I noticed sky captain earlier, definately thinking about it + Close Encounters With the Third Kind 30th anni Ed. for less then $20.

I bought District 9 the week it came out at Wal-mart for $20, one of the bets blu-rays out there.

I received Close Encounters today. I can't comment on the video quality because I haven't watched it yet but the packaging is outstanding. Looks like something they took care in making. This is a 2 disc set and it also comes with a picture booklet. Inside is a mini poster showing the various editions of the movie and all the differences between them. It is packaged together inside a nice Blu-ray box.

Others have said the video is great too. This looks to be well worth the price and one of my favorite blu-ray purchases recently.

Haha, I was just pissed that I had waited a year for it to drop and then got burned 5 days later by a lower price. It's the principle, not the money.

No, not at all.

I just bought Gran Torino (Blu-ray) from Amazon and it didn't come with the slipcover.

Now I have to go retail stores and search for a copy with the slipcover. Then you just buy the movie at the retailer with the slipcover, take the slipcover, and return the unopened movie.

I did that with Ninja Assassin and The Dark Knight. I just can't have a movie without the slipcover if I know that that movie has a slipcover.

Seriously? I generally toss away the slip covers and just find them a nuisance.

I am pissed however that the Blu-Ray for season 3 of Mad Men is just a basic BD case and not the larger packaging generally found with the DVD sets. It looks awkward on my shelf next two the previous two seasons DVD sets.

I don't think any Blu-ray boxsets, even the ones that come in larger sizes, are as large as their DVD counterparts. It's meant to save shelf space by shrinking the footprint of the cases.

If you really care that much, just buy a DVD copy of Season 3, and then stick your Blu-ray discs in that box. Or the wiser choice might be to buy the previous two seasons on Blu-ray, since you'll probably buy future seasons of Mad Men on Blu-ray anyway.

You either get the theatrical release of the movie or the extended with all the extra bonus stuff those are your options.

I'm sorry to hear that (regarding Watchmen). I haven't been that bored with a movie since The Insider with Russell Crowe.

My rule of thumb is this: any movie that you like and have liked in the past, read about it on bluray.com to read about the transfer and stuff, and then go ahead and buy it. There's just too many to list. Obviously movies like Transformers, Iron Man, etc are going to look great in high def, but if you liked a movie like say...The Hangover, it's probably $10 at Amazon, grab it.

It's a movie with no redeeming value. It's just about people screaming and suffering. It runs out of creative steam 1/2 way through and the ending is quite lame. On the other hand, the acting is quite good. But still. If you're just too curious about the concept to resist, I suggest renting, but never buying.
