The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Hmm...the digital versions of the Shin Megami Tensei games seem tempting at their prices.  I have all of the PS2 games on disc sealed waiting to be opened, except for the Devil Summoner games.  Now to convince myself that I should just open my sealed copies and play them.  Instead of spending the cash on the digital versions, as my 750GB PS3 hard drive is getting full.

Au contraire. People usually recommend FES over P3P for first timers since it has cutscenes and you can actually walk around the city. P3P simplifies it by giving you fast movement, direct control on party members and cutscenes are in VN form. P3P is really good for second playthrough, but if it's your first time, play FES for the full experience.
I enjoyed P3P more than FES because of the ability to control your party members.

Not to mention FES has The Answer, which P3P does not. FES really is the full P3 experience. I just wish we had a version with the gameplay improvements of P3P, but with the full game like FES.

people only rec fes because of cutscenes otherwise p3p is superior as it has skill cards and as you mentioned direct control of party members along with the better new social links on femc's side.
You miss out on cut scenes, world exploration, and the epilogue--The Answer--which can be ~30 hours. I think that's more than enough to recommend FES for the first play.

For FES...be aware that they remade Persona 3 into Persona 3 Portable for PSP. P3P contains most of Persona 3 FES, but also adds the ability to play a female character and some other components. It also adds some of the new gameplay elements that were introduced in Persona 4. P3P does lack the specific FES addition, The Answer, which is kind of an epilogue. What a lot of people recommend doing is playing P3P and then just watching the half hour cinematic at the end of The Answer on Youtube.

The answer isn't worth playing. You are better watching it on YouTube
I agree with all of the above. With all of the improvements added to P3P, especially being able to control all of your party members, makes it a much better game than FES. The Answer is just a long boring grind that is just trying to add more length to the game that isn't needed. As already said, just watch the cutscenes related to it on YouTube. If you want to watch the others from the original game, do that as well.

Dang, between one piece, and Atlus games alone I now regret only getting 1ps $10 card from ganestop last month :/

SAO's price is just a bummer. Digital games I feel shouldn't cost exactly what a physical copy would be, mainly because SAO's price is in full Vita physical copy price. If it was $30 I would say it's a bit steep but about right for this game. I'm tempted and I may go for it, but that price is really off putting.
see I get that, and normally I would be the same, but since I really want to own the SAO games physically someday and there will be sequels I am planning on buying this one right away tomorrow to help show there is a market for the game, and then ideally buy future games physically...

if namo doesn't respond to sales with a physical version though then it will be waiting for a sale and screwing their lack of.... but they seem to be coming around again (I mean hell we got a physical one piece release in NA again o_O) so I will try influencing them this one time.

just too bad on digital games only they dont sell them in packages for discounts like

40 for 1

120 for 4

allow   4 friends to get together and  buy them ., might bring more people in that would not pay  40

Yet they don't release Gundam games and just do digital now like that most recent Gundam Dynasty Warriors game, when previously they released Gundam games physically. It's really hard to tell with them, though it's a pretty sure thing for some games, mainly the Tales games released on console systems (not 100% for the portable versions yet), will likely get physical releases.

Just opened my Xillia 2 CE. Noticed on the back of the box for the pocketwatch was a warning that says "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer"

I didn't know Cancer was a bonus item in the CE.

I don't live in California, so I think I'm safe! Whew!

I'd never want to put that watch in my pocket. I don't want cancer on my junk.

Its a REALLY nice replica though. If only it were actually a pocket watch, it'd be the only one that I think could surpass the awesomeness of the Lightning Returns one.

I definitely don't regret it for only 110$. They have been stepping up their CE game since Symphonia's. Wonder if the price will actually go up on this one or not

Everything is known to cause cancer in the state of California.

There is probably a trace amount of lead in the paint or it uses BPA or any number of other things.

If there is a chemical that caused cancer in just one human or lab rat, they have to list it or they can get sued if someone does get cancer. There would be a massive lawsuit on their hands.

It's no different than drugs and them listing every side effect in the book.

Prop 65 is kind of nuts if you really want to learn about it though. I've had to deal with getting a product removed from the requirement to tag it at work, it's virtually impossible. Most places just tag anything questionable since no one really looks at that stuff.

You miss out on cut scenes, world exploration, and the epilogue--The Answer--which can be ~30 hours. I think that's more than enough to recommend FES for the first play.
cutscenes youtube. world exploration lmao. You mean instead of moving the character model around the tiny world I get to move a circle? /doesn't care. as for the answer eh its got mixed reception. some like it some don't some think yukari is a giant fuck ect. tbh the opening scene where the shadow claims a victim is actually an improvement thanks to the anime portrait. Very detailed and since its not 5 seconds long you get to actually enjoy it. I will say the first battle cutscene was definitely missed though. in engine was so so but not as good as the original.

ooh and another thing to mention the operation babe hunt and sports sections are less tedious on femc side. the girls and kaz hanging out at the hotel was actually pretty funny and a major improvement over the crappy class trip.

I hope if they do vacation stuff again it isn't filler and a total snooze fest in p5. Still makes me mad that the characters get to do fun stuff off screen. Also would of been sweet as hell to have new areas to explore and a limited time dungeon for those sections.

Because when I'm playing a game, there's nothing I like more than stopping to watch a removed cutscene on youtube! And convenience aside, you really can't be trying to say that moving the circle around is more engaging or 'better' than actually getting to walk around the world? You miss out on a lot of detail that way. And even with The Answer being rather iffy, it's still more content. I will totally agree that the P4 benefits brought to P3P make the battle system and Tartarus exploration far more enjoyable, but with a game that is so story driven, cutting out walking around the world, cut scenes, and the--albeit mediocre--epilogue seem like bad draw backs for the first experience.

"moving the circle around is more engaging or 'better' than actually getting to walk around the world?"

there's basically no difference between the 2 other than an image being shown moving around. and I would care about walking around the world if it wasn;t a tiny empty place.  Of which inaba didn't improve upon either.  If it wasn't for social links, shops and sidequests I'd probably never visit the majority of those places anyway since nothing of interest ever happens.

Give me a reason to traverse areas instead of just making them empty filler.  like the street outside the dorm. what exactly do they ever use that space for? Npc's don't even use it outside the copy paste zombie ones from time to time.

Is anybody else biting on Natural Doctrine? I'm a huge whore for those kinds of titles but I can't get over this sense it's going to flop horribly.

Man, wish I could play Nocturne and Digital Devil saga games on the Vita :(. I'd buy them in a heartbeat

I've been doing this for PS2 games I haven't played yet when they're $5 or less. For that it's worth the convenience of playing on the PS3. Once those other SMT games I haven't played go on sale for more than 20% off, I'll probably pick those up too. Not having to deal with small ps2 memory cards is probably worth it alone.

Yup, I was sold on it by the collectible card aspect of the multiplayer, and the $40 + $10 credit deal at Amazon made it a day-1.

Yep, a day one buy for me. I love srpgs, plus I'm a sucker for card games.

I'm also guessing it won't do great sale wise. But I think it will sell more than a game like that normally would, since the PS4 is starved for RPG content of any kind. It will most likely become a bargain bin game though.

I know very little about it, but it's a JRPG... so it's all but guaranteed I will buy it. Unfortunately I already have like $700 in preorders over the next two months... so I can't get it day one.

Starting to get suspicious with Amazon. I used to think they took items out of stock only when their confirmed units were sold and didn't relist an item as in stock until they had more confirmed units.

Now, I still think they do that, but every once in a while I wonder if they temporarily put items OOS for a handful of hours to get customers to think this item is flying off the shelves, so they will sell mass quantities once they relist it.

I bet if you had access to Amazon's sales records, you'd see a massive spike in sales when OOS items were relisted. Then people get their items and are like "Yes! Amazon kept going out of stock, but I managed to snag one!" A week later, the item is still in stock.

Two weeks later... still in stock. And so on...

I'd wait until it's $10. It's not as impressive as VC.
Yeah I feel like with all the things I've read about it you are right.

I love card games too damn it. No PS4 at the moment though so it's a Vita or PS3 decision...

And this is also a consideration for me, I just realized I have about $500 worth of preorders coming out in the next couple months. fuck

Most of my $700 is like Japanese niche games. It's funny... I don't even care much for anime. I don't hate it, but I've only really ever gotten into Dragon Ball. I tend to prefer American animation.

However, Japanese games really interest me. Even if they're technically a mess... I can usually find entertainment in them, because at least they're colorful, fun and try to do new things. They're really fun to collect, too.

I'm not a big anime fan either but I've always had a soft spot for JRPGS and other goofy japanese games. I'm going to try and stay strong on natural doctrine until I can get it for $20 or less.

i actually got into japanese games and anime, from watching japanese shows like ultraman and kamen rider, when i was younger.

I'm kind of falling out of love with anime now....I mainly stick to a few genres for new shows each season. Most of the time the manga is better than the anime, so i'll just read them. Just my humble opinion of course. I know anime is adapted from many different things but if those different things are available usually they convey the stories better.

I mainly just watch Romance, some slice of life, some comedy and harem now and then since I expect nothing of harem anime half the time and it's usually fun to watch.

I watched some anime when I was younger... the stuff on Toonami. I still love Dragon Ball. I remember, umm.... Outlaw Star? I liked that pretty good. Then there was Pokemon.

That's pretty much my entire anime resume. I have nothing against it. I just never got into it, too much.

I've always loved video games, though. It was just a natural desire in me to experience all types of gaming that lead me to JRPGs. I bought Lunar 2 Complete and FFIX for the PS1 from Toys 'R Us when I was like 12 or 13. Loved them both to death.

If you bought FFIX when you were 12 I've got a few years on you haha. I'm getting old, I played Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest on the NES.

Final Fantasy IX came out when in what, 1999? I would've been 10 then. I can't recall the exact age I was when I got it. I remember I was in the 7th grade... maybe I was 11. I didn't get it right when it came out.

Anyway, I'm 25.

I believe its a srpg, and having to die on purpose isn't that fun of a game
