Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

They also show a new male character in the CE image but block his face. Makes for an equal ratio of guys and girls.

It's going to be super hard, but I'm waiting on Persona 5. After FES and Golden we are seeing a pattern of a more complete version of Persona games coming out down the line. I don't have time or desire to play a 100hr JRPG twice.

could be either gender considering not all girls wear girl uniforms. but yeah rounds out the party to 8 playable characters in theory. Possible comp girl becomes playable and he replaces her since typically one announcer later is a party member.

same plus I'm already persona'd out. I played p3 p4 and p3p so I am good for a long while. If I do get the desire to play one again I p4 vita in my backlog. Only way I'll jump is if we get some really good items in a le/ce. I'd be down for a cool pair of headphones.

Can't remember the last time I was actually this excited for a video game.

P4 was life changing, please let me spend this money I specifically saved for P5 and let me preorder some LE/CE god damn it.

P3 for me was the one that really opened my eyes (also played P2 the one that was localized). I didn't like P4 as much honestly. Still was a very good game. More than excited for this one though.

I want to believe. I loved Star Ocean 1 and 2 a lot and 3 a somewhat good amount though I disliked the battle and invention system. I will likely play immediately....but I want to believe. I just don't like to see a series I loved quite a bit go to the dumps....

Also Pocket Card Jockey heck yes! I love these casual games to play to wind down the day when I read comics/books and just try to sleep on time, though that never works haha.

I am not going to wait a few more years to play the "complete" version of Persona 5 (if that ever happens) after waiting about 8ish years for the 5th numbered game to come out.

I didnt play JRPGs (I'm guessing Zelda doesnt count), but bought P3 on a lark, mainly to get the artbook edition. I thought it was a very interesting game, though the dungeon crawling was my least favorite part. Still, I was really into it, so much so, that when ppl, like the GiantBomb Crew, advocated for P4 over P3, I scoffed loudly. Somehow though, I petered out on P3, possibly because of it being home-bound on the PS2.

Several years later, I got a Vita and P4G. In every respect, I thought it was a better game. I've played through it at least 4 times, something I rarely do in action games and almost never do in story games. I eventually went back and played through all of P3P, it's damn fine, but not up to P4G. I think, for me, P4G seems a little more grounded. I mean, in P3, the adults are aware of the threat of shadows, but they still entrust children to handle it. At least in P4G, it's set up as being so absurd that the grown-ups wouldnt believe the kids and *thats* why they are fighting.

In either case, Fuuka is still my favorite girl of both games.:)

She's playable, there's a scene with her wearing like a thiefs battle suit which has goggles on it.

Also Marie best grill for obvious reasons.

A New Star Ocean and Persona game is amazing for me...easily two of my favorite JRPG series. There is also that FFXV, but I haven't been a fanboy since FFIX likely.

They used to be one of my favorites. I blindly bought just about everything they put out since P3FES, but no dual audio, charging more for certain games just because, and now this whole FE thing is such a shitty look for them.

Persona 5 looks like it's going to be truly special, I just hope they don't find some way to ruin it.

 
I always liked Fuuka myself, but I've always like more somewhat quieter shy women? For Persona 4 I would like to say I think Yukiko is the most attractive but I found myself drawn to Rise more.

 
I liked Mitsuru! Very assertive and she was a butt kicker. I wont throw down any spoilers, but even though some things happened with the fam, she was still awesome.

adults cannot use personas thus why they can only sit on their hands and provide support. plus the majority of the people originally involved that made the android units like aegis are dead.

yes the group cutscene when they introduce sword ye olden english chick. doesn't confirm she's remotely playable as shock all characters including announcers appear magically during cutscenes.

Considering all the scenes so far just show her using a computer and not taking part in battle its pretty obvious she's non playable announcer. But whether she becomes playable later or not is up in the air.

I dont think that is ever stated in the game. Adults *never* use personas in the game, but it is not expressly stated that they cannot (that I can remember).

only young people can use personas and once they hit a certain age such as shinji they lose control and require a drug to force use them. Most people also can't just bring them out on their own and require evokers. they also covered this in the p3 trinity soul anime which akihiko was a minor cameo in.
