Thanks! I snagged/spodered these.

And how do you join a friends game? The 10 minute restriction they added is retarded.

Edit: Nevermind, I just made a new game on my alt account then joined it.

Dunno why anyone would think it's a good idea to put all your passwords in some centralized database.  Live off the grid: my passwords are all in an index card in my desk and a backup one secured at an undisclosed location.

I bet it would've happened without a Kickstarter. They don't need the funding.. it's more of a publicity stunt than anything.
No; despite positive reviews, the Shenmue series was a financial loss for Sega. Suzuki spent most of his money just acquiring back the rights from the publisher. Without crowdfunding, there's no way a project the size of Shenmue 3 could happen.

Agreed, people need to remember that the first Shenmue had a development cost of around $70 million (in 1999)
To be clear, I'm not saying there won't be any outside investment. Just that it's too risky of a property for an investor to fund the development without using the Kickstarter campaign to make sure they have enough potential buyers.

How do you fit them all on an index card, and what if someone got ahold of it or you lost it/spilled Mountain Dew on it?

I'm not seeing any info about that anywhere, can you link me to it? Closest I can find is this which dates back to Sept 2014 which states he was trying to raise enough money for Sega to allow him to work on Shenmue 3. Unless something changed very recently, it looks like Sega owns it.

I'm happy we're seeing Shenmue III but with the cost of the first Shenmue being around 70 million how likely is it that we'll actually see the 3rd game be made? Is anyone else as concerned as I am or am I just being paranoid?

Here's when the trademark was cancelled and Sega declined to renew. Also, if Sega still had any rights to the Shenmue name, they would be all over this Kickstarter campaign, both on the site and promoting it externally.

I don't think that's proof though. This was in the article I linked to, which is a lot more recent..

Yu Suzuki : Fans from all around the world have kept providing me support and I can't thank them enough. About Shenmue, Sega is not a problem at all. For Shenmue III, we need to define a specific budget and if I can gather enough for it, Sega will allow me to do it.

Things obviously changed since that article was published or he misspoke. Again, if Sega had any ownership of the property, the Kickstarter campaign would be a joint venture. They would put their name on it, and get the word out, because it would make them money, both during the campaign and after. But I doubt that Sega has the millions of dollars needed to fund a project like this, especially after how poorly it worked out for them last time.

Suzuki owning the rights to his own game is why this project can be called "Shenmue 3", and Iga's can't be called "Castlevania".

Edit:

SEGA has officially given us the rights to use the "Shenmue" license.

I have maybe... two dozen important passwords at most. How many wacky websites do you guys register at? Also the card is in one of those plastic sleeves. Someone would have to break into my house and rummage through my desk to get it. If that happens I have bigger problems than losing my internet passwords.

Did anyone else notice this? I about peed myself trying to see if Dragon Age 2 was re-listed on Steam.

Would be nice to see DA2 get re-listed.

Given Steam's rule (all content must come to Steam) - that would mean that we'd actually have to have a DA2: Complete Edition on there or (more likely) all of the DLC would have to also be sold on DA2 Steam Page,

The way they stated it is really weird, but if you check this part of the FAQ, it does seem that SEGA owns Shenmue and gave them permission to use the license for the Kickstarter and Shenmue 3.

Q: Are there plans for the HD versions of Shenmue 1 & 2?
A: The property rights for Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 belong to SEGA, so we are not in a position to comment on that.

y u leave out Sony?
Sony needed proof there was demand. They got their proof: 26000 people have given more than $29 just to get a copy of the game. It got more than two million in less than a day.

Sega knew there was demand but was too busy churning out crappy Sonic sequels to care.

I enjoyed the sonic aliens in alien isolation and the sonic DLC for company of heroes 2!

Lets see if we can get sonic boom on greenlight! I really want it on steam!

Lol at people going into multiple threads to complain about the price of a product that they don't want.
Oh hey...console scrub what is up.

And yes, I did want one. I even heard about it months ago and was excited for it. You don't understand how manufacturing works. So go back to your bridge troll.

Lol "console scrub"

I understand how manufacturing works. I also understand how business works. You make varying profit margins on different products. Niche products like this command a higher profit margin because the market is smaller for them and there are very few (and higher priced) competitors on the market. Also the the production runs will be smaller due to lower demand which means costs WILL be higher.
