Welcome to my 2008 Suicide Baseball contest. This is another great chance for one of you lucky CAGs to win some fabulous prizes. Here's how it works:
Much like Admiral Ackbar's popular Suicide Football contest, all you have to do is pick one MLB team each period. In order to advance, your team must win 5 games in the given period (Contest periods will run Monday - Wednesday of the next week.) If your team wins 5 games, you advance on and get to pick for the next week's games. If your team does not win 5 games, you're out.
It is your responsibility to check the MLB schedules. If you pick a team, and they only play 8 games that period...that's too bad, they still have to win 5 games.
Also, if your team happens to have some rain outs in a given period, they still have to win 5 games, that's just a part of the deal.
You may only pick each team one time, ie, if you pick the redsox in week #1, you cannot pick them again for the remainder of the season.
Players will also have one bye week. You can elect to use your bye week at any time. Using your bye week will automatically advance you to the next week. Also, should a player not get their pick in before Monday @ 8 AM, their bye will be forced upon them for that week.
On monday mornings I will make a time stamped post to the effect of "Week #1 now set" When I make that post, you are not allowed to edit your posts for any reason until I give the OK. If, during that time, you edit your pick for any reason you will be eliminated immediately.
Finally, the last person standing will be the winner and receive a fabulous prize consisting of an XBOX 360 Arcade System and other random prizes.
So, if you would like in, just post your week #1 team in this thread before May 12th. Week #1 will run from May 12th to May 21st.
Please ask any questions that you have before the contest starts.

For example, I picked the Cardinals for week 1 under the old format. If they win four games in the original week 1, the way I read the rules means that I would get a free bye for the new week 1 AND be able to re-use the Cardinals? Or does it mean that I won't lose whatever team I choose in the meantime for the new week 1? I'm confused.

If your team from the first contest wins their 4 games, you get a free pass on to the second round of this contest. You still have only one bye week.

As of now (Saturday morning) only 3 people have earned the free first week pass with the new format; you and Spitfire158 with the Marlins, and Psydrogen with the Pirates. Those are the only 2 selected teams that have 4 wins since Monday.
Several other teams only need one more win either today or tomorrow to lock up a first round pass for the people who picked them: Oakland, Boston, Chicago (White Sox), Tampa, Philadelphia, Houston, and Atlanta are all sitting on 3 wins so far.
In fact, there are 9 more teams with 2 wins, and each of them play twice this weekend, so anybody who picked Arizona, LA Angels, Minnesota, St. Louis, Baltimore, LA Dodgers, Chicago (Cubs), Detroit or Toronto still has a shot at the first week pass as well.

I agree. I think for each new pick, just make a new post. That way he doesn't have to go through all old posts trying to find new picks. That can be more time consuming and more of a headache.
If I were running it, I'd say no to editing posts. If someone places a pick for a certain week and wanted to change it later before the deadline, they can just make a new post saying they want to change from that team to this team.
That way it's easier on the OP, because he can just keep moving forward through the thread instead of having to keep going through how ever many pages it may build up.

Well, the A's were looking like a sweet pick a few days ago when they were the first team to get to 3 wins for the week, but now.... not so much. Still, they have Harden going today, so I like their chances to get win # 4 today.
Since the A's won today, I'll gratefully take the free pass for Week 1.
If they lose, I'd like to switch to the Cubs for my Week 1 choice.
