pill to swallow when you know something is like 10x less on another platform, lol.

I'm hoping Nidhogg launches with a good price a I want that day 1. Considering Rogue Legacy. I have Swapper on PC and the shit was hard, so no thanks squirrel!

I think people forget that the pc gamers that wait a year to get games as part of some $4 bundle or $2 during a steam sale are not exactly the primo demographic.    They aren't going after deep discount double dippers when they port a game to a new system.  Rather, they generally do have price parity with current retail prices (as opposed to sale prices) on other systems because they recognize they're marketing to a new group of people.

Well, yeah, I mentioned they likely weren't concerned with people who game on both platforms. And unless you're on PC you're probably not aware of the prices.

One thing I had to consider is competing vendors on PC. So that usually helps in driving the price down or at least offering more frequent sales. I guess it's a bit much to expect devs to voluntarily reduce theirs on a closed marketplace. I get it - that's capitalism. I just don't like it. But, again, to their credit indie devs are now much better about release parity so at least we peasants can play alongside everyone else.

Also, Monaco absolutely needs to make its way to consoles. That's another I would double dip for.

EDIT: Annnnd just looked up Monaco to find it's on XBLA. There goes that dream. fuck.

I grabbed all of the Play games, they all look fantastic, the only problem is finding time. With Last of Us next week, PvZ Garden Warfare, Diablo 3, Metro Redux next month plus whatever 2 PS+ games we get, not sure I'll get to it all before Destiny, but yeah PS4 has no games! I'm also tempted to grab Injustice PS4, Lego Barman 2, Arkham Origins, and Blackgate, crazy sale! Quick question, when do we get the $10 Play credit?

Not necessarily. Microsoft requires a year of exclusivity on XBLA games, and that has just recently expired so it could very well come to PSN sometime in the not so distant future (clearly ports take longer than we'd think).

 
I was weighing my options on picking up Injustice and Marvel on PS4. I was considering the install size versus digital/physical and to my amusement i come to find it actually doesn't matter. Since they all take up the same amount of space.

I recall reading somewhere that Monaco did very poorly on X360, so I don't think they have a whole lot of incentive to give it another chance on PS3.

Also, I'm gonna show The Swapper who's boss!

Yeah, it didn't do great on 360. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I feel like it was something around 3/4 to 1 compared to its PC numbers. Probably not a huge chance I suppose, but you never know.

And if you wimp out with The Swapper I'll never let you forget it.

Essentially the Ultimate Collection is 4 DLCs which are typically $9.99 per DLC so it's a steal if you are actually interested in the game.

I do believe the 4 DLCs are pre-chosen so you can't pick which 4 DLC you want to get (currently there are 10 DLC packs up). I would play the game first but the sad part is DCUO is a massive download and typically takes a full day to download with my internet speeds. I've played it before but my brother got my original PSN account banned by buying shit under my account without letting me know. I can't make myself replay it now.

I do know three of the DLC packs come with new power abilities.

You have Fire, Ice, Nature, Mental, Sorcery, and Gadgets (Batman Inspired) then the DLC packs come with Earth, Light (Green Lantern inspired), and Electricity (Flash inspired)

DLC packs include an extended storyline to explore as well as extra features sometimes.

BUT DCUO is actually free to play so you can actually burn through a lot of hours just doing the main objectives and exploring difference sides. You can play on the Villan Side (Joker/Circe/Lex Luthor) or the Hero Side (Batman/Wonder Woman/Superman). Each side technically starts out in their own native location but further down the light you can easily travel between locations and do other story lines with parties (If you chose Superman you can party up and do the Wonder Woman storyline then travel to Gotham to finish up Batman's storyline but can't change sides so no Villan storyline)

So...that is my two cents on the game. I'd go back and play it but my buddies don't play it anymore.

It also got delayed at the last minute, so anybody that really wanted it could have gone with the PC version instead to steal away potential XBLA sales. I believe it just got randomly released a week or so later with all of the hype having been blown for the original release date.

I think it's more that the deal for MVC3 ended since it's an older game while MVCO is a newer game that will expire at some later point.

I didn't see it in the OP, does Sony release the new PS Plus games at a certain time each month? Do the games become available right away?

I just got a Vita and I want to get a couple older games (Hot Shots Golf especially) and I'm thinking of waiting to see if it becomes part of the IGC.

The new schedule is all 6 games on the first Tuesday of the new month.
