Humble Bundle Thread

all of you guys can seriously tell the differences b/w MP3 and FLAC? how many mechanical keyboards must I forgo in order to "get gud" like ya'all?
In my case it's mostly me wanting the music in its most unaltered form possible. Would you rather have a copy of an album that is closer to what the original audio actually was, or something that's more like a degraded photocopy? You can still see most of the details but it's kinda blurry.

320kbps MP3 and FLAC have very little noticeable differences to most people. I might notice some slightly different audio, depending on the album. The differences are way more noticeable when listening to something encoded in 96 to 128kbps MP3.

Eh.

Not me, Spoder and me had this talk today, but I had too many planes land on my head... Maybe when I was younger I could have told you the difference.

Also, I've been married for a long time, and that affects hearing also...

If you want unaltered music you get it straight from the source at a live concert like the peasants used to do in the olde days.
In theory, but in this case, that would mean hiring his own studio musicians, which probably aren't THAT cheap, even in the land of fog and fish-n-chips. Probably not the best plan for a cheapass.

I think more testing is required for AAA win10 store games so take the below information with a grain of salt. This was found out from testing the new tomb raider win10 store version. If these limitations are true, I would only buy the win10 store exclusive games.

"To begin with, games purchased through Windows Store are built on Microsoft's Universal Apps Platform, and not the conventional desktop-based executable. The game is essentially a "modern UI" app, and not a conventional Windows application. This has great limitations - no NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFire support; no real fullscreen mode (just borderless windowed mode or pseudo-fullscreen); and V-sync being always-on. Other major downsides of UAP apps include no support for modding, and mouse macros. What's more, since UAP apps don't have *.exe extensions, you can't add them to Steam, and so no Steam Controller support. The Store in itself doesn't have a good refund policy along the lines of Steam and Origin limited full-refund policies; and you'll never be able to play your games on Windows versions older than Windows 10."

No steam key for Forced either.  Garbage additions.  At least I can relive my childhood with x-wing and tie fighter!  Just need a joystick...

Edit: Scratch that you do get a steam key for Forced: Slightly Better Edition.  It just doesn't indicate it on the bundle page.

I actually received a Steam key for FORCED: Slightly Better Deluxe Edition, so the humble page is incorrect.

Soundtrack related, Duet includes both FLAC/MP3, Forced only includes MP3.

EDIT: Double ninja'd by indef and Archbishopthedoge.

Forced is a coop game. It is a bit like diablo... But with a lot of puzzles. I had a lot of fun with it playing with friends. You can play it solo too... But it is boring that way

It primarily depends on the bitrate of the MP3. Once you start to get above 256kbps, the difference becomes much less discernible. The type of music can also play a role. When I have my Audio-Technica M50x or Sennheiser HD 598 headphones paired with a high-quality player I can sometimes notice the difference between 320kbps and FLAC.

Glad I went full cheap and tremored Sunless Sea, Trine 3 and Doorkickers. $1 tier for me.
Yeah, it was better to go the tremor route for this bundle if you have coins. I managed to get Trine 3 and Doorkickers for 75 cents each, and grabbed Heartbreak/Sunless Sea for 895 coins each

Yeah, but you had to watch 8321 "I eat doll hair pussy" videos...so that makes me the WINNAR!!!!!

Hm. A lot of really ancient stuff in the Star Wars bundle. Any speculation on the BTA unlocks?

Not even sure if I'm in for a $1 on this. I might play Rebellion and I might not. I'm not sure I see myself playing the archaic space combat games either. For what it's worth, it looks like the Balance of Power stuff actually does include single-player, so the Humble page may be wrong about this too. I have a MysterD copy of Galactic Battlegrounds, which, for anyone who doesn't know, is an RTS that uses a reskinned Age of Empires II engine (which, to be honest, was a bad idea, because that engine is decent for showing a guy shooting tiny arrows at another guy, but looks really late '70s, early '80s-cheesy when you have a guy shooting a laser at another guy).

I've played the KOTOR games, as has everyone here over the age of 15. They were great but I'm not going to play them again. The Empire at War pack is probably the best Star Wars strategy game I've played (no surprise as it's a Petroglyph game), but having played it, I wouldn't go back to it either.

And that leaves a bunch of Star Wars LEGO games, and I'd have to be way more of a Star Wars nerd than I am to play those.

What the hell are you guys doing to get multiple 900 Tremor coin games?

It's a huge pain in the ass there to get coins anymore. Maybe they are hoping people will buy them.

I was considering getting Else Heart Break too, but I've got plenty adventure games I'd never even install. Probably the newest monthly will supply me with another one or two.

X-Wing is one amazing blast from the past for me. I remember when that came out (94) and I was pissed when it ran like shit on my piece of crap Tandy. About 2 years later I got a new PC and the first thing I did was install it and I was so happy lol. It blew my mind at the time.

I'm a bit with warren, I dunno how much Ill actually play the old games, but I'll eventually grab it either via a split or will penny in at some point. I most certainly will try X-Wing again just for the hell of it as I loved it so much back then.

I fakeyed it after it came out (shut up). It's not bad. It's definitely different and doesn't so much play like your typical adventure game. It kind of looks like a more colorful funky version of The Sims or something visually. Then you wander around the town, talk to various people and eventually end up messing around with computer terminals and lite code and such.

It's quirky. I liked it. *shrug*

I'm in for the $1 tier for a +4 in nostalgia. None of those games were included in some of the Star Wars franchise bundles. Same with TIE Fighter and X-Wing Special Editions, but that BTA tier is too much and I don't need the Knights of the Old Republic games or whatever Star Wars games are added next week.

Yes, it's a huge pain in the ass lately. Furtunately they had a lot Armored Warfare offers duing last two weeks which gave 300-1000 coins for 15min of tutorial play. Grabbed like 3-4k coins overall, so it was more than enough to get those BTA games.

Oh, come on... I don't need another copy of the KOTR games.
I kinda do need another copy. My wife and son have been on a big Star Wars geek kick--lots of Clone Wars and Rebels plus books and, in her case, Fanfic. She'd probably like to play KOTOR and my son has said he would, though he needs to be a much better reader and get a bit older.

Most reviews were mixed to negative on SW: Rebellion when it came out, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Rebellion is a dream come true for someone who wants to be immersed in the SW galaxy and have total control. It's quite heavy on the resource management, and the 3D battles are iffy (the mechanics are really good, being able to pause the battle and issue orders to each ship, but the graphics and interface are clunky). There was just something so cool about being able to send familiar SW characters on espionage or sabotage missions. :p

Do the ancient star wars games actually run on win 7/10 or am I going to have to use a virtual machine to play them?
These are probably the GOG versions, which means they should run okay on a modern machine.

Well, you can also do this in Empire at War, but the missions are all scripted.

One other thing about that game: it was weirdly and I can only imagine deliberately heavily-imbalanced. Play the Rebellion campaign and it's a slog as you nibble away at insurmountable odds. Play the Empire campaign and crush your enemies and see them driven before you.
