It took awhile for conception to go on sale. I'd say give it 9 months to a year. Bet PQ will be on sale by then.
I agree. It will probably be $30 or $25 first, and eventually it will join the $15 sale club. That said, I bought it full price and am pleased I did so to support it (I also talk about this below, but I wrote that below before I wrote this--whoaa, so this is like future Jesse here---I now return you to Past Jesse)

WTF I just bought Etrian Odyssey 4 for 30 like 2 days ago. I never ever buy things on impulse and this is exactly friggin why.

Does Nintendo have a 7 day price guarantee/match thingy like actual stores do?
If it's any comfort, I bought EOIV full price when it came out and loved the hell out of it. Did the same with EO:U. And I even paid full price for Persona Q and haven't played it yet. I know, though--I got them and played them when they were brand new, where as you are getting it not so new when it's on sale frequently for half what you paid. This is kind of crap.

But, just the same, EO:IV is so totally worth the $30. Once you start playing, you won't even care about losing out on $15.

If nothing else, Tetris Ultimate feels solid and professional, with the fundamentals and no glitz or dumb stuff. Everything looks Spartan and professional. No nonsense Tetris.

Either way, I am not entirely convinced even the developers of GH knew what they were doing at the time they made it. Mad genius like that is right less often than a broken clock.
Agreed on Tetris Ultimate. Axis just seemed messy to me.

And agreed on Guardian Heroes, too. I think you're exactly right that they had no idea what they were doing. I think I'd be satisfied with something that was just "like" Guardian Heroes, though. Okay, so I'm the only one who likes Code of Princess. :) I wouldn't say I'm satisfied with it, just that I like it. I like Senran Kagura Burst, too, but it is not a very good game...

It's [Mario and Luigi Dream Team] kind of RPG light with action elements. Some people weren't fond of it because there's a lot of chatting.
It still has an RPG combat system, though. I would actually say the above is more descriptive of Paper Mario: Sticker Star! :p

I know this isn't a thread for New 3DS discussion, but there are more knowledgeable people in here and folks I like and trust. So, feel free to ignore this non-deals, non-games post.

Basically, I had planned to buy a New 3DS at Gamestop on Friday, do the system transfer, then bring both systems back in to get my $100 credit for trading my old system. However, they have sold their stock and will not have any systems on Friday except pre-ordered systems. He said I could still trade in my old XL for $100 off a new one but that I'd have to wait for a week to get my new one. I said, but I have to do a system transfer.

He said that a co-worker had spoken with Nintendo, and they said you can basically "back up" your 3DS, then trade it in, because all you need is your SD card and the serial number from your system to get all your stuff back on a New 3DS XL.

Obviously this sort of sounds like B.S. at best and a freaking disaster at worst. I probably have $500-1000 of stuff on my 3DS. Sure, I might not have paid that much for it all (deals, yay), but it would cost me $1000 to replace it all, I bet. I don't want to risk losing my stuff.

Thoughts?

It just sucks, because I really wanted to take advantage of trading my old one in for $100. It has a crack in it, so I can't actually sell it for $100. I don't want to rip anyone off (but I didn't mind ripping off Gamestop). He said I could be there at 7am when the store opens in case they have extras, but I have to be to work at 8, and it seems a little iffy (about as iffy as his "back up your old 3DS and trade it in" method outlined above).
The manager at my store is going to let me do a return/rebuy.

May want to try that. Take it home, transfer, return/trade/rebuy.

Also, work out that detail with the manager before you try to do it, otherwise you may not get a good result.

That's what I was planning on doing, but they sold through their initial stock already, and by the time they have more stock, the trade-in deal will be over, thus his odd solution of "backing up" my 3DS and trading it in now................ iffy at best...

He may mean you'd need the serial number when you call Nintendo so they can transfer the rights to your new 3ds. Which I thought was only if your old 3ds was stolen or broken. But I do feel your pain. I wanted to do the trade at GameStop, but my local store was all weird about doing the transfer in store. So I'm just going to purchase mine at target with my red card and a bunch of gift cards I've been hoarding. Once my transfer is good to go, I should hopefully be able to sell it to someone in the hospital I work at.

Best of luck!

Well yeah, the Paper Mario line are action games now. I just mean RPG Light in that it's not some heavily stat driven random battle deal or something. It's lighter and accessible fare.

Gotcha. Good point. (Although Paper Mario still... kind of... has an RPG combat system... even though it's not really even an RPG anymore, as you mentioned. Semantics at the best of times too though.)

Did you play the N64 or Gamecube versions? It's been a while for me, but I remember thinking the Gamecube one was fairly deep. Okay, maybe not deep, but medium. I was just wondering if you'd consider them light, too. It's funny, because I think the Mario and Luigi RPG series has always been about the same, and when it first came out, it was lighter than Paper Mario. Now Paper Mario is lighter to the point of not necessarily even being an RPG, and the M&L games are deeper.

Why I care, who knows.

Even asking if someone has played Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door should be considered an insult. I would consider someone who has not played PM:TTYD unfit for polite company. Even in my wildest dreams I still aspire to be even a tenth as clever or charming or witty as PM:TTYD. I detest RPGs and I loved that game to death.

If you have your 3DS product code, yes, in theory you could get the games. Here's how you'd do that: you'd call up Nintendo's Customer Service and then argue with them until you got someone to agree to transfer the games to your new system. They don't want to do it, they generally tell you they can't, and then you have to argue them down into doing it. It's not something they officially do. The GS employee is telling you something that is technically possible to do, but not realistic.
I think you're right about that. He said "One of our employees did this." I wonder if said employee will lose all his crap or actually get it back.

I think I'm going to just buy one where ever I can find one, and then hopefully it'll still be Friday or Saturday so I can transfer, then hurry up and trade my old XL in for $100 credit anyway. I think it's an offer for $100 credit on anything, not just a New 3DS XL. So then at least I'd have the credit. Or I could put it toward a second New 3DS XL and sell it on eBay for $150. That's sort of like selling my old XL for $150, minus sales tax and pain/suffering. (Again, it has a crack in it, so I can't really sell it on eBay, but I doubt Gamestop will notice.)

But, but... Don't RPG's in general feature a lot of chatting? ;)
Yeah, but this is like Toad telling you how exactly to do every little thing, and then you do it, and then he talks some more about how to do things. It's like your dad, only it's Toad and it's a game.

Yep, truly one of the best games of all time. Why they decided to take 3DS Paper Mario down a different route, I don't know; I blame Miyamoto. I would have been happy with just a 3DS version of PM: TTYD.

I meant take both home, do the transfer, go right back, ask to "return" the new one with your stuff on it, then buy it again right there with the trade promo. Of course a charger is like 15 bucks...

I'll sit tight in case the moral police think this is wrong.

They don't have any to buy. They're all pre-ordered. He said I could show up at 7 in the morning just in case they have an extra, but I don't think I want to do that...

I thought you had one preordered, my bad.

It sucks that promo ends friday. In reality it's a $25 bump, but you would need a charger for your new one. Honestly it would be a wash, since you would need that, time, and gas in it, to do a transfer and run back and forth.

I appreciate your attempts to make me feel better! :p I have a few extra chargers, but I just use a $6 USB charger anyway. I think it might be Friday and Saturday both? But yeah, you're right--it's only a $25 bump. I will still probably trade the old one in for credit at least.

lol I just realized I can't get mine until saturday...and the damn promo ends Friday.

Crap.

I am upset they ran out of preorders Monday. I knew I should have made more time over the weekend to get one in. I doubt I'll be able to take advantage of the trade-up deal now.

Anyway, I hate RPGs, as mentioned, but I tried the demo of EO4, my first EO, and ended up liking it enough to say eh, it's just $15 and Eshop bux are on sale this week. Thanks for telling me how kickass the battle music was.

The rats and the baboons in the second dungeon are violating me up the butt though. I think the demo is screwing me out of much needed grind by locking me out of that extra forest around the corner from the second dungeon.

I have no idea what you're talking about. It's been like two years since I played it. Are you talking about floors or stratums? And the baboon in the demo can be beaten in the demo. Are you talking only about the demo?

I'm talking only about the demo. I flew to the second dungeon and the back half of that dungeon spawns baboons that kill party members in one hit. The rats will do it too if they get off that asshole bite attack. I think I just need to grind some more.

Ah, I see. I think you should be around level 8 to be able beat the baboon. But also know it's an Etrian Odyssey game -- even if it's the easiest one in the main series, lots of things will still be able to kill you with one hit if you're lazy or overconfident. Even if you're not, things will kill you.

Your party make-up, formation, equipment, and what skills you level also mean a lot.

Flipnote Studio 3D code for anyone who wants it.  Let me know so I can cross it off or 25 people will waste time trying to redeem it.

I can't remember, but I think I played that game on easy mode. I don't really regret it either. If I recall, easy mode keeps you from losing anything if you die. On normal mode if you die, you lose all your progress since your last hard save (quicksave don't cut it). Especially if you hate RPGs...

Really glad you're liking it, though! And how about dat battle tune. Now just invest 50+ hours to get to the halfway point so you can hear the second main battle tune!

Here are the new deals for today:

3D Game Collection - $4.99 - 16% Off - Ends 2/27

Battleminer - $7.99 - 20% Off - Permanent Price Drop

Brunch Panic - $2.79 - 30% Off - Ends 2/26

Funfair Party Games - $6.99 - 12% Off - Ends 2/27

Murder on the Titanic - $5.99 - 25% Off - Ends 2/27

Sweet Memories: Blackjack - $2.79 - 30% Off - Ends 2/26

New Releases:

4 Elements - $4.99

3D Fantasy Zone - $5.99

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy+ - $39.99

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D - $39.99 - Out 2/13 at Midnight

Pong Pong Candy - $1.20

I feel like I say this alot, but do NOT buy Sweet Memories Blackjack. It is freaking horrible and a waste of game. Not even for the Club Nintendo coins.

Did you guys see the three new Zelda themes that are available. There are two majora's mask themes and the third is an 8-bit Link. One of the majora's mask themes is literally the art from the new 3ds MM edition. So you lucky bastards who get a MM console can go crazy with the gold theme.

As a huge Zelda fan it's tempting to get all three, but a $1.99 seems like a waste when it could be put towards another game.

You realize by saying it's so shitty, you inspired me to get it.

Thanks.
Please don't. If you need to look at sexy anime chicks, watch the Game Grumps playthroughs of Go Go Nippon or Sakura Spirit. If you want Blackjack, there are hundreds of apps that are better. If you want a fanservice game, buy Senran Kagura.

You could play a hundred games and only win about 10 of them and make about 3% progress.

Hmmm - as usual with these things my still not opened Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl is all of a sudden worth something (it is the original print with soundtrack CD) so I might as well snag the digital game for $15. Since I've been getting all these Club Nintendo rewards I'm getting used to having digital games now. The only one I had before all that was Animal Crossing.

Edit: And apparently it will earn me some Club Nintendo coins so I might as well do it now while they still count.

As for the themes, I'm tempted to buy one just because that free Sonic one is kind of driving me nuts and the plain ones are boring. I wish they had some of those as Club Nintendo rewards.

If you want a fan service game DON'T buy Senran Kagura. Just go to a 4chan /v/ Senran thread or head to the appropriate danbooru tag for you're waifu and start saving pictures. They are terrible games, on Vita and on 3DS.

Top notch girls though.

He's right actually... it really is not worth the $2.50 or whatever the sale price is. For $1, maybe... think about it if you dont like candy bars or a bottle of juice or something that is actually nutritional.

I'm guessing the sales this week and probably next week will try to make MM the star of the show.

How do you quicksave?

And I am triggered by the phrase "easy mode."

Looks like you can find Luigi's Mansion 2 still around retail pricing for a physical copy, though the other ones, nope.
Luigi's Mansion 2 was on sale in the eShop at one point, which is how/why I have it. Maybe it will happen again (and maybe the others too).

I actually thought Senran Kagura Burst was okay, not that I played it a ton. I guess we've already established I like sub-par side-scrolling beat'em ups. However, I spent most of my time playing wishing it was just a better game and more like Kenko Bancho instead. And the time I didn't spend wishing it was better, I spent looking at bouncing boobs and wishing they bounced more realistically. (I know saying I play it for the fighting is like saying you read Playboy for the articles, but...)

Since I've been getting all these Club Nintendo rewards I'm getting used to having digital games now. The only one I had before all that was Animal Crossing.
I pretty quickly converted to all-digital. Even the Nintendo first-party games are generally cheaper digitally anyway, and I don't care about physical copies, and I like the convenience. I still have an unopened Millennium Girl myself I got for my girlfriend for Christmas a year ago. Maybe I'll sell it. She probably won't even notice since she apparently doesn't care. (I am not very good at Christmas presents...)

How long will it take for Majora's Mask to go OoP like Ocarina, Luigi's Mansion 2, Kid Icarus, and Starfox 64 3D are OoP now?

Thank you for this comment. It made me decide to check out the two target stores in my area. At the second store, to my amazement, I found the very last copy of OoT 3D. I paid full retail for it, but considering the price gouge on eBay and used game sales, and I'm fine with that.

Yeah, it's very rarely gone below MSRP for a hot minute so it's not like it's a bad price relatively speaking.

Lucky! I started looking for a retail copy a few weeks ago after I learned it was oop. So mad I couldn't find one and eBay had them for like $70.

Luckily, my wife wanted to get it for me for valentine's, so that made me look at Gamestop. Found a complete copy for $45 and I drove 30mins for it. Totally worth it.

Hey! Senran Kagura is a pretty decent game. I could easily recommend it at $20. It's actually a fun sidescroller beat'mup if not a little repetitive. At least its not the abortion that was code of princess.
