Any 60GB owners out there, if your PS3 does not make a 3rd gear fan sound during any Blu Ray, PS2, or DVD movies, what is your PS3's first three serial number?
 
Is your PS3 vertical? Mine is horizontal and it gets way more dust on top than on the side where the HDD goes for obvious reasons. Unless space is a major issue I don't understand anyone willingly putting it in vertical. The vents will be on top facing the ceiling and way more dust will go through the vents than it would horizontal IMO. This could be an issue with overheating or increased fan speed possibly.

Also some people have their PS3's in closed in spaces. My 60GB is horizontal and on top of a desk/table and I have no issues. Watched about 2 hours of blu-ray today and it stayed in the 2nd lowest fan setting. Mine has gone into 3rd before but it's not common, mostly with some PS3 games I think.
 
Mine is pretty silent, goes from quiet to, I suppose, one fan or maybe two but it's only noticeable if I have nothing on. No game, music or tv.
 
Mine does it every now and then, but then again I've been playing my tripple nonstop lately and it's been really really hot out.
