Never Kickstart a game. You only end up with endless apologies.

Yeah I didn't back them, but I've certainly enjoyed Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, Hand of Fate, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, and the crowdfunded Pinball Arcade tables.

I always do the checklist for Kickstarters:

1. Does it really need my help before the campaign is over?

This mainly is checking to see if my contribution really helps push a stretch goal, or just get it funded. This disqualified some games like Mighty no 9 (good thing), Bloodstained, Shen Mue 3, etc..

2. Is there something KS exclusive that I can't get afterwards?

This has to do with exclusive promos, hard copies, etc.. I usually don't care too much so this doesn't sway me much.

3. Will it be available after the KS?

Somethings are hard to predict, such as the Glory for Rome Black Box, but most things can be retrieved afterwards. Promos and physical goodies may be harder to get.

So pretty much I only back visual novels I feel wont make it (which most do) and I've been Kickstarter free since the end of Muvluv, which I regret a bit honestly, since I could have received the physical Vita version anyway from retail stores.

Sekai Project's highly dubious business practices appear to have caught up to them. All of their announced Vita titles, except for Rabi-Ribi, are very likely getting cancelled in the coming days. Disappointing, but then it's hard to take any game announcement from Sekai Project seriously. Probably going to drag their feet on their Switch announcement titles three or four years too. At present time LRG has sadly delisted "Vita" as a platform for all of the planned Sekai titles, might just be the nail in Sekai's coffin, or maybe just wishful thinking on my part it would kill off this joke of a company.

Ever since Sekai never delivered on the Fruit of Grisaia Vita port (I believe this was on their Kickstarter), I kind of gave up on them.

At the least they must have heard some complaints, as their 18+ releases have been releasing the same day as their normal releases for their later releases on PC.  Before it would be hours/days/months before we got those and you can believe I was complaining on here.

I don't care much whether a Kickstarter actually needs my investment, as long as they're actually open about whether they do or not. My main two concerns are whether those in charge seem to be on the level (aka whether things will actually pan out), and if the exclusive bonuses are worth my money. I learned the first lesson the hard way with Mighty no. 9. But I've also backed a few projects without opting for exclusive bonuses at all, just because I believed in the project, and they worked out fine.

I finally got my Muv-Luv Vita games. For a minute I thought they sent me the collectors edition by mistake, because the box was so big.

Anyway, I’m just happy to have the games after all this time. I don’t think I’ll ever back another kickstarter again though. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

FWIW, non-gaming / non-tech Kickstarters aren't nearly that much of a roller coaster. I primarily back indy graphic novels and haven't had too many issues (only disaster was Totally Messed Up, but I managed to get my order filled).

Devious Dungeon just went up for sale on Play-Asia! Get it while it's hot, it'll probably sell out fast as limited production as they claim it will be.

Play-Asia releases don't really sell out fast. It seems like they are constantly having sales on previous releases to clear out inventory. Right now if you buy Devious Dungeon you can get 50% off X-Morph. All these deals make me want to wait until there is some sort of promo or deal since availability doesn't seem to be a problem.

Yeah, that's very true, as most games sit more often than not. This game is a smaller run, but also a rather less known game as well, so no telling how long these may sit around? Of course that's the risk you run waiting for a sale on certain items, but I would agree it's probably a safe bet here.

That's true for the PS4 releases, but I believe every recent Vita release has sold out in a few days without being discounted. I don't think anything's gone on sale since Tachyon Project and Semispheres.

So the Red Art Games website, now that it is time for their Vita & PS4 copies of the game to go on pre-order, is crashing and generally not working properly.

Order #111, patience paid off with this website.
Thanks for the heads up on this one, but I'm going to wait and hope for a sale down the road, or just feedback in general on the service and the Vita versions quality. If I miss out, it can't be helped, as there's just to many unknowns in play for this title.

They fired a large amount of staff, but not everyone. "Restructuring" as the CEO calls it. Audi, the dude with Sekai Games states they're alright on their end.

Given their track record, I would not place much credibility in the update from Sekai today. Unless all of those employees were literally doing nothing all day, someone will need to do their jobs and that is going to strain the small remaining staff to the breaking point.

I'm just glad I wasn't that interested in anything Sekai was doing so I don't have to worry about this stuff. Once Shenmue 3 is done then I'm pretty much done with backing anything.

Without knowing their structure, it's all just speculation what they did. But speculation is fun. My theory is the employees were behind in their tasks to the point that if they kept on as they were they would have run out of funds so they fired the people and outsourced their tasks to stay in budget.

*majority was marketing with some outliers.

The staff for translation, programming, editing, and quality control are still working on projects

Source? My understanding is that most of those people were never employees to begin with nor did they work out of the Los Angeles offices. Even Sekai admitted on the Kickstarter update comments that this is going to result in more delays to other games. Not sure why that would be the case if all they lost was the marketing team.

Use to try to keep tabs on this company (Sekai Project) because I, like many others, had hoped for their success. Unfortunately whoever runs Sekai Project seems to lack the God given talent to run a lemonade stand, and is thus failing brilliantly leaving many to scratch their heads and question what happened.

Our wallets will never be safe again, at least not until after March 2019.

Has anyone seen an update from badlands publishing about the velocity 2x vita artbooks and soundtrack? I feel like they said they'd be sent out by the end of july. Am I remembering that correctly?

No, but my understanding is that they are having severe financial problems which resulted in their not being able to publish Everspace (which is why LRG got it). I wouldn't be surprised if they were unable to fulfill these promised items.

Damn, I hope that's not the case, as why go through the process at all, if this was the end game? I mean everyone pretty much said their peace at launch, and while most felt burned, the title itself was very well received. I mean, we all knew the extra's wasn't gonna happen from the start, so why offer it now, only to not be able to make it happen? You where better off just letting it die as it had.

I wasnt one of those who felt burned because I went in knowing the vita version wasnt going to include the extras. I personally dont mind double dipping on the ps4 version to get the bonus goodies considering the game is so good.

I got an email from Badland on June 25 which stated they needed two weeks for manufacturing and another two weeks after that for shipping from Spain. They promised a follow up email with updates on July 9, but I never received anything.

Seems Like A Solid Deal:

Exist Archive $10.45 Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/Exist-Archive-other-side-PlayStation-Vita/dp/B01ESA0W96

..............

Something of interest, the paperwork for my muv-luv games shows a total of $20.  Makes me wonder if total cost of production is $10 per unit on a physical vita game.  If that is the case, then it's much easier to determine to some degree the profitability of any low production limited physical release.

Uhm, okay... Interesting, definitely didn't see this coming... also never heard of it prior despite the history given about it, but then 1990's Euro gaming news rarely ever made it off of that continent.

'Hardcore' is so mythic that I've never even heard of it until now. I agree it looks like nothing special, but if the levels are designed well it could be a fun time.
