Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info

I just got AC: CF for Christmas, and my town is still pretty pitiful. Anyone want to help me out with some fruit? I'll go back through the thread and add some folks before the Eagles game starts. Gates are open and I'll be in and out periodically. Name: Ruth Town: Kingston Friend Code...

What are some good books to read up on various mythologies?

Mythology by Edith Hamilton is excellent for Greek mythology. There's also a smaller section on Norse mythology at the end of the book. It's a good starting point if you haven't read Homer, Virgil, Ovid, etc. The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell is an interesting read as well.

I wish they'd do a deal like this for the BBC sets. Waiting for the 20% off sale to pick up Doctor Who Series 4 and Torchwood Series 2.

I love this thread. Two more books just made their way onto my wish list. Actually, make that three, I just realized I've never read Atlas Shrugged. I thought I had. Liberation looks particularly interesting. I've been on a bit of a dystopian kick lately.

    The Game Show Thread

I watched a lot of The Price is Right, Double Dare and Family Feud as a kid. Now the only game show I watch regularly is Jeopardy, although I do catch Deal or No Deal occasionally.

I got The Story of Edgar Sawtelle for my birthday. I don't know when I'll get to it, though, since I got more than 20 books... :whee:I think next up for me is going to be either Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut or The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I can't decide. America America by Ethan...

Anyone else OCD when they go to Gamestop and start organizing their stock?

I do this in bookstores, a lot. I think it's a carryover from working in a library when I was younger. Not so much at GameStop, though. I have a get in / get what I want / get out mentality when it comes to that store.

Nice, already got my shipping notification for both of my orders. (I remembered that I wanted to pick up MST3K: The Movie after I nabbed Torchwood. My VHS copy of that film is the only reason I still have a VCR.)

I'm still reading this in short bursts. Very enjoyable, but then again I'm a bit of a mythology geek. Picked up Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett last night. The pages seem to be turning themselves. bmachine, I have Your Government Failed You on my Amazon wish list. Hoping to read that...

    Your name came from...^ there?

I was named for my maternal grandmother. Last of 17 grandkids, first one to be named after either of the grandparents. Way to respect the Greatest Generation, guys. After seeing the discussion here, I'm suddenly grateful that my last name is King. Even if half the time people think I'm...

I just started Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I picked it up last spring after reading rave reviews on LibraryThing. I can't believe it's taken me so long to get to it.

Is it weird to go see a movie by yourself?

I don't think it's weird. I've done it a couple times myself, but I usually prefer to go with someone, if only for the post-movie discussion.

State of Fear was interesting. Not one of my favorites, but a quick read that I enjoyed. My favorites by Crichton are Timeline and Sphere. Jurassic Park and The Lost World are also quite good, and much better than the films. (Especially in the case of The Lost World, which was absolutely...
