CAGiversary!
This deal has been up for a while, so don't know if it's already been posted, but it expires in 2 days so I thought I'd pass it along. Basically, if you sign up for a new Sony Visa card online, you receive $150 off you first billing period, and also get 10 Sony points for every dollar spent instead of 5 at sonystyle.com. Once approved you can also make a one time purchase on sonystyle BEFORE you even recieve the card in the mail, so you could basically get $150 off a PS3 online, or use it anywhere else. Credit can take 8-12 weeks to show up on your statement, so FYI. Purchase must be made by March 31, 2007 http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...omputers&INT=sstyle-global-rightnav-Sony_Card

From the mods -
Thanks for posting a deal, there is already a discussion of this here:
Wow, I might bite on a PSP with this deal.
I totally agree with that. The only reason I haven't gotten a PSP is I don't feel like spending 250 on it.

Awesome, thanks OP! Just signed up and approved, will get the card in two weeks. If this deal works together with the $40 off $199 from CC coupon, man, that's like getting the PS3 (60 gb) for $409, can't beat that...

Dude, i got the PSP with Ape Escape for $173 (included tax) at CC using the $40 off coupon.

Did you get the core or the entertainment pack?

I don't really want the core system. I'd rather spend $100 on
PSP system
1 GB mem stick
1 movie I don't want
1 game I don't want

Wait...

How much do 1 GB sticks usually cost? If I could only spend 50 on the system now, that would be awesome.

Isn't the $150 credit only good for sonystyle.com purchases?
Maybe I misread ....

Get instant approval and a $150 card credit after your first Sony Card purchase!

If you are approved, you will be able to make a one-time purchase at SonyStyle.com only, with up to a maximum line of credit of $5,000. Additional purchases with this account cannot be made until your card is received in the mail.

Yeah, i got that... right now, i can only use the card on SonyStyle.com, i will get my card in the mail in two weeks.

To answer the earlier question, i think it's $150 off your first purchase, it doesn't say you have to buy it from SonyStyle.com, but you have to purchase it before 3/31/07.

i'm confused. So after you get approved you make a one-time purchase and get $150 off of it. or do you make any purchase then recieve a $150 credit?

Nah, i got the core system... the Entertainment bundle is load of crap! The only thing is the 1gb mem stick, but definitely not worth $50 to qualify as a CAG deal. My brother got a 2gb card, so i'm buying his 1gb for $20.

In CC this week, if you buy the core PSP, you'll get a free game of your choice (5 choices, all sucky if you ask me).

In Target, i believe you get a $20 gc...

Picture it this way... Once you get the card, make a purchase using the card (duh). Then, when the bill comes, you'll see the $150 credit applied to the first purchase. Now, i don't know what will happen if you buy a pack of gum and then a PS3.... You might blow the $150 credit on the pack of gum.

As for me, my first purchase will be a PS3 60 gb and i don't have to pay the bill till 30 days later

p.s. the deal doesn't count the Sony points too :bouncy:, so it's even a sweeter deal if you count the little bonus...

Word of warning to you all ... the $150 credit doesn't come until 8-12 weeks after your purchase. So you will pay your credit card bill for the full purchase price of your item, then 2-3 months later you should get the $150 credited to your statement. I applied for this card in November with the same deal, made a purchase and am still waiting for my statement credit.

So could we buy a pack of gum and then later down the road get $150 in credit to spend? ;) Is there a minimum? That's what I want to know.

Argh man, that sucks... i thought it works like the Sear card (got my bill last week and it got the credit applied already).

In that case, the $150 credit is really like a rebate, darn!

It looks like you could fill your tank up with some gas, and then 2-3 months later get $150 credit on your bill, which you could then use for whatever you want... Looks like I may be getting that 360 a little sooner than I thought....

You do not have to buy something from SonyStyle to get the $150 credit (if you're instantly approved then they allow you to use your new card for a SonyStyle purchase - all other purchases have to wait until your get the actual card and activate it)

The $150 will show up on your credit card after you make any purchase (they'll credit your account with $150 - you can think of it as Chase is sending a $150 payment to your card). Some people who did this have reported that they got the $150 credit within a few weeks of buying something - I made my first purchase for $21.79 with the card on 12/27 so I'll let you guys know when I get the $150 bonus

If you buy something small (few bucks) you should still get the bonus. When they apply the bonus, your card balance will go negative and when it does you can request a "credit balance refund check"

The card does have 12 months of 0% APR on purchases so if you're buying something expensive, you dont have to pay off the bill in full after you get first statement (if you're depending on the bonus) - you'll have to at least pay the minimum amount

Thanks for posting this

I was debating between purchasing the Sphrex Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers and Sony's MDR-DS1000 Surround Sound Headphones for my gameroom. With the $150 credit, the headphones were my choice (who can argue with free?!?)
So, can you cancel this card any time?
Yep - just do it after getting the bonus =P
I already have my awesome PSP and PS3, so I cannot take advantage of this. I still want a Sony credit card, since Sony rocks.
You dont need to buy from Sony to get the bonus

Damn! I got denied-- not per se of course. Got the "We'll let you know in 30 days" bit.
If I do happen to get approved, since I'll be approved past the expiration date, will I get the bonus since I originally applied tonight?

Can someone explain a credit card to me, are there any fees and the like that randomly pop up, or do I only get charged when I use the card? So if I don't use it I don't get billed anything?

Really? That's cool then.
Now only if I know if I get the 150 or not... hopefully so.
Isn't this the third thread we've had on this in the past two days? Are the Sony employees due for review?
$150 is high for a CC signup bonus so its a good deal plus the deadline is getting close so more threads are popping up (I dont see how Sony employees would benefit from this since there is no referral links and this deal comes from Sony & Chase)
Really? That's cool then.

If you are approved, you should get the bonus since you applied before the deadline
Can someone explain a credit card to me, are there any fees and the like that randomly pop up, or do I only get charged when I use the card? So if I don't use it I don't get billed anything?
This card has no annual fee

You'll have to read up on credit card basics on your own to understand about CCs (google it)

I got the 30 day message despite have flawless, incredibly high credit score and already having two other cards with $5000 limits. But if I get the free $150 I'll be happy.
I'd sign up but I doubt I'd get approved. I don't have much of a credit history yet.
Just apply, $150 is worth it =P

Chase is being extremely generous these past few months since they have a hude amount of extra money they need to loan out

This is my first credit card I'm attempting. I'm going to be leaving my current employer within a week. Do they actually call them or something or do they just ask for it for no real reason?
I need a credit card to build good credit... my problem is figuring out where to get one... adn if this is a good one.
It's not bad from my knowledge of credit cards. No annual fee, 15 point something APR after the first year (which is actually good for a first timer like yourself, I think I started somewhere in the 20s) so if you get approved for it, it's not a bad card at all.
Please read the disclosures for yourself though, in case I screwed up when I read them.
Can multiple people from a household apply for this card? If so, I could get up to $450...
Yep
This is my first credit card I'm attempting. I'm going to be leaving my current employer within a week. Do they actually call them or something or do they just ask for it for no real reason?
Nope, plus they ask for household income and not just your personal income
I need a credit card to build good credit... my problem is figuring out where to get one... adn if this is a good one.
Are you a student? Its much easier to get student cards. One of my cousins with no history applied for a Citi Platinum student card and started out with a $500 limit. Then he applied for a Citi MTVU student card a few months later and also got a $500 limit on that (the limits have increased a little). My other cousin just applied for a Citi MTVU student card a couple of months back and got a $500 limit. Then he just applied for a Citi Platinum card a few weeks back and just got the card with a $1000 limit (again, no history at all)

If you're not a student then the best option is to open a bank account at a local branch (like Chase for example) and then put in $500-$1500 in the bank. Apply for one of their cards after a couple of weeks and they'll most likely approve you for at least a $500 limit. I've recommended this method to 3 people with no credit history and it worked everytime (they did it with Chase since its the most convenient bank to use in Chicago and its one of the biggest banks in the US)

I tried signing up. Filled it all out, clicked the legal disclosure, that opened up properly. Then I clicked submit buttom and nothing happened. Waited a few minutes and finally clicked it again (using Netscape). Nothing happened again, checked email nothing there either. So I clicked the cancel button and that's that. No email, no loading page, no indication it did anything but I sure wasn't going to sit there clicking it over and over lest it do something multiple times (without informing me). So is that how it is supposed to go? Just submit it and not inform me of what's going on or was there a problem (I hope there was a problem and it just wasn't going through)?

I'm not feeling very pleased with how it went...

The 0% APR for the first 12months is nice. First time credit card applicants, please use discretion when opening up an account. It is easy to see $150 dollars and want to jump all over this. The APR is variable, and in no way are you guaranteed that rate. 15.24% is a good rate for first time holders, but you may very well see a rate somewhere in the 20s. Student cards have more restrictions but I have generally seen lower interest rates on these. Good way to get your feet wet and build some credit while hindering your ability to destroy your credit.

When it comes to financial matters on the internet, I have taken a "submit once and only once" approach. I have been burned before and it is a hassle to clear everything up. I would rather wait a day or two for some sort of confirmation or call the company directly. Hopefully everything works out ok for you.
