Ugh, has Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies ever been on sale? It's pretty much the only thing I want from the eShop at the moment and I don't think I've ever seen it on sale.
Normal price for iOS is cheaper than the sale and has been on sale much cheaper in the past -- having played through the first four games on the DS, I would consider the iPad the better experience.

I don't play games on Ipad because my father had an active role in my life but from what I've seen, and not from actual experience, DD actually does look pretty dang good on Ipad. If you can get the DLC case there it would be a worthwhile choice easily if you can stomach having AA on a tablet.

While you're at it, GET GHOST TRICK ON YOUR IPAD. GHOST TRICK IS THAT GOOD.

Yes, the DLC case is on iOS. Just finished playing through last weekend.

Anyone wanting Ghost Trick it's $18 on Amazon for the DS original.  To me, I'd rather have a cart of a game than digital... but if a game is digital only or just too good a deal to resists versus getting a physical copy then I want to know there's some protection for my purchases.   That's part of why I gave up on iOS gaming after being pretty hardcore into it for a couple years.  There was just no consumer protection at all.  Granted I'd trust Capcom more than most... but even big companies like Sega, SquareEnix, & Rockstar have pulled games due to incompatibility with new hardware or iOS versions... or just because they didn't want to sell them anymore.   Digging through a couple thousand purchases (free, paid, a few freemiums) over a few years as an iOS gamer to find GTA Chinatown Wars or TWEWY or Afterburner Climax or whatever became too big of a headache during the times they were pulled from the store.

So just beware that what you own today on iOS may not be there in the future.

I had no issue paying $20 for it in physical form. 25% off for the digital version seems pretty common for Atlus sales... it takes a while before they do a really good discount.
They just spent the last couple months dropping all of their other older titles (EO4, EOU, DSO, Soul Hackers, etc) to $9.99 sale prices. I've been waiting for SMTIV to hit the same price, and I'll keep waiting until it happens.

Pokemon Picross - Free to Start

I really was hoping this was like the  rumble world where you could just let the game sit and play it    BUT  how i understand it (or im missing something)  There is no way to play this for  FREE cause once you use your crystals there is no way to get more  FREE ONES  you must keep buying ...... if this is right  thumbs  way down on this game

Played a bit of Pokemon Picross. They assume you've never played Picross before, so it has a very slow start as some Professor talks on and on and on and on about how Picross works while I just skip through it as much as possible. It has all of the dumb Pokemon stuff you'd expect with collecting them by completing certain puzzles and having an ability that you can activate at the start of a puzzle as a form of "cheat", which I think has a cooldown.

They only have a few 5x5 puzzles before it moves to 10x10 when you get some freedom to not be lectured. There are a few challenges for each puzzle with some requiring that you use a Pokemon's ability with the ultimate challenge being to do everything in one play, so that's disappointing as a Picross fan that just wants more Picross and doesn't need any helpers. It seems like Free Mode is on by default, which means that you're not punished with time penalties for mistakes even when you're just setting down X's to figure out the easiest dots you can confirm on the puzzle. The great Micross puzzles from the Picross e games return as Murals, which requires you to get Mural drops from completing puzzles to do a quick 10x10 puzzle on the full 8x8 grid of puzzles to form a larger picture. There are two of these Murals.

There is an in-game currency called Pictrites that you can use to equip more Pokemon in your party, purchase the ability to play the next set of puzzles, upgrade or refill your energy gauge, and probably some other things I haven't seen yet. You get some Picrites for completing puzzles (up to six from challenges), earning achievements/medals (three each), and whenever the Professor feels like being generous. After the tutorial stuff, it seems like they are drip fed with each puzzle seeming to give me less than 10 Picrites. I had about 250 at my peak after the tutorial. If you buy 5000 Picrites, your Picrites are free from then on. The cost of Picrites from the eShop:

200 - $0.99 - Special Offer

800 - $3.99 - Special Offer

200 - $1.49

1000 - $6.99

2000 - $12.99

4000 - $24.99

With the special offers, it would cost about $30 to basically unlock the full game with unlimited Picrites to open up new areas, fully upgrade the energy bar (detailed below) to unlimited, and open up all of the Pokemon equip slots. It'll be $32 after that offer ends. Compare this to the non-microtransaction Picross eShop games that are $6 each with at least 150 puzzles to enjoy at your leisure.

As mentioned earlier, there's an Energy Gauge to gate your ability to play the game. Every puzzle costs a set amount of Energy to play it that is deducted from your total. You can also spend Picrites to extend the gauge with the first being forced by the Professor, who gives you the 50 Picrites to cover the cost. There are five upgrades for the Energy Gauge and it seems that if you fully upgrade it, the Energy limits are removed. It's 50 for level one, 100 for level two, and 150 for level three from what I can see so far. Puzzles seem to cost about 40-60 energy early on with the level one (tutorial) upgrade puts you at 200 energy. You can pay Picrites to refill the bar or wait and my nearly depleted 200 energy bar would require a three hour break to naturally fill up, which seems like a one energy to one minute ratio. That means a 60 energy puzzle requires an hour to recover that cost, which is ridiculous for a puzzle I tend to beat in a minute or so.

There's definitely an energy penalty for guessing wildly.  I hit 0 energy in a puzzle, I only had like 2 energy left anyway, and couldn't fill more spaces and the game hounded me to pay the premium currency to fill the bar back up.  Balls to that, I quit the puzzle and can wait for the refill.

I think you can get more free premium currency in a sort of daily challenge, but I imagine it's absurdly slow.

I am new to the eShop; and have $0 in my wallet(?). Whats the best way to go about spending your real money (or in my case GS /BBY giftcards) to get monies into my e-wallet?

It's similar to the regular puzzles, so less than 10.

Played a bit of Pokemon Picross and it's pretty fun, a big fan of Picross for the DS so this and Pokemon Shuffle (448 hours yikes) eat my free time. I don't mind the whole energy eating per piece placed, if you are good at Picross you don't have to worry about making mistakes and really it doesn't hurt unless you suck at Picross then good luck with that.

Plus, with physical, you own a tangible item that you can use at your discretion. With digital, you "own" a license that is tied to a specific account. If you ever need to change accounts or have an account issue (like I have had with iOS), good luck getting your digital license transfered by the publisher, app developer or console creator. Most likely, you will be shit out of luck and get burned on the digital purchase. Digital gives complete control to the content owner to do what they want, when they want.

You use about an hour's worth of energy just to play a two minute puzzle, so good Picross players are punished severely either way. It's also really easy to run out of Picrites and have to pay to keep playing if you spend money on energy upgrades or Pokemon slots, which is typical bad mobile gaming BS.

Not sure why people are wasting their time with Pokemon Picross when there are Super Mario World badges in the Badge Arcade today !!!  :D/  :joystick:  :whee:

I play badge arcade everyday, but I hate it. Pokemon Picross is great, but I've never played Picross before. I clear the practice badges, sometimes even 1.5-2 times, and I don't get the special one that gives me multiple plays. I'll get one for 10+ practice badges, but that's it. Then, you can't get the "good" badges with one play, and you can't save free plays. Ugh. All that, plus the time it takes to load, and it's infuriating. But I still play it....

I don't mind the down time between puzzles, but yeah I can see Picrites being a problem progressing forward. I'll start complaining when I hit a wall or something.

Steamworld Heist is out next week for $19.99 with a 15% discount until 12/31 ($16.99) and all purchases this month get a free theme with it.

Nice find! I loved SteamWorld Dig on Vita.  Not sure I'll be able to hold out for the Vita version of Heist and will probably cave in and buy it on 3DS first.

Agree with Randy Raccoon on this one. I just downloaded and played the game and ran out of Picrites after clearing the first two worlds in about 20 minutes. It offers a fun twist on Picross titles with powerups and such, but it's too easy to run out of moves and currency and be forced to either wait or buy them. I paid for the max amount of diamonds in Rumble World so I could get the special balloon passes and 40 extra diamonds per day, which I now regret. I didn't pay for Shuffle, and I probably won't pay for Picross--the way the games are, there likely won't be a definite way to beat them anytime soon.

Also, some Pokemon Picross passwords cross-posted from Gamefaqs:

If you like Pokemon Picross, I'd suggest checking out the Picross e games on the eShop for $6 each. For the cost of unlocking Pokemon Picross fully, you can get five of the six Picross e games and not have to deal with energy bars, currencies, and all that.

But they don't have cute Pokemon pictures to make!

I fully understand why they did it this way but really wish they would have just made it a $30 title from the start and skipped all the nonsense.

Really because today's Mario scored me 5! free plays in addition to the 1 they gave me! That was 2 whole Mario levels worth of badges for FREE!!!!
Caught ya! You've just admitting to stealing all of the known free plays in the western hemisphere. No one individual should be lucky enough to earn 5 free plays from the practice catcher!

Edit: The most I've ever gotten from the practice catcher was 2 free plays from somewhere around 14 badges. Nintendo hates me.

The pictures aren't exactly that great either, as all of the pokemon I've seen are just low-res faces compared to the regular Picross games where half the fun is trying to guess what you're making before it's done.

I also got 5 free plays today ;)
I also got 5+1 free plays today. Got the one the rabbit generously gave me to start, then I managed to clear the Mario practice catcher with 23 badges caught. I was able to clear the stage in 4 tries, then when it reset, by a stroke of blind luck, I was able to make ALL the badges tumble down with just one move.

Got that big Bowser and all badges in that stage except the pipe. Some Pokemon birds too.

at a glance I thought the thread title said "$5 Paizuri" and I got really excited for a second before I realized Nintendo would not allow that on the eshop.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't do the same thing.

Okay; the Mario World badges are gonna be around for a few more days, right? Because I've never been this tempted to buy more plays before. I've never done it up until now, but it's freakin' Mario World.

Booting up Picross today was kind of exciting. That puzzle was harder than anything I'd encountered so far in the game, and none of my Pokemon could help me. It was satisfying to solve it on my own, though.

With my gift free play and the one I won with the Practice Catcher, I managed to get all the badges in the stage with the capped Mario. Makes me want to buy that theme offer. I'm down to less than $1 on eShop though. I've already given them $2 for that other theme and 10 plays, but these themes with plays are pretty tempting...

Oh, I forgot about the complementing theme..

Aw, eff it. I'm gonna put down two bucks and get as much as I can. (Although I could actually make my own themes...)
