Metroid Prime Trilogy Out Now on Wii U

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/metroid-prime-trilogy-out-now-on-wii-u/1100-6424997/
First of all, this is entirely the wrong thread for that (but I don't really mind given that's the kind of info that anyone who has a Wii U should know). Second of all, it's not really a re-release as much as a port, but as much as re-releases can suck this is a fantastic thing considering how ridiculously fucking expensive physical copies of the game are.
Agreed Bobby...bought the Wii U release the day it came out. Ten bucks for Metroid Prime Trilogy is a pretty great deal.

Not so. Dark Souls 1 was my GOTY... for 2014.
mmmmmmmm

In PC-Land - given we have compatibility modes for older versions of Windows + mods can really keep old games still working & alive, re-releases here make more sense when a game's really old + aging; and an old game hasn't been re-released digitally.

That doesn't mean these new re-releases on our PC platform ain't welcome entirely - since I'd rather them be here than not, since they could be worth the investment especially if they're on sale dirt-cheap and/or wind-up in a cheap bundle. The thing is: these HD re-releases often need to be priced more accordingly here on the PC; be free or offer discounts to previous version owners; or do a hell of a lot to entice PC gamers to re-buy them - especially if they're going to be re-released so soon, in some instances.
...unfortunately, the business plan for the HD Remixxers is $$$$$$$$$$$$$

...In unrelated news, Ubisoft is revoking keys bought through G2A, G2Play and similar gray market sites just in case you needed another reason to think using those places was a bad idea. Affected customers are being told to get their money back from the place that sold it to them.
This is a great example of how we don't "own" any of our software. I feel dirty for giving Ubi my $.

physical copies of Metroid Prime Triology for Wii? expensive? (roll eyes) You can pretty much get a used copies from Gamestop (if u are too lazy to hunt on Craiglist and Ebay) and it runs just fine on your Wii U.

I was merely commenting on the overall trend of re-releasing relative new games and reharshing them with high resolution w/o adding anything significant. Why not develop a new entry instead?

It shows the sad state of the game industry (PC included). Developer and publisher are rehashing game and pump it out for quick cash, knowing the fans will eat it up.

Square got me with that FFX upgrade. Loved it. Ate it up. Still want more.

Saw an amazon listing for a PS4 version though. That shit sounds stupid as hell, but since it's incompatible...maybe it makes sense. Maybe.

I don't know how much the copies go for now, but when I was looking for a copy a few years back they were very pricey (over 70 bucks iirc) to get used copies on Ebay. I wound up just getting the gamecube copies of the 1st two games to cut costs. Either way, I doubt you can get the Trilogy anywhere for less than 10 bucks, which is how much it's going for on sale right now, or even 20, which is its price when it's not on sale.

Honestly, I'm okay with re-releases, though. If it's an old game that I really like, I don't mind experiencing it at a higher graphical fidelity, and if it's an old game I've never, played, I'd much rather play it at a higher fidelity and designed for modern systems. I'd like to see more new games too, but you can also look at this in the light that new games are riskier and pricier to make than remakes are, and the remakes can help fund future new games.

Why are we talking about a wii game on a Steam thread if you really want to play in the best resolution you can play on dolphin on the PC

Gamestop got a ton of copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy in late 2013.  It kinda came out of nowhere and dropped the price a lot.  Prior to that they were going for insane prices.  Gamestop still charges $49.99 for used copies which isn't what I would call cheap, although not as ridiculous as they once were.   Naturally I bought my copy when it was first released and I still have not played it.  I really liked the first Metroid Prime on GC too.

Dead Space 3 dlc Awakened is $2.50 (75%) in the Origin client if you click on the Featured Deal thingy. I loved 2, got pretty far in 3 but never finished. hopefully this will make me go back and finish it... someday...

There was something about 2 that didn't click for me. Enjoyed it much less than DS1.

Didn't they just get more and more action gamey as they went on? DS1 was decent but i never even played 2 or 3 because they just looked like 3rd person shooters
DS2 is incredible, with some of the best gorror scenes in recent memory.

Better just to pretend that 3 doesn't exist, though.

DS2 is really more of the same as ds1. It was a bit more actiony, but not noticeably so outside of ammo being seemingly much less scarce in my experience. On paper I should've really liked ds2 since I did like ds1 a lot. can't really explain why I didn't feel that way

I know a lot of people complained about Dead Space 3 base-game w/ its lack of horror elements. I think it works quite well as an action game + I really liked the weapon-building/assembling/upgrading mechanics. As cool as that stuff is - you're tripping over equipment, ammo, and materials in that game. But yeah - DS3 base is not horrific when compared to even DS2; nevermind even comparing to DS1. DS1 is the scariest of the club, IMHO.

DS3: Awakened DLC put some of those horror elements back into the game. Though - some areas, assets, and stuff has been re-used + recycled here. Plus, the DLC actually fills in some of the gaps to one of the looming questions I had, w/ the way DS3 base-game ended...

....even though Awakened also opens up another can of worms and leaves something else + something new hanging, for a cliffhanger. It also has the problem of holding the real ending to this game, more or less.

With the way Awakened ended, EA better greenlight a Dead Space 4.

I'd really like to see EA do a proper Dead Space 4.

yeah the weapon crafting in 3 was actually a pretty great system. i enjoyed all 3 myself with DS2 as the highpoint imo. i only played them on hard so the erosion of horror type gameplay wasn't that pronounced to me.

also i fakeybroed the Awakening dlc and wanted to fight everyone that works for ea after i completed it(recycling assets makes me angry). that said its probably worth 2.50 for closure/supporting dead space 4(right)

Nah, EA would want Visceral Games to do Battlefield Hardline 2 and 3, before Dead Space 4.

Bought. Thanks for the heads up!

So, speaking of PSU issues, I finally got fed up with using these travel adapters while I'm in Korea, and bought a Korean power cord to plug into my PSU. Both my US and KR one are rated at 300V (300/500 for the Korean one). Everything seems fine, I can't quite bring myself to stop worrying about it.

Are my concerns justified, or is this fine? Anyone have any experience with using cords from alternate regions for a PSU?

Thanks in advance!

It's fine. All good PSU's support larger range of voltages. (Due to Active PFC)

Fun fact: the new Finance Minister in Greece is the former chief economist for Valve.

Also fun fact: the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, sends out emails written in Comic Sans MS

It's not even a port. The game just directly launches into wii-mode to play it. It's no different from owning the original disk, outside of being digital. Their actual ports are pretty damn decent, at least for Nintendo. Being able to play classics on the tablet is pretty rad, even if I never use it.

I mean, uh... Damned console peasants! Get the hell outta here!
You do realize that you're never going to live this down, right?

Can I "love" this instead of merely "like"?
It might not be legal, depending on your state & local laws.

Most plug-adapters are really cheap/low-quality... you're better off with proper PSU cord.

Edit: Ah, Korea uses the Southern European plug (also used in N. Africa, and other places).... yeah better off with a proper cord. Adapting from that to American plugs has always been finicky for me.

Buy Murican. Problem solved.
Good luck finding a reasonably priced good quality adapter... you're better off affixing a local PSU cord to an American power strip.

But if you truely want easy, stick to places with American plugs/voltages: Canada, Japan, Mexico...

Figured I'd ask you guys. I just snagged this PC for pretty cheap and was wondering what kind of upgrades I should go about if I wanted to turn it into a decent gaming PC?

Get a graphics card and you should be good for a while.

I'd go with a GTX 960 min. SSD... fater bootup/load-times, not higher FPS, spend the cash on GPU imo.
Not sure I want a fatter bootup. I like my SSDs pretty thin.

Oh and I'm aware of what an SSD does, I was just saying I'll want one in general.

I really don't like that the GTX 960 is currently only sold in a 2GB VRAM card flavor.

Would be nice to see them offer up a 4GB VRAM flavor variation for the 960 - you know, one that actually is fully utilizing high-end channels.

Some of these really newer high-end games are recommending heavy amounts of GB for VRAM.

ACU recommends 3GB VRAM.

Some games want to recommend 4GB of VRAM - such as Ryse & The Evil Within.

We won't even get into the crazy setting Shadow of Mordor wants for Ultra (6 GB VRAM)!

Even then, the GF 970 issue with 3.5 GB on a 256-bit channel with the other 0.5 GB stuck on a 32-bit channel needs to be somehow resolved.

It was a recommendation for someone considering a GTX 750 Ti... an entry-level low-power but capable card for dell-box upgrades and budget constrained shoppers. Not a recommendation for you.

Fair enough. You make some good points.

Do you think a higher end vid-card (i.e. 3GB VRAM or more) would bottleneck his i5 processor?

I'm curious - how cheap?

Since you're with Win 8.1...if you don't like Metro UI/Modern UI - I'd get StartMenu8.

Hell, depending on how you feel on Win 8.1 and on how Win 10 turns out - you might even want to look into the free upgrade to Win 10.

I'm recommend a better video card. Integrated ain't going to cut it, running any sort of modern PC games ever (it's unfortunately always been this way) - especially in the AAA arena. Depending on how high you want the settings to go + what games you're trying to run - you should look into cards going over 2GB VRAM from either NVidia or AMD.

Me, I personally would aim for 3-4GB VRAM w/ the way these new games are going w/ stiff requirements w/ the next-gen consoles here pushing out specs much higher for us PC gamer - but, you know, that's just me; and that's where I likely will go when I do my next upgrade.

Also, some of the newer games are starting to recommend or (even worse) flat-out require i7's. Wolf: TNO requires a i7 for even its minimum.

What's your PSU? Make sure it's not some awful mega-cheap one that'll fry your system.

No. And VRAM use does does not correlate with CPU load.

Also remember that not everyone plays bad AAA console ports. =p

Also someone shoehorning a GPU into an existing machine without a GPU is power-limited unless they upgrade their PSU.... it's why cards like the GTX 750 Ti are quite popular.

Is this a pre-built PC and what PSU (Power Supply Unit) do you have? If this is a pre-built (Dell, HP etc.) then you can probably just toss in a 750 Ti. I have a Dell with a 300W psu with only 18A (18 Amps, 11 + 7 I think) and I have a 750 Ti which works great and stays cool.

If you have a pre-built (HP, Dell, etc.) you can also upgrade the PSU and get a better card, but be careful about heat and airflow. For instance, my Dell case has no case fans, so make sure you get a cool-running card if your case doesn't have good airflow. Basically, get Nvidia, do not get AMD.

If you don't have a pre-built, or have a better PSU, I would definitely recommend getting a better card though.
