Pushmo or Crashmo dudes? I've got 8 virtual dollars burning a hole in my e-wallet.
I believe Pushmo is the one that everyone always points to as one of the best games on the system.

That's just gaming 101. You don't hack away at enemy whose armor is strong against blunt damage, neutral against slash and weak against pierce with a hammer....

Well yeah but that doesn't stop you from beating an enemy in most games if you have a sub-optimal setup, it just makes it harder. SMT IV makes it impossible in some situations if you don't have the right setup. It's designed so that if you have the right team and string together the right attacks that you'll end up taking several turns worth of attacks while the boss sits and waits. It's meant to be that way because a lot of them will decimate you in two or three turns if you're not using the systems like that. Not to mention it goes the other way too where if you have a party member with the wrong affinities a boss can get several attacks and wipe you out in one turn.

True, but it can be difficult to ascertain enemy weaknesses at times. Guessing wrong can be disastrous, especially if the enemy can exploit your teams weaknesses. Fortunately you can save anywhere, and new, stronger party members are just a few button presses away in the cathedral of shadows.

Whoops sorry about that quote. I'm posting on my phone.

Anyway yeah, I've already been humbled by SMT IV. I like it though. It requires a lot more thought than most RPGs. I've put together some parties that were disastrous in battle, then a simple change of demons made it much easier.

Yea I was enjoying SMT IV quite alot for the 4-5 hrs I was playing it then BAM I get creamed by the first boss over and over again so I put it down and moved onto MnL dream team.

This is the truth, most RPGs just let you "play wrong" and have a slightly harder go at things. In a lot of games I ignore half the crap they try to teach me or simply forget because the game doesn't necessitate its use and I just forget how to do all of it. I really felt this was true in the Last Story which I just finished, that game let me play like a complete ass for the first 90 % and then forced me to get my shit together at the end. Needless to say, the game was infinitely cooler once I was actually using all of the little systems they had in place.

Ok, so I bought all I wanted from the sale, and have about 8 bucks left. I know neither is on sale, but I am considering Pushmo or Crashmo, do you have any opinions on which one to start with?
Pushmo is way better in my opinion. I loved it and kept playing until the end, a good 9 hours at least.

Crashmo over-complicates things in my opinion, making completing some puzzles take way too long. I've probably put in equal time, but Crashmo hasn't been fun and I've not completed nor do I plan to return to complete it.

Cave Story (on sale for $6.99)

Crashmo looks like they wanted to do something new rather than MOTS, but when I saw it, I got the impression that they went a bit overboard. I'm afraid to blind buy it due to the possible difficulty/frustation. I'll say it again: Crashmo & Pushmo REALLY need demos.

I ended up selling my copy of SMT IV a few months ago before I could play it.

Is there anything to do beyond dungeon crawling and fusing demons? Any real exploration or wandering?

The game itself isn't necessarily that difficult. It's more that you're expected to understand the systems very well because the game requires you to almost try and exploit them. So if you're under leveled, or don't have the demons with the right skills and resistances you run into these fights that become impossible and create these massive difficulty spikes.
that's exactly right. And it can be deceptively difficult starting out before you get any demons. But the game does have an easy mode you can activate after dying a few times. I've always been confused by people saying it's such a difficult game.

Nah, just buy them. I get frustrated kind of easily with games, but neither ever made me feel frustrated.

Whoa, what?  How did the Atlus games go on sale?  Wasn't expecting any changes til Thursday.  Gave my copy of Overclocked away, so I will buy it again!  Thanks, Atlus.  Had all the rest already.

(I now realize this is how we got on the topic of SMT IV.)

I was pretty surprised to see it... even braved Best Buy to buy more 20% off gift cards. I picked up SMT4 and trying to decide what to get next...

Glad you said that, I actually forgot to buy that.

Not really, it's dungeon crawling demon pokemon.

Whoa, what? How did the Atlus games go on sale?
They pushed a button and made it so! They've only been putting their entire lineup on sale every other week on PSN for three months.

Picked up Mutant Mudds (was debating between 3DS and WiiU version, went with 3DS.) This is really fun... thinking about getting Cave Story too, and Steamworld Dig or VVVVV.  I wish Mighty Switch Force was on sale (and again..debate between 3DS and Wii U..they really need crossplay.) Also picked up Starship Damrey but haven't played it yet.

Never really bought any games on eshop besides VC ones and realize I'm missing out now even if some of these can also be bought on Steam or Wii U.

Code of Princess or Etrian Odyssey 4?

I know they are different types of games but of the two is there one you'd rather have digitally on the console over the other?

Personally Code of Princess is probably the only 3DS game I've regretted buying so far. It's not a bad game but very repetitive and without that hook that makes it worthwhile. That's my take at least.

Can't you use the d-pad on the 3DS, though? That said, I bet it looks awesome on the Vita's screen. I already have the 3DS version and should just stick with it, but when there are sales, I am a chronic double- (sometimes triple-)dipper :/
Yes, you can definitely use the D-Pad on the 3DS to play Mutant Mudds. I don't understand the point in criticising the circle pad when the D-Pad is there for the using.
Right you are, I'd forgotten the d-pad works too. The reason I forgot was because the d-pad's placement makes it kind of uncomfortable for me over long periods, and I find myself alternating between the two (on games that support it) so my thumb doesn't get too cramped. It's less obnoxious on the XL, but on my original 3DS the d-pad's location made holding the system kind of awkward after awhile. I realize this will be a YMMV situation since everyone is different.

Point still stands, I'd rather play it on the Vita due to the unforgiving precision required for some of the platforming in Mudds.

Pushmo or Crashmo dudes? I've got 8 virtual dollars burning a hole in my e-wallet.
I think I prefer Pushmo over Crashmo too. Even though Pushmo is super easy for the like 6 or 7 stages it becomes addicting toward the end making you want more... then you'll buy Crashmo. If you are into making your own levels Pushmo is friendlier, to make a good Crashmo level requires more time planning than I want to commit.

Crashmo is a lot trickier that Pushmo. You can mess up easily and the puzzles can take quite a while to complete. It's a whole different way of thinking compared to the first game. And I could have sworn that Crashmo went on sale a week after I bought it. I would buy Pushmo now and then pick up Crashmo if/when it goes on sale again.

And don't forget to search online for QR codes for user created puzzles.

I'd imagine so. The main set of puzzles has 35 pages of 16 puzzles each for about 560 puzzles with a bunch of harder puzzles that you unlock as you work your way through the main set. However, it's not all word puzzles, as there are things like Sudoku, picture puzzles, and some other weird things I had never heard of before. The thing I think it does really well is the hint/help option where you can spend the coins you earn to get some help with puzzles if you're really stumped.

My favorite set of puzzles are these Link-A-Pix puzzles that are sort of a spin-off of Picross where you end up drawing lines of different colors to create an image at the end.
Thank you. I've tried a few of the puzzles so far and I'm really enjoying it. Crosswords works pretty smoothly. I'll have to google some of the other games to get a better understanding of how they're played. It's a solid purchase for puzzle fans.

The SMT IV DLC is also on sale again for those who are interested. Note that you cannot purchase the DLC from the eShop. The content must be bought through the store you access from the title menu. It appears to be around 40% off, though I've never really known the standard prices so I may be mistaken.

Devil Survivor Overclocked is a great SRPG. Good buy at $20.
I really love it. The DS version was really special to me, so I have an odd nostalgic thing about it, but it really is a good game. The difficulty spikes that annoyed me senseless in the original are mitigated by the ability to choose an easy mode if desired.

I know they are different types of games but of the two is there one you'd rather have digitally on the console over the other?
Both! But, that said, EOIV is a great game. Code of Princess is not a great game. I'm a sucker for side-scrolling beat'em'ups, though, and it adds in RPG elements. It's not as good as Guardian Heroes, but I don't think even Guardian Heroes is as good as Guardian Heroes.

It does look happy, and looks/sounds fun in theory, but after reading reviews, it sounds kind of awful.

I think it was this game on the DS that really forged my SMT mastery. The ending sequence of battles in devil survivor 1 was utterly ridiculous. Took some serious strategy to finish those bastards off. I wasn't as troubled by the sequels ending, but I came prepared for all out war since I was familiar with their treachery.

I never actually finished it (though I seem to play it every July!). I originally gave up on one of the obnoxious escort missions, either protecting civilians or making sure someone didn't die or doing something within a certain number of turns... or something. :) Easy mode for me.

I'm still waiting/hoping for the 3DS version of 2 before I open my DS copy or play it.

Any suggestions on which are worthwhile?

Clipped Wings 1 and 2 are probably worthwhile.  I'm not sure about Ancient One or Eternal Youth or the other story quests, but probably.

The ones that make grinding easier are probably not worthwhile unless you are into that kind of thing (in which case they would be).  I've heard the ones that allow you to get special items are not worthwhile either.

So, the story-related ones should be worthwhile, but hopefully someone else can confirm.

The "i" button on there should help explain it a bit better, though Takegaki still doesn't really make much sense to me. I end up just using coins to auto-fill a bunch of lines and then finish it up myself.

The exp and money DLC is the only two I found useful, lets you level up your demons very easy and of course get money. Makes the game very very easy though as you can jump to max level within an hour or two.

So the extra quests aren't worth bothering about?

fuck it after picking up another $50 eshop card from BBY I picked up Code of princess and EO IV.
Buy the rest of the Atlus catalog too!

I went the opposite direction. No interest in the money/exp DLC, but I bought the extra storyline quests. I did not buy the delivery mission ones that give extra items though.

I'm sure Frisky mentioned it, because he always has and I've just overlooked it, but both Might Switch Force games are $4.49 on the eShop through 1/2.  I know someone had said about wanting those to go on sale the other day.

Edit- There's also a sale on certain Ubi games for $20.99 but can't throw up the list right now.

I'm guessing you can buy the SMT DLC for the cart based game and not just the digital version?  I was able to grab it on Amazon for less than the digital price so I can at least get some money back after.

I know this is off topic so I was wondering because of an nintendo update,

we can now transfer our games as much as we want or did I not understand it correctly?

Is the Wii U eshop down for anyone else?
I'm having trouble getting onto the eShop on my 3ds. This might be a good thing. I'm wanting to buy Etrian Odyssey IV but something is making me have second thoughts. I've played the demo and enjoyed it. I think it's the fact that the game isn't very story-driven.

Edit: It looks like The Millennium Girl might be more up my alley. Is $30 a good price point?
