1Quest. Looks like it's been bundled a lot and i still don't have it. I usually don't bother checking, but since I was reading the thread at the time I figured why not.

Apparently I got into the Fortnite alpha.

I'm under NDA, so not even sure I could tell you as much as I already have.

16 games on Uplay and level 31 for me.  80 XP away from next level.

Edit: 21 games, it counts my console stuff too.

You aint missing much.

Anyone know what the 3rd party DRM thing is on Storm Coast Legends? I was throwing the game on my wishlist in order to watch for a sale when i noticed it requires some 3rd party EULA or something. I usually skip games with extra DRM BS on them

You just have to agree to the end user license agreement to play the game. You can click it and read it to see if there's anything you find you don't agree with before purchasing.

Just made me agree and to sign up on the website. Just finished laying for the night right before I read ya post. 5th level Human Ranger btw

so basicallly, u spoder some and fakeybro the rest?
Yep. 🐛🐜🐝

Also, just tried it out on ARK and it runs much better than it did before. Didn't an hour playing and built a house thanks to the help of Bruti and a Canadian Drabe.

Also, I currently have 8gb of 1600kHz ddr3, would there be any noticeable difference if I upgraded to 16gb of the same or 8gb of 1866?

I hear the difference with the 1866 is negligible and that 16 is overkill?

16GB is overkill this year. Next year, it will be sufficient

I was searching for answer last month, upgraded my rig to 16GB from 8GB and notice smoother performance. Wouldn't recommend to go beyond 16Gb for gaming though

Last year (way before I did the 4GB VRAM upgrade), I only had 8GB of RAM and X Rebirth was chugging away w/ my 1 GB VRAM 560 Ti. Jumping to 16GB really made a hell of a difference alone for X Rebirth.

Yes! Finally done with my new pc for now (I just ordered a cheap graphics card until after the holidays). Can finally play again. Now to decide what to start with.

Erm.....blablabla9604GBblablabla.  Sorry, should have thought about that before I called it cheap.  It's definitely a nice step up from that old 7770 I was using in my prebuilt before.

Nice @ 960 4GB. :)

At 1080p, that card currently happens anything I throw at it on High to Ultra (depends on the game).

Yeah I'm about to test at 1080p.  Someone yoinked my dvi cable so last night while I was setting up I had to use a horrible old monitor.  It wasn't even 720p.  Picked one up though so now I'm going to put some games through their paces.

Yeah, I was thinking it was overkill. It was just super cheap so I thought I would ask. I can get 8GB of 1866 for $25 or 16GB of 1600 for $48. But I also don't want to waste money just because something is a good deal.

FWIW, I was going to do more than 8GB RAM but when I really dug into it everything I read by those who seemed to be in the know (and didn't just want it for the numbers and epeen) said that more than 8GB for gaming is overkill. Remember, most of our high end games are designed around console hardware.

I went with 8GB system RAM when I built my rig a couple of years ago and I haven't had any issues even running higher end games with everything cranked up.

I'm curious - did any gamers who played SW: Battlefield Open Beta run the game w/ the min. of 8 GB RAM?

Probably also would help to know CPU + GPU b/c that stuff likely would be a major factor.

I played it with 8GB and I have a FX6300 CPU at the time and a AMD 6xxx GPU. Ran fine.

I went with 16 on the new build, but 8 seemed to work well with the games I was playing before.  I only decided on 16 because I sometimes tool around with more RAM intensive programs than games and they would chug a bit on the old computer.

You might've just answered your question for titles on the market now and ultra-soon.

Were you happy w/ how the game looked for you at the settings you had it at?

Other games I'd suggest you run on it, if you have them, include - Crysis 3; AC Unity; The Evil Within; Witcher 3; Watch Dogs.

If you ain't tried Dying Light Demo, check that out - that's another one worth testing out.

I played Dying Light already with those same specs and ran fine for me.

I think I will pass on the memory. My next order of business will be finding a cheap second monitor.

Curious:

If you don't mind me asking...

What did you run at normally for most of your newer games like SW: BF Open Beta or Dying Light? 720p? 900p? 1080p?

What are the settings on - Medium? High?

Low on 900p I think. (is 1440 x 900 900p?)

Dying Light might have been medium. I think that one runs pretty well.

Ran it on ultra at 1080p/60fps

i7 4770k @ stock
8gb ram
AMD 7970 ghz edition

Close. 1600x900 is considered 900p.

Sounds like you doing okay - as long as you're fine w/ that res (1440x900), how it runs & those settings you had it on there.

That's the max my monitor goes so it works for me :)
If you're fine with it - that's really all that matters, right? :)

If you really at some point feel you want + need 16GB RAM, you could always wait + see what kind of deals Black Friday beholds at NewEgg, TigerDirect, or wherever. Or hell, just hold-out longer, if the deals ain't to your liking.

RAM is dirt cheap right now. Once manufacturers start pumping out DDR4, the cheap DDR3 supply will lessen and prices will rise.

Upgrade now, overkill or not. Just bumped mine up to 24GB while my original 8GB was being rma'd. That new 16 only cost $5 more than the 8GB kit was six months ago.

When I was doing my research there were plenty of people going MOAR IS BETTER! SAIL! CHEEP! BAI NAO!! but I wasn't able to find any games that could significantly benefit from over 8GB of system RAM. Video editing, 3D rendering, photo editing etc programs sure. People keep saying BUT IT'S FUTUREPROOF but it's been two years since I built my rig and I've still not run into anything that needed more than 8GB of RAM.

I did buy a single 8 stick so I could upgrade if I wanted to but I just haven't found a good reason to. It's not a Poopees bundle and doesn't give a +1 on Steam so I'm not just going to buy something I don't want or need just because.

IMO, as long as games are being designed around consoles and the majority of PC users (not just high end gamer enthusiasts) have 8GB or less of system RAM there just aren't going to be the games that need more than that. People were proclaiming two years ago when I went looking there would be such games and I just haven't been seeing them.

If you do other things that use RAM by all means. Or if it's really driving you insane to not have the higher number or pass on a sale or whatever then do what you think is best. I just don't see the practicality of it though.

I played it with 8 gigs and the game was shitty. Would more RAM make the game better? Would it make all games better? Asking for a friend.

That card (7950 3GB, btw, not 7970) worked on High or Very/Ultra at 1680x1050 on games up through Witcher 3 when I replaced it. Just to give you some benchmark.

ARK is optimized like absolute shit so you can expect hangups and FPS drops and object pop-in no matter what system you're using. You're welcome to the fruits of Chateu de Brawny Gents but I also get the allure of manly hewing your own way for a bit. If you need some non-game breaking hide armor or a metal axe though, feel free to ask.

Or, like 95% of the folks, you'll never play again :whistle2:x

I don't think any games would benefit from 8GB individually but it's nice to have plenty of RAM for when you're running other stuff (like memory-eater Firefox) in the background. Still, 8GB is a comfortable number to be at.
