Yeah, I agree with a lot of what you said here, BrolyB, but I am pretty glad it makes leveling up my maxed-out 3* characters feasible. Joined a PvE alliance, by the way, & the rewards pile up quite a bit faster since everyone has to get at least 15,000 points each tournament.
