A Warning On The Free Magazine Deals

Have you seen that episode of King of the Hill when Hank starts getting a bunch of porn that he didn't want/order in the mail? Well, I think it is starting to happen to me.

I sign up for a lot of free magazine subscriptions thanks to CAG (EGM, GamePro, Tips & Tricks, OXM, XBN, Stuff, FHM, Play, Giant) and I'm 99% sure that these free signup places are selling my address. Specifically, either Stuff or FHM or both. I don't think Freebizmag is the culprit, but whoever I signed up with to get Stuff is seriously screwing me over.

A couple of months ago I got a postcard advertising a "free adult video" and then a couple weeks after that the company actually called me (even though I don't actually remember giving out my home phone number for any of these things). And now, just today, I got a fucking porn movie catalog from some website I have never been to.

So, I guess this post is both a rant and a warning. Be careful when you sign up for free shit.

haha well i have them sent to my aparment and to my moms house (because most of the time i only get one sub to work) if they sent porn ads here, it would be super funny, im sure my roomates and i would hang them up...if they sent them to my moms house...it would be even funnier XoD
 
heh. I get the stuff at my mom's house as well, so the porn would be sent there. I think that'd be hilarious. The only magazines I get copies of are Stuff, Blender, Gamepro, and GMR.

I should start getting XBN soon.. I did trades for Larry
and got a free 12 month subscription from EB.. so I'm set for the next two years..
 
I'm getting those cards too. Think about it though, most places are very flexible on what they call "privacy" policies. I think it's funny that I'm entitled to a "free" bonus video from a free magazine subscription. Hell I sometimes get phone calls about them...
 
This is what I love about dorms. I'll be out of here next year, most subs will end by then, so any porn sent here will stay here. Hell, I'm getting mail for the guy who lived here last year...
 
The only magazine that I have a subscription to that I don't want is "Hollywood Life", a kind of poor man's "Us" magazine. No idea how I got it. I'd prefer the porn.
 
Why is this a problem? Who cares unless your under 18. If you are then you most likely said your 18 or up when signing up.
 
I did get a card for some free adult video (had a hot chick on the card)

That was about it.

But I stau away from freebizmag deals, so maybe my address isn't everywhere.


What I do get though are those bills for magazine renewels. They aren't really bills, but they look like them.

I got that too. Playboy's been after me a lot to get a sub. I didn't even sign up for 2 free issues that I listed in Magazine section. I signed my friend up, and since he has no phone, no one is gonna call up.

This is how I do it

1111 Main St Apt E

The E is for EGM. Get it? That way you can track who they sell their list to. It only works if you have a straight up address without an apt number to begin with.

Haha, coincidentally this was the episdoe shown about 2 hours ago on my WB affiliate. Yeah, Hank get tapes sent to him "From a friend" (which is really Bill, who detests porn throughout the episode) and Hank studies the tapes and frees himself with some age loophole. Funny stuff.

I just got Dec. 2004 Playboy w/Denise Richards in the mail today and I don't even have a subscription to it, nor have I signed up for anything lately.

It's like finding a $20 in an emergency space in your house that you forgot about.
