There really is no need to act the way you are. its good for you that you were able to take advantage of it and since you are no where near where I live it doesn't affect me at all but the fact remains that what he is doing is against policy and if a DM ever found out he was doing this he could get fired for it.

I do find it amusing that you find this as "all hell breaking loose"

I guess it's a delicate balancing act to keep enough of these out to have the awareness up but not enough to supply the demand.

The gamecube adaptors have been easily found for the last few months so thats a pretty poor example.

Walmart in general has a very crappy selection of video game stuff anyways. Since they beginning they never really carried amiibo.

 
Just got done talking with a Gamestop guy that's usually pretty good.  Each store in the district will have available amounts posted in the window on Friday night.  He had no info regarding any additional SKUs in the system besides the 3-pack.  He also said that just the 3-pack is exclusive to Gamestop at launch and that Game & Watch, Duck Hunt, and R.O.B. will be available for sale from other retailers as individual figures later in the year around November/December.

Which as a "friend", I would do for him as well. I'm sorry you have no one to help you out, but I'm not sorry for getting a benefit from someone I've known for years. He is the only reason I still even deal with GS, as he has always treated me well, and I have done the same for him by shopping at his store when I need stuff from GS(and I have 10 shops closer than his), and I also always do the customer surveys on the receipt, which is also a big deal for his store.

I don't know what company policy you are referring to, but it's not the one I've been told about. I haven't seen any GS policies firsthand but I've been told, several times, that this behavior is not allowed.

I mean FFS I am good friends with a manager at Best Buy but I know if she got caught holding anything for me that I didn't pre-order via normal means she would be fired without a 2nd thought. But she knows the difference between right and wrong and wouldn't do that for me anyways.

I just always find it amusing, that when someone gets a benefit that others don't, everyone try's to state hows it's wrong, or "unfair". Saying whats policy, and what isn't. I just posted info in regards to the release info I had to help others, and simply stated a favor I got from a friend, so I don't have to wait in line, and then everyone has a opinion on what's right and what's wrong.

So, if anyone here had a friend or relative at retail who could get them a system, or game, or whatever at launch, instead of waiting in line for hours or days, you wouldn't do it? Yeah, that's what I thought. As I stated before, his store will probably have qty well past the morning line, so where's the issue? Just trolls wanting to start shit for no good reason.

If its my friend or relative nah I personally wouldn't want to do anything that might make him lose his job.

Also its not an opinion of whats right and wrong. It's a fact its wrong because Gamestop Policy states it is.

Except for when you said it was company policy that employees could buy for themselves before customers. I think that caused reactions. (But it wasn't a big deal. Most of us should know by now that some places do what they want.)

Nintendo has specifically said these three will not be available separately.

I managed a Babbage's (later converted to GameStop) for 7 years and it was always against policy for employees to buy any limited products before the customers. We often had to wait until after closing to ring up our purchases.

I didn't say "pre-orders" because back then pre-orders dictated the amount of product and not the other way around.

Even still it didn't stop unscrupulous employees from hiding limited stock in the backroom until close.
 
Time to go make friends with all retail managers. Might go start on Penny Lane heard there is a barber who shows photographs of all the heads he's had the pleasure to know, maybe he will want to see my amiibo photos?

I agree. I would have liked to see the boxes form an NES, and then maybe have a G&W with the names written inside it in the corner. I get they were going for likeness of the three individual boxes, but then they should have just had these individually in the first place...

Not everyone's the same you know...I had a friend who worked at both Target & Tru, and another friend who worked at GS. While I would ask them to verify information I'd hear, I never asked either to hold anything for me. I waited in line at NWS for 16 hours instead of sleeping in and asking one of my friends to secure me a MM N3DS XL. That's me though.
 
So is the NA market not getting the alternative Super Mario 30th Anniversary "alt color" figure?
They only show the one in the new release schedule.

I believe I saw an article that'll it'll be released later this year.
Also, that picture States the 3 pack characters will NOT be available individually and only in the three pack. Who knows what's going on anymore.

The pic says "figures only available in 3-pack.  not sold seperately" under the "Available on the 25th of September 2015" headline.  I wouldn't take that to mean they'll never be sold as individuals.  Perhaps, perhaps not.   Things change on a month-to-month basis.  They make this stuff up as they go along and can do whatever they want.  The picture doesn't even mention the Gamestop exclusivity, or any other retailer availability. 

All it means is they will only be sold as a 3-pack at launch.

They might make up release dates as they go along but when have they gone back on anything drastic like this? You don't see the squid amiibo being sold individually.

Regardless, the person you spoke to at GameStop speculated/lied that they will be available individually by the end of the year. If you want one of these amiibo, you should either import or buy the triple pack.
 
Finally received my Amazon.fr order in today. Got worried when the USPS lady dropped off a mangled box that looked like it's seen better transit days. Aside from some bent corners, it was packed decently with added packaging paper to cushion the amiibos on top. The packaging for Olimar was a little dented  on the side but no damage to the amiibo itself.

Was expecting worse when buying overseas. Really it seems like a waste to do this unless you plan to open them up - which I plan to with these.

Rules are meant to be followed. You and your friend are breaking them. And like I said I have a friend who runs the local BB and I don't take advantage (beyond listening to her tales of woe and posting them here), so yes, some people have a moral compass.

I will probably pick up Dr Mario for my sister since we played the old NES version a lot as kids. Already have ZSS on order from AmiAmi (will ship with Figma Lucina... please don't delay again). May pick up Ganondorf to round out my Zelda series of Amiibo.

First let me be clear, I did not ask him to break any rules or due anything illegal. I didn't even ask, he offered the favor. He has worked for GS many years(probably 10 years or close to it), and is one of the better managers they have in regards to district numbers, customer service, and overall GS satisfaction. He is highly regarded from his district manager, and would in no way risk his job to help me over a cheap Amiibo set. The same way no one here knows me personally, no one knows him personally either. Why all the judgments?

He stated that if any employees wanted this, he would do it before the store opened, and that he personally didn't want this set. He offered me the opportunity to reserve one as a favor. I assumed it was policy and OK to do so. I worked at GS ages ago, and if I wanted something, I asked the manager or district manager, and they would say OK or not. There was no HUGE issues back then, as hysteria wasn't the order of the day as it is now.

I'm happy there are noble folks who want to stand in line for hours or days, but I was offered a chance to skip that head ache, and I graciously accepted it. My Friends isn't stealing anything, and if 10-15 people line up at his store, and he gets 20-30 units, no harm, no foul.

People who plan on importing the R.O.B. should also pay attention to the different colors used. I know the Famicom version was white and red instead of the grey we received here. I believe the UK version is also grey?
I personally want a few of each.

Sure, but what happens when 30 people line up and they only have 25 units available for preorder because you and the rest of this guy's employees decided you get a benefit the rest of the world doesn't simply because your friend wants to disregard policy and treat you in a preferential way? Personally, I have many friends who could grant me all sorts of privileges well beyond jumping the line to preorder Amiibos, but never in a million years would I ask them to do so, nor would I accept if they offered. It's hard enough for everyone trying to collect or buy them for their kids without people flaunting the rules simply to help their "friends". Would you have been happy if the local Best Buy manager (who I would assume you aren't friends with) or the local Target manager did the same thing for their employees and friends with Dark Pit or Jigglypuff? Personally, I don't mind being on the same footing with everyone and if I miss one, I miss one. I do, however, find it infuriating when someone decides that they are going to change the rules simply because it benefits their friends.

 
Just to be equally clear, I really only had a problem with that part of your post that I quoted, where you assumed everyone would jump at this chance to skip a line & ask their friend for a favor.
Other than that, I completely get where your coming from. I don't agree with it, but I get it & am perfectly willing to look the other way because I know this kind of stuff happens all the time.

I just received the same package from Amazon.fr my Olimar had a crease at the top just under the peg hook. Perhaps some of these were dented before being placed in the shipping box. My shipping box also looked like yours, a few dents and creases but for an out of box collector I'm happy for the price I paid.

I just got a call from a manager of my local gamestop about the Saturday event. Very nice of him, he wanted to let me know about the 3 pack preorder deal. he told me store opens at 9am, regardless if you are a PRO member or not.
 
He told me people start lining up around 6-7 AM, and he won't know the amount available until Friday PM.
