iOS Game Deals Blog: Parsing AppShopper So You Don't Have To

Good morning CAGers, For the past week or two, I've been maintaining a blog where I highlight the best iOS game deals on the App Store. My goal is to sift through the dozens of price drops that show up on a simple aggregator like AppShopper each day and pick out the two or three that are...

Android needs to step their games up

All of which were on iOS devices long before coming to Android. ;)

What can apple do to improve gaming?

Remember that Shadowrun game from 2007? The one that had cross-platform 360/PC online play? The developers had to give the 360 players all sorts of aim-assists and sticky reticule tracking to get them to even stand a chance against the PC players. It's not a matter of opinion, keyboard/mouse...

What can apple do to improve gaming?

Keyboard/mouse controls are ideal for all sorts of genres: FPSes, RTSes, turn-based strategy games, adventure games, 4X games, Western RPGs, MMOs, and pretty much anything else that requires, or functions leagues better with, a keyboard and/or pointer controls. Playing any of the above with a...

What can apple do to improve gaming?

What I'm saying is, if you want hardware buttons on your portable gaming device, there's already two platforms that have them. Saying that iOS as a gaming platform is flawed because it doesn't have hardware buttons is like saying that the 360 is flawed as a gaming platform because it doesn't...

What can apple do to improve gaming?

I'll have to disagree, actually. One of the things I love about my iPod Touch is that it's so small and thin that you can easily slip it in your pocket. (Compared to the 3DS, which is only barely pocket-sized, and the PSP which needs its own carrying case unless you're wearing '90s-style Jnco...

    Adventure Games!

Hector: Badge of Carnage is the best adventure game on iOS, period. You need it if you're any sort of adventure fan. Scarlett and the Spark of Life: Episode 1 is a hilarious, Monkey Island-style adventure, but only a couple hours long. Still, it's only two bucks last time I checked. City of...

Must have iPad Apps (non-gaming apps)

Not to mention the ability to disguise itself as a PC web browser (so you get the non-mobile versions of websites), a pop-up blocker, a download manager, and more. Atomic Web Browser is really an essential if you're serious about websurfing on your iPad.

What can apple do to improve gaming?

3D action games control just fine; I had no problem with Hero of Sparta and the like. And League of Evil has really tight platforming controls. Really the only genre I can think of that doesn't work well on an iPhone/iPad is FPSes, but then I don't think FPSes control well with anything...

What can apple do to improve gaming?

That really depends upon what you mean by a "proper controller." While it's true that FPSes and fighting games control poorly on an iPhone, something like Battleheart or Dungeon Raid would control poorly with a "traditional" controller. It's all about tradeoffs.

What can apple do to improve gaming?

I think Apple has already done all that they need to do: They've provided a platform that's constrained enough by the iOS "walled garden" so as to not allow for malicious apps, while simultaneously making it open enough that someone with a novel game idea can hash it out in a few months, throw...

iPod Touch\iPhone\iPad -- Ongoing App Sales

Just putting in a plug for Geared; it starts off pretty simple but quickly becomes challenging in the best way possible. I highly recommend both it and its sequel.

Burn The Rope is indeed well worth playing, and it gets pretty bloody hard near the end. In sale news, X2 Snowboarding dropped to $0.99 again, so grab it if you didn't last time.

Voted on Dungeon Raid II. Been waiting forever for both games to have a sale.

iPod Touch\iPhone\iPad -- Ongoing App Sales

Burn The Rope is basically $0.99 all the time. They just raise and immediately drop the price every now and then to drum up interest. In actual sale news, the newly released 6th Planet just dropped to $0.99! 6th Planet is getting rave reviews on pretty much every iOS gaming website, so grab it...
