Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

The only problem I had with the N64 controller was for one game. Star Wars Shadows of The Empire and that's just because it was almost impossible to do the debug mode cheat with one person. Other than that had no issues with it.

Now that NX controller looks ungodly bad. I could deal with the design, but the second they talk about touchsceen doing most of the work, just no. I have never played a touchscreen game and thought to my self this was ok except for puzzle games and games where you tap a building.

I also love how Capcom UK posted 12 hours ago there will be more info shortly about the March update for SV5. It's March 23rd and they don't even have a release date. I knew Street Fighter V was a trainwreck now I am just sitting back laughing at how badly a trainwreck this is.

I never had any issues with the N64 controller, although it was a bit on the larger side, I always found it worked well. Play Sin & Punishment with it, and you'll see how poetic it really was. That game and that controller are a perfect match.
same outside the stick being in the middle, tearing the flesh off hands and breaking easily it was a great controller. And even if it was too big you could always get a smaller one as they have always marketed smaller versions.

Noone panic, but my Miku Project Diva X Game & Accessory VITA Pouch just shipped!

That reminds me, did the version with the steelbook ever go up on a site people not in Japan could order from?
I don't believe so. The only choices we had were: The lanyard from Ami, The cleaning cloth from CDJ (the one I went with) & the worst most boring tapestry design from Nin-Nin.

Which was like $90 shipped...

That's a bummer. I'm likely going to wait for the US release like I did with PDF2nd. Gotta show Sega the west is interested in Miku.

And here I am.
I feel you.

That has to be the monst uncomfortable controller ever to be made. Why can't Nintendo just make regular looking controllers like everyone else?!
Nintendo has *never* made "regular controllers", just the controller they once made *became* regular. The NES controller was a pretty radical departure from the standard Joystick and button control of Atari and arcades. The shoulder buttons of the SNES were also a big change. The N64, GC, Wii and WiiU all attempted to do something a little different (though admittely the GC controller was most like its predecessors/contemporaries). We'll see if any of this comes to fruition.

Of course, I wasn't being too serious about the 64 controller. Though one must admit, if someone who's never played it looked at the controller they would totally be bewildered. I do remember something about the camera being difficult to control on Mario 64 since it was on the joystick while you controlled Mario with the D-Pad.

When they first revealed the WiiU tablet controller, everyone thought it would be really awkward and uncomfortable to hold that. Yet it sounds like it ended up being not too bad. Of course, this all still sounds like a bad idea with Nintendo's latest console.

I have to agree, "N" has always innovated in regards to their controllers. Sadly, in recent years, although they have been "different", I wouldn't say they have innovated much. Although I'm sure they would say different. LOL

With every new try, they seem to be forcing it at this point, and should just do what Sony and MS have decided to do, and just make the best standard controller they can. You get to a point where everything has been done, or at least that is the way it appears, but "N" just flat out refuses to say nothing more can be done.

I applaud the flat out determination to try to lead new paths forward, but when is enough, enough? I think we have all been playing long enough to see what works, and what doesn't, sadly when they get in their minds they think something is working, they will ram it down the consumers throat if they think so or not(cart over CD, standard over HD TV, offline over online, the list goes on and on).

I don't think they have ever heard of focus groups, as they never seem to mention them, and there is no way half the dumb **** they do would happen if any outside source ever tested half their whims.

Final Fantasy XV Director On Main Story Length, Frame Rate, Airship, Cactuar, And More

[customspoiler='Full List']
Cactuars will make an appearance. They’re powerful opponents that will be able to dodge Shift Breaks.

Square Enix will have plenty of surprises for their event on March 31st, and to expect a trailer in Japanese as well.

The father of Final Fantasy in Hironobu Sakaguchi called out Tabata saying “Let me tell you my impression on the Final Fantasy XV demo.” While Tabata can’t say what they talked about, he mentions with a laugh that Sakaguchi had a whole lot to say.

A playable demo will be properly shown at the event.

As for the play time, at first Square Enix estimated that it would take about 40 hours to clear the main scenario, but this has since then been bumped up to 50 hours. They’re currently not at the final stages of balancing out the game, but making optimal balances. They say that the game has more volume than they thought it would.

As for the Airship, it has been decided from long ago on how they would introduce it into the game. It’s something that would have you say “this is the kind of Airship that should be in Final Fantasy XV.”

Maintaining a frame rate of 30fps is their objective. This has not been completely optimized as of yet, as there are times where it breaks 30. They will continue making adjustments until the last minute before the game goes gold. If they’re unable to fixate on the 30fps, they will do something different.

As for the game’s resolution, it’ll be revealed at the release event on March 31st.

As for a PS4 bundle version, Square Enix is working on making it happen.

Full Patch Notes - Incidentally, we also learn that the game instantly sold out at many Japanese stores, as mentioned by the official Twitter account of the game.

So they added a 10 hour CG?

It's actually a bit startling to learn that an enormous open world RPG is only 50 hours in length.  That's worries me.  You're going to spend a good amount of that time just running around.

It's only $5 more for the PS4 version

http://www.ricedigital.co.uk/store/gal-gun-double-peace-ps4-us-version-mr-happiness-collectors-edition#reviews

It's a little more than I would like but it does loon pretty good. I just wish they would list size information, particularly for the "screen cleaner" and the wall scroll.

Anyone know if there are major differences between it on PS4 and Vita? I think I'd prefer it on Vita but if the PS4 version is noticeably better for just $5 more, I might go for that one instead.

It annoys me that idiots don't get the laugh scene was awkward on purpose. Ignoring that you don't even have to SEE the laugh scene as its optional and obvious that the whistle scene is canon considering that happens at the end of the game and the start of x-2 If I recall.

Found the article I was looking for:

http://gematsu.com/2015/06/gal-gun-double-peace-ps4-ps-vita-differences-outlined

Basically no difference except PS4 version looks 'nicer', Vita version's Doki Doki mode has touchscreen support, and most interestingly:

"The PlayStation 4 version features an exclusive “Mama Kita Gamen” (“Mom’s Arrived Screen”), which makes the game turn into an RPG to keep players from looking indecent if someone enters the room."

^amazing

I hear the PS4 has a better FPS(especially when there's a lot of girls on screen) and much faster load times.
