GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Traded in 12 (kz/evolve/hm) on Monday and 12 today. I have 6 stores to choose from on my commute to work. I'll probably trade whatever I can everyday until the promotions end.

This promotion and the buy a console($2) get 25% off preowned games(which comes out to 32.5% off w/ pro) have allowed me to build up my Switch library.

Thanks CAG. Flippageddon 2.5?
LOL. I hope you have multiple accounts because getting trade banned for $120... is not something to brag about. If not, I hope those 4-ish switch games you got were worth it.

Flippageddon 2.5? Lol no way.

You are aware you can only trade 4 copies of each title right?
Good luck with that next set, ban hammer coming your way.

lol I'm a CAG veteran. Y'all know it is required that everyone in the family have a gamestop account. The wife, son, daughter and me. Also, the 10% only nets $0.20. For that I just trade with no phone number.

Ah you must be one of the lucky ones that lives in an area where you don't have to give your driver's license with a trade. Here I'd be ID banned even with multiple accounts.

It's a pretty solid promo honestly and I did take advantage of it once, but it's definitely a lot of work for a small profit. I also only have one store in town now. The others are an hour away and usually have the same people working evenings so I can't very well be trading in 4 sets of every game without getting the whistle blown. Hopefully they have a good promo in July before Elite gets axed.

Can you go to your local GameStop and swap for a complete condition?
I bought a few PS4 games (God of War, Spider-man, Tetris Effect) from their website and they all arrived in incomplete (disc only in GS genetic case) condition.
Thanks
It's actually not within their policy to do so. If you want a better condition disc, prepared to have your receipt in hand. I frequent the two local GS here in town. Most of the time, when the manager or ASM is on duty they recognize me as a regular.

In fact, I just did a swap out from an online order the discs and cover art were pretty beat up. SM didn't even bat an eye at my receipt and swapped both cases and discs out without questioning me.

Anyone here ever snipe gamestop from a trade in? I did today while going in to flip shit, didn't feel too bad about it but kinda did as i go there a good amount. Dude came in with a couple old systems, gamecube n64 ps1 360 ps3 and I saw a couple retro things I wanted. Saw he wasnt gonna trade the ps3 cause he had no cords for it and they would give him like $1 after he had to purchase the cables to trade it in so I offered to buy it off him. left my number in his phone and called it as i pretended to not have any cash on me. As soon as I left the store I text the guy saying yo I want all that shit tell them this other game store offered you more $$ and ill give you a better deal. He agree to a deal for $300 and we meet up in the parking lot 20 mins later. I didnt even realize he had a switch and like 7 AAA titles and 4 ok ones as well lol. He said that he looked up the trade in values online last night and it was roughly $300 for everything. Thank god gamestop tanked trade in values for switch games recently. first time sniping from a gamestop and it was awesome! yolo.
In the early 2000s, I would snipe GameStop trade-ins from the parking lot before going into a store if I saw someone who was about to get a few dollars for something that I might have wanted. That's how I got an arcade stick for my original PlayStation. But I don't walk around with cash in my pocket these days.

Gamestop's PUR site has $50 and $25 certs for purchasing one online item (which is different from in-store certs).  Does anyone know if these certs will work for things like Xbox or PSN cards?

The $25 certificate for sure does not work. I purchased it about 3 months ago. Had to call for a refund

As much as I want to take advantage of the trade-in deal ($200 for X1S), I just can't do it knowing Switch revisions are just around the corner.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/12/18662508/nintendo-switch-new-models-china-manufacturing-trade-war
The models will be a budget model with less features probably $200 and maybe a Pro model that has little or no exclusives like New 3DS at $300. I’d say this is one of the last times you’ll get that much credit for other systems towards a switch because the price basement on switch will be $200 and not $300 in the near future

So yes maybe you get a new model (depending on whether you want budget model or a $300 model) but you won’t get $200 for that system trade in a few months

I hope the budget model still comes with a dock. No reason to break “switching”. Just include a dummy wireless controller with no rumble, IR, NFC in the box and bolted on joy cons and they’ll still hit $200 MSRP

That assumes you have either ☹️
I mean, technically, he can also return it himself and just straight up say "there are 2 new switches coming out and I want one of those, instead" then express his intent to pre-order from that store when they are announced.

Anyone else having issues ordering on the site? Tried to order 20 eshop card twice and got cancelled. Using a gift card as payment. Worked fine the other day.

People have had issues with this in the past. I would also make sure to check your gift card balance because people have reported the money being talked from the gift card and not returned. I would recommend always buying the eShop credit in store, but I know it can be pretty inconvenient.

Are you using a computer or a phone? The phone app will sometimes just decide not to work with gift cards.

Just received points for a trade in on Tuesday. Same store that I didn't receive points for a trade at last week. So it doesn't appear to be a district or store specific thing.

Tried on both. On phone, it gave me an address error then finally worked - only to be canceled maybe an hour later.

Yeah, I did. So far, they returned the balance for the first canceled order. Currently waiting to see if my second order gets canceled. But yes, you're right, I should have just gone to the store. Can never trust their damn site.

Had a bad feeling when I saw you all talking about your accounts converting to monthly point certs when they expired...checked my expired account and sure enough, they switched me over with no notification and all my point are gone, certs all expired. Anyone know how CS treats this if I call? That's ridiculous.
I know people find emails hit-or-miss, but I actually did have a super easy time resolving this like a year ago by just emailing their support team. Had something around 6 months of points siphoned off, got a "yeah, we'll fix that" and hey presto got 'em all back. No questions or anything; I would've been pretty impressed, honestly - if, you know, they hadn't been the ones to change the setting in the first place.

I'm having trouble accessing my Order History. Anyone else? Can order no problem but can't see my Order History since yesterday afternoon.

Yup, just checked their website. It's funny, they only changed the pricing on the PS4 versions, since those were the ones with the trade value above $2.........Smh
Probably saw that copies of those games have been selling in stores, so figured to raise the prices on them. Not even realizing people were just flipping them back to the store for a profit. Also explains why there was a stack of them behind the counter when I went this morning(changing price stickers).

But the question is why bother? The trade promo ends in three days anyway

With elite pro and buying with credit you can still get $1 a game 😂. Flippagedon 3.0 for that one guy who was super happy with this flip.

I'm in NC and traded in games with my elite pro membership yesterday and received my points this morning.

I also used an in-store $50 cert for eshop and an in-store $25 cert for steam without issue.

Turned $40 cash into $175 store credit by purchasing and flipping PS4 games off fb market. Pretty decent. My elite pro runs out July 2nd. Hoping for that 70% one more time so I can get enough credit for the new consoles next year.

So they just gave me $2.40 for Killzone. I tried to complain but the whole "automatic system" BS from the clerk didnt get me anywhere. I was also trading in another game that got me the $5 bonus, so it's odd that I couldn't get it on Killzone. Perhaps it's one per transaction now? Don't know
