LEGO Deals 3

I was also oblivious until recently to what’s going on in the world of Pokémon and sports cards. People camping out at Targets for the chance to get a couple packs Friday morning. People essentially gambling thousands on aftermarket hobby boxes to get a rare sparkly card. If I’m gonna throw thousands of dollars at collectibles, I’ll stick with a row of lego dollhouses
It’s definitely annoying. I’m not a huge card collector, but buy a few boxes of hockey cards each year. The ones I bought used to be $70-100 each. Now they’re at least double in price so I just stopped buying them altogether.

Both my kids are really into Pokémon cards and that shit is impossible to find now. I refuse to pay marked up prices since they don’t really take care of them.

I’ve bought one of those character boxes for my son this year. I did find packs at target but I hate paying 4.19 knowing msrp is 3.99, it really is a shifty situation that social media turned this into that.

Tempted to buy a modular but kind of want a GWP. I should know this by now but never pay attention, do GWP offers ever stack with double points or are they pretty good about making sure one ends before the next begins?

Old LEGO would have 3-4 freebies and double points. New LEGO is much cheaper.

I rather a freebie exclusive (Like that awesome teal car) then another 5% off.

My store charged me $0.50 for a bag on my last visit. I got the Shuttle and Spring Lantern Festival so I needed it. I would have brought my own bag if I had known.

Wow that's bullshit. Some states have outlawed plastic bags, but you spend $320 on a box full of plastic I think LEGO can pay for the fucking bag.

My state charges a nickel per plastic bag, then plastic bags were outlawed, then during the pandemic plastic came back, but not all stores charge a nickel any more.

Charging for a bag does seem ridiculous but in general (not LEGO specific) it is a decent way to put the onus on the customer to quit using plastic bags.

Finally cracked open the Saturn V.  I'm about 2/3rds of the way through it.  Man, gotta say, IDEAS builds are becoming my favorite.  They have such unique build techniques.  They still have their flaws (this one had a couple spots I wasn't a fan of and I seem to recall the same about Ecto-1) but I find them more fun than the usual LEGO proper builds.

Also have to say dollar for dollar, at 1900+ pieces for $120 (or around $100 on sale) it feels like a steal.

I'm not even done yet, but I'd definitely recommend this one.

Paper bags used to be free. Then states outlawed plastic bags and started charging for paper. But again, two sets and $320 later LEGO could throw in the bag for free unless it's a state law. 50 cents for a bag seems like a lot. I don't think even Aldi's charges that much.

The Saturn V is awesome, wait until it's done. It's why I was always really annoyed that the lunar lander is $100 for something so much smaller. Should have been $70-80.

I think the Aldi paper bags are 10 cents. I bet lego puts your purchase in the bag for you though.

I like Aldi. Plus my car has never been hit by an abandoned cart, unlike other stores’ parking lots. Amazing how a quarter can motivate people to not be an asshole.

We have three kids so Aldi has been saving us a ton of money. We used to shop at Wegmans. Even though wegmans is very nice, our grocery bills were getting too high. We made the switch and saved

I briefly worked at Wegmans and couldn't even make enough money to afford food there.

Jeez, when did the space probe go up? Something I actually wanted.
You didn't miss anything, it was a typical LEGO shit show. However Huw is going apeshit at Brickset which cracks me up. He is such an asshole. Never really complained when LEGO has been a mess for decades but the one time LEGO didn't send him a free one to review and he missed out he completely freaks. I love it.

Funny how it's gone in the past half decade

  • from paper bags are bad for trees so let's make plastic bags
  • to plastic bags are bad for all the environment so let's go back to paper bags (a little traction) and to reusable bags (a lot of traction)
  • to COVID spreads in reusable bags so let's do plastic bags again

I saw the preview and I liked it ... I wish they did an actual series of mini landscapes from things like Star Wars or other films, kind of like the Architecture series, but for people with imaginations (😜 jk). Not GWP ... but like actual big landscapes. Like if anyone has seen that knock off Hogwarts on Amazon ... it’s actually pretty impressive -

I hope this also means that Return of the Jedi might be getting some new sets sometime this year? I would freaking love a $350 Jabba’s Palace set ... I would buy that on Day One, no hesitation. And this is from someone who has the Palace/Rancor set that came out awhile ago. I would also go for a bigger, expensive Mandalorian set ... maybe something from the Season 1 finale or a new Slave 1 with older Boba.

Is Wegmans as good of a place to work as their PR machine has made it seem? Wegmans has such a cult

No.
It's just as shit as other jobs, just when Amazon and Walmart are employing most of the country Wegmans looks amazing. They rank high because college students and parents love their open scheduling, which was the best part of the job.

They wouldn't even give you a discount on food, or a free meal. Being on food stamps while working for a massive grocery store chain is insanity.

Still love Wegman's because of 24/7 hours (which I think they got rid of), the hot food is great, and no one wants to go to TOPS, but Aldi's and Trader Joe's was so much better and TJ has fresher lettuce.

My favorite cult moment was I was at Wegman's on Thanksgiving at 3:45pm because I wanted pizza for dinner. They were closing at 4pm. They were never closed besides after 4pm on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. They were sticking up closed signs and overhead someone said "The store will be closed in 15 minutes" and the look of horror on these Karens' faces were funny as fuck.

There is a webcam of the flagship store! (Where I worked)

Digging the new Harry Potter sets ... which is problematic since Harry Potter isn’t a line I really collect ... even though I have like 3 HP sets at the moment. But that chess set is going to be tempting and I’m hoping the big minifigure concept extends to Star Wars or Marvel. Ugh, why can’t more new sets be awful like the LEGO Land line 😉

I have no connection to Harry Potter so I probably won't get them unless they're deeply discounted...but I'm really digging those buildable minifigure models.  Would like to see them in other themes.

I think the Harry Potter sets are interesting. LEGO will have two different Harry Potter modular series going on at the same time. I'm sticking with current one as I'm a fan of the sets and not HP.

The brick built figures are really expensive.  We have gotten some on $30 sets, but those two are $120. Still better than that dumbass wooden thing LEGO did for $120.

So the Looney Tunes figures will have three of each per box... except some of the first run boxes sent to reviewers had 6 Roadrunners and no Wile E. Coyote. So just a heads up.

The Marvel minifigure series is supposed to be based on the Disney+ shows. So someone tell me if these are good.

• Scarlet Witch
• White Vision
• Monica Rambeau
• Captain America (Sam Wilson)
• Bucky Barnes
• Loki (with Throg)
• Lady Loki
• Captain Britain (Peggy Carter)
• Zombie Captain America
• Star-Lord (T’Challa)
• Spider-Man (Steve Rogers)
• Thanos (Gamora)
The last five sound awesome.

(EDIT - Just a rumoured list. Might not be 100% or even 1%.)

For those who missed it at the LEGO store, Spring Lantern is in stock at Walmart.com. Not usually a fan of MSRP posts, but these Lunar New Year sets always seem to be in short supply and disappear faster than other sets -

Found some very light clearance at Target today. Zorii Bliss microfighter for $5. Series 2 of the DOTS packs for $1.99 (but Series 1 with poop emoji still full price).  A tray with a bunch of DOTS for $7.50 (50% off).  Resistance A-Wing at 30%.

So yeah. Very light. Not worth running to Target but maybe there's better stuff at your stores.

Seeing the May 4 GWP in better resolution, I’m not as into it. I thought it was Jabba’s Sail Barge and the sarlac, but the homestead and sand crawler is ... eh, it’s alright. None of the new SW sets are speaking to me at the moment, at least not $85 worth.

Gonna hold out and see how that Daily Bugle set turns out, hopefully announced in May. Still kind of tempted to get Winnie the Pooh. Anyone picked that up and have thoughts?

I haven't gotten it yet, but I will. I watched a bunch of videos of it and I really like the set, but it feels like a $75 set and not a$100 set. (Price per piece be damned.)

Daily Bugle is supposed to be released sometime in May so they will have to reveal it before it goes on sale... well most likely. NinjaGo Gardens went on sale before we got LEGO to release info.

I glanced at the post really quick and read that as The Daily Bulge set. I got a good laugh thinking about what Lego masters could do with that theme

I don't care what adults choose to do together as long as there is consent. The pedophiles disgust me
Well we used to joke about girl on girl jet ski action when the figure on the jet ski was a basic minifigure. The Friends jet ski I'm guessing the girls are supposed to be 16ish being they can drive. If they are 18 then my joke wasn't as bad.

I've read way too much into Epstein. The pedophile shit is what actually runs the world. It's disgusting.

Speaking of conspiracy theories ... it’s been awhile since we had a good Aliens line ... I know, I know ... LEGO had a space police relaunch awhile ago ... and Star Wars has aliens.

But I’d like to see something like a cross between Space Police and Alien Conquest ... but with an alien base. Feels like we always get a ton of vehicles but never cool bases. Better yet ... something along those lines, that’s also a modular.
