I turn on my 360 tonight, and to my despair I receive the nice little 3 red lights of death. Mind you, this is my 4th Xbox between my brother and I. He possibly made the smarter choice and switched to PS3 after his last one died... Anyway, are there any slammin' deals out right now for the 360 (new/old versions)? Much appreciated in advance guys. :applause:

Call up microsoft and remind them their product sucks.. If they say its out of warranty tell them they sold you a lemon.. If they say they will fix it for $100 tell them you can buy a new one for that price.. If they insist theres nothing they can do demand to speak to a warranty specialist. Thats how I got mine fixed for free last time. It was however the 6th time in the 3 year period that I had it that it broke. In response to your question though I think target is still offering a $30 gc with purchase but not 100% on that.

Not a bad idea. Mine is def out of warranty, but maybe if I reiterate to them that I have gone through 4 xboxes they might give me a deal.

Well Target has the Arcade for $130 with $30 GC, but I think the deal ends today ... maybe if you're on the West Coast you can still make it.

In store only; there is a thread in the deals forum. Target ran the deal twice in the last month; the first time some people got a $50 GC, that was the only YMMV part.

Crap, it looks like you were right. The price jumped back up to 150 on the site, so I'm assuming the deal is over everywhere. I've looked at other places, and no where has a good deal even on the elite bundles.

I just went to Walmart in hopes of finding the FF13 bundle for 199 like some others have found, but mine just has 2 at 249. How long do you think it'll take for Walmart to do a universal price drop on it?

Yeah mine just died, too. My original died in Aprill 2008 and it was still in warranty so I got a new one back free. Does anyone know if the warranty is from the original unit or the replacement? My replacement they sent would still fall in the 3 years but my original one does not any more. I'll call xbox customer regardless and see if I can get them to replace it. Its hard to believe how poorly these were designed that people have to go through multiple of them.

haha apparently, my 360 was still under warranty, so they are going to take care of it for free. I could have sworn that this thing was way past the warranty date, but maybe when I told her how many 360s I've been through she hooked it up for me.

Nice, glad to hear that. I'l have to give the service place a call when I get a chance.

First off, it's Microsoft. What more do you expect from them with their quality track record?

Second off, I'd be curious to know just how many of those sales that put them ahead of the PS3 were from exactly this kind of situation.

I came close to buying an Xbox once or twice, but I never pulled the trigger because I want a console that will still work 4 or 5 years from now. Sadly, even the new slim models have already had reports of Red Dot of Death (the new RROD).

I guess it just sickens me that so many gamers continue to put up with this inexcusable crap from Microsoft.

Hi I have a brand new Arcade unit (with Jasper chipset) which I was going to post on eBay. It doesn't have any extra bundled games though. If you're interested PM me. Willing to let it go for $100 plus shipping (probably like $118 total).

I checked the site and it says my xbox was out of warranty (as I thought), yet they still aren't charging me. I reccomend that all CAGs with a broken 360 call up Microsoft and tell them you have had one too many break and that you are ready to switch to PS3 if they want to charge you. Worked for me! ;)

Yeah it IS Microsoft but the sheer number of failed systems and people going thru multiples is just staggering. What type of quality testing did they do on these things? Very little apparently. First run system can be expected to have some issues but the issue here has went on for years.

I agree 100%, a console should last no fewer than 5 years of constant play. i still have my original snes, genesis, ps1, n64, dreamcast. and they all still work fine, i've had my 60gb ps3 for 5 years and it still works great. the 360 is the only console i've ever saw that could possibly die the same week you buy it. it does add alot of tension to the games though, every i'm afraid it's gonna red ring again. i'm on my second console(core system died last year, got a good deal on the elite). if it red rings again microsoft can go fuck themselves, i'll stick with Sony and Nintendo who actually care about building a reliable console. Microsoft doesn't care, there making too much money from all the idiots buying 5+ consoles.

i got the ring of death and my power supply was red and i when to xbox and they said to unplug the power brink from the xbox and the power cord from the power brink and from the wall then plug it back in and it works for now

What quality track record? Since we're talking about the 360 here, its safe to assume you're not talking that *that* issue, so what other hardware have they released with a bad track record?

I've owned mice,pc controllers, a 1g Zune(2 actually), and an original Xbox.. all of them are flawless. Other than these things, what hardware has microsoft even produced? and what of that has had problems on the level such that we could predict the 360 mess?

mice.. controllers.. zune.. xbox.. 360.. webcams.. that's about all i can think of as far as microsoft hardware.. and the only one that has any widespread problems is the 360

..or are you just one of those "hate MS because they're MS" guys?

RROD warranty is 3 years for those who didnt already know.
Microsoft also pays for all shipping back and forth.
So it doesnt cost you a thing except being without your 360 for about 2 weeks.

Thats above and beyond what most companies will do for you.
As an example just try return or repair an iphone and you will realize what the other end of the spectum is like.

I love my shoddy Xbox. Been almost 3 years. Had it repaired once by MS and received that same system back. Not bad :)

You poor battered wife.

I'm on #4 and 5... The first one was repaired by MS (RROD). The second was replaced by extended warranty at GS (RROD). The third should have been replaced by extended warranty at GS (RROD), but they neglected to tell me when I bought it that the warranties ran concurrent instead of extending the term... So I sent it to my cousin in FL, who got it replaced under the warranty (FL won't allow companies to run concurrent warranties - they make them run them end to end). In the meantime, I had bought a new arcade unit from Dell... So - #4 and 5 since launch. *crosses fingers* both of these are running fine, but both are less than a year and a half old.

That's what happens when the power brick overheats. If you get the 3 rings and the power brick light is orange or green, yer fucked.

My original Xbox still works like the day I bought it. If anything, the only issue I've had with Microsoft products before was a patch for Windows XP that caused me to have to reinstall Windows from scratch since my system didn't even want to load up Windows at all after the patch.

Then again I haven't owned a 360 at all yet this gen. But last gen if you wanted to talk about shit quality hardware, the PS2 was the one to bitch about. The Disc Read Error issue was so rampant it wasn't even funny. I knew people who went through 3-5 PS2's in the same timeframe many are going through the same number of 360's in.

And before anyone says it the DRE didn't happen to everyone, but it did happen to numerous people I know. Sick part is they took care of their systems. They babied them and they STILL got the DRE issue. Yet I've bought PS2 systems from used shops locally that looked like they should've never in a million years worked right and after taking them home they powered up the first time and every time. Weird.

My same one non HDMI console has been "repaired" 6-7 times for 3 red rings and a disc drive issue (saw games as mixed media) by Microsoft. I kept it in an air conditioned when hot room and I had it on a shelf all alone with nothing but breathing room around it but still. I've had no problems since the last repair when I got a refurb with upgraded insides and a new power supply about 2 years ago. Almost everyone I know has sent in a 360 sadly...... Some didn't even take that extra step when it broke for a repair they just chucked it in a corner because they didn't want to be bothered with the repair process. I know of two people still on a launch system though and I hate em lol.

The one thing that I find so strange about this though is how defensive people get about the topic, I get it if your a Microsoft employee but geez. I've mentioned this in the past when it was happening to everyone and got yelled at on the internet about how I must be doing something wrong and putting it on the carpet blocking the fans or putting tape over the fans..... -_- I love how everyone was a tech ninja all of a sudden. :wall: Biggest surprise to me though is how no class act law suit happened since this was a real problem and people tend to start those over anything "This Bacon is to awesome! Does everyone agree!? Class action time!"

Whatever though, somehow after all of this I still love my 360 the best out of the 3 systems and I have wood for Microsoft and their awesome products. I know they didn't fuck up the launch on purpose so I'm not to butt hurt if I was at E3 and got a slim for free then that would heal my butt hurtness completely. :) I just saw 360 issues mentioned and I started typing since I've dealt with it so much. Forgive the crappy venting essay dudes and dudettes!

I'm looking forward to picking up a slim when I get the money together and punching my current 360 in the face.... Good job on getting your out of warranty 360 fixed OP. Hopefully you get one back that will last the rest of the 360's life cycle and more like mine is finally looking like it will.
