Advance Wars: Days of Ruin - General Discussion - Release Date Jan. 21 2008!!!

Well my plan is to just protect HQ by filling in the gap by the bridge by the second factory using ground units than just building up a squad of Battleships and get a couple of infantries onto a lander and have the Battleships escort the Lander to the enemy HQ after clearing any ground units using the battleships than just having the battleships attack any units that get near my infantry while it's taking over their HQ.

Finally beat campaign... I swear that last mission throws every common sense war tatic you learn out the window. I had to rely on a
infantry wall

I also added everyone on the front page

Edit:
First online public multiplayer game was an awkward draw for me, even though i shoulda won. I played Wing Cape with someone on snow weather and victory day limit was 20. Is seems almost impossible to do with snow wether let alone the 5k income per turn.

Does anyone have any tips for T35 - Center River? I've tried it about 6 times now and the enemy indirect units are just too damn powerful to crack. It also seems like it starts them off with a few medium tanks and rockets, for extra frustration. Once those missles get to Veteran status, it's impossible to even get across any of the bridges.

I've had the most luck with spreading forces between the top and bottom bridges, and using missles to keep infantry out of the center island, but the CPU seems to just respond to quickly to allow me to get far enough on either side. Anyone finished this map? thanks for the input.
I just beat campaign mode, it's not that difficult if plan out a strategy. The last stage you will encounter five lasers, bombardment of bombs that can't be destroyed and enemies keep spawning. If place your units in right spot, you can avoid most of devastating attack. To stop the spawn, start camping your strongest units near the entry point along with the commander field ability, you can rake up easy kills and level up your units in no time. Beat it in 10-12 turns.

The hard part in this game are those trial maps. Those maps just as hard as hard mode in Advance Wars Dual Strike . A smart aggressive AI with the combination of fog of war, it makes you start to second guess your strategy. The AI mindset will quickly adjust to your play style.
you can only level up to 3 right?

i would love to see a game like this use pure RPG tactics. where you have hps .

if this game you could level up i would of got it in a second. Instead i just rented it off gamefly

I can see it now... Infantry gets 10+ kills and suddenly mows down a fresh wartank.

There are these types of game, go get Fire Emblem.

Yes that was a tough one.
I don't recalled exactly what i did but i did get a 310 pt S rank in 23 days/turn.
First off, send some bikes to the middle islands and try to capture those cities first.
The cities near your base are easy to get to so you can capture them later with spare infantry.
The player that controls the island first has the upperhand.
You basically want to be the king of the hill(island) for the whole mission.
When you get some territories up there send in a tank or two asap to block off the island's bridge on the enemies side. if your tank is hurt bring it back to one of your city to heal and then bring the next tank up.
Rinse and repeat that so you don't lose alot of units.
Have recons or cheap units there too for sacrifices, in case you lose a tank and there no unit to block the enemy from coming it.
Make sure your tank is on the bridge or one square behind it so that it cant be hit on all three sides and just the front.
Get an artillery unit up ASAP to guard the front tank unit, set it right behind the tank so you can hit whatever hits the tank.
When you can bring up some war tanks with rockets/anti-tanks to upgrade the defense there.
Some mechs will try to cross into the city right above the mountain on the island, make sure you leave that city clear so that when they go on it your unit on the city on its immediate left will see it left.

At the same time send a tank or two to the top forests to guard the top, they wont see you in the fog and when they run into you, hit them back.
Remember to Capture all cities around you HQ too ....
After awhile you should have more money and units then the AI because you have most of the cities.
Attack from the bottom, bring in tanks, indirects and a Rig with a soldier in it. surround and shield the enemy HQ and capture it.

Thats what i can think of just on top of my head, hope it helped.

You can't be serious, are you? That maps is incredibly easy because you can get a perfect 450 in 5 days.

Turn 1- Build a rig on southern factory and infantry on left factory.

Turn 2- Move your infantry on rig. Move rig 2 spaces down and 4 spaces to right. Build a Anti Air Unit on any of factories.

Turn 3- Move the rig 1 space down and 5 space right. Drop your infantry to right square. Move the Anti Air towards the Middle Bridge, which is one space apart from the middle bridge.

Turn 4- Use your infantry to capture the enemy headquarters. Position the Rig north side of infantry. As for the Anti Air, move it towards the second middle bridge (2 right,2 down,2 right)

Turn 5- Save your game. Move Anti Air 2 spaces to right and 2 space to the north to kill infantry in one attack to get perfect power. If you can't kill it in one turn, quit and load. After you killed the infantry, capture the enemy headquarters for easy victory.

Damn :bomb: lol i just followed your guide and it worked.... well you can forget my guide then haha. making me look stupid ....:whistle2:#

so far the only other perfect 450pt map i have got was 37 Fire and Water.

well, that worked fast! Thanks for the help. I never thought to approach it from a rush to the HQ angle. I thought that it just started the enemy off with medium tanks and such.

Just got the game 3 days ago. I don't know if it's cause I was weaned on all 3 advance wars and all 3 fire emblems but this game's campaign mode is super easy. I've beaten 25 rounds with ease in a day and a half, and gotten 18 S ranks and 3 A ranks, 2 B Ranks and 2 C ranks, Campaign 22 I think, gave me problems and now I'm at the last level and it's a fucking bitch. I spent more time at the last round, which I still haven't beat than all 25 rounds! Any hints? Gamefaqs has no gamefaqs. This level is crazy. The guy spawns infinite units and throws 5 lasers at you and a megabomb. It's a massacre after 3 days and if you make one mistake it's over.

Here are some more perfect guides. Some maps are impossible to get a perfect score due to short amount of time or troops aren't strong enough for instant kill. Almost got a perfect score on t41 comb map and t22 peril maze, but I was a few points shy. At least, I know that is possible to get perfect score on those map. I won't go in exact details on that maps because those maps involves beating multiple AI at once and turns involve in 17-25 phase. Even if I get a perfect score on those maps, I need to replay them at least 5 times to make sure that same strategy is guarantee to work.

Man, I really want to buy this, but with my birthday coming up soon, I'm under strict orders to not buy myself anything until after that. Argh ... sounds as awesome as I'd expect, though.

I beat the last stage,C26 Sunrise, again in 6 turns. My total score is 410(133 speed, 150 power and Tech 127) for that stage. I think it's impossible to get perfect score. Come on, six turns with 133 speed. I will retry using the same strategy for that stage. If it work most of time, I provide a step by step strategy on how to beat that stage.

Edit- I hope I didn't make too many mistakes typing it. To much steps to follow through.

C26 Sunrise - Score Around 400's, 6 days
thanks. Your faq has some mistakes but I was able to improvise and beat it in 7 days. I didn't even know there was a CO power thing. This game's campaign was really weird cause you didn't need the CO power thing until the very end of the game.

WTF! ... what kind of gay shit is this.
I was just playing on wifi ransom match for the 4th time.
This time i managed to get pretty far into the battle without the other guy DCing on me.
But then when 30 days hit "Maximum number of days has reached, the match is over"
Are you fucking kidding me?
Why on god's green earth is there a days limit on a AW game.
Unless im fighting against a really bad noob player, i expect it to take awhile to finally win or lose.
I know theres probably no limits for Friend battle but there shouldnt be one for random matches either.
Right when the battle was getting good, i had 3 seaplanes out on the great lake map (no airports in map) and i was sure i was gonna get victory soon.
But there that goes.

Ohh and the real kicker, when the game ended ..... it said i lost!
I was doing better in the game IMO, but i still lost.
Safe to say im not playing random matches again, when i can't even finish the fucking thing.

Ha nevermind. I found it right after I posted that. It never occurred to me to look on the top screen. Awesome game though!

Anyone here know a good emulator for this game?

I want to upload better quality videos of this game on youtube then my web cam. The ones I tried are either too slow or don't work at all.

FInally beat C14, don't know what I did so different but it was a TON easier (I think it's because I approached from both the east island and the main land).

I'm having a bit of trouble with C17 but I have a new strategy that hopefully works.

lol...game's diaglouge is great

I'm not too far, but if you don't want to be spoiled click elsewhere
boy meets girl, boy gives girl flower, boy names girl...haha
Finally beat Dual Strike so I craked open DoR./quote]

So fair (Im on lvl 20) I think Dual Strike was harder then DoR. It might be that after playing every advance wars game I have finally learned good tactics though...

Well, I'm about to go on a cross-country flight and I just unwrapped AW and charged up my dead DS so I'm set.

Only problem is I'm stuck in a middle seat (got the ticket 3 weeks ago too - only middles available then and now there are NO free seats!). I didn't realize at the time that the fucking Super Bowl was the day before my flight and in Phoenix :bomb:. I'm flying through Phoenix so it is the long-ass Phoenix-DC flight that I'm stuck in the middle. Dammit - that will probably make it akward and uncomfortable to play the DS. I guess I'll just watch whatever movie it is and hold my breath during that part. Then I'll play when I get to the hotel tomorrow night ;). Anyway, FC coming as soon as I hook it up.

I think Dual Strike was much much harder in general so far...I am on mission 14 or so on DoR so I still have a bit to go.

The bottom line though, GS justified giving this game a full point lower score because of its "intense hardness" yet I feel if you have brains in your head and actually know how to play an AW game (I have played the ever loving crap out of 1 +2, and spent alot of time on DS), then it is a challening but satisfying game. Its quite simple, always move your units in a pack with a tank or mech in front, followed by an artillery or rockets, surrounded with anti air or more tanks. I have yet to throw my DS in frustration.

Also, I added the last 2 friend codes to the front page!

argh! stuck on C14!! I have already given up 3 times...

and each time it's coz I make a mistake at the beginning by losing my submarine before it can cause damage!!!

anyway, I'm still too scared to try Wi Fi... reading a lot of boards it seems that everybody has mad skillz at this game...

everybody but me!!!

Don't fear the Reaper... or the Wifi! I don't think I'm super-awesome, either, but I'm really excited to play some folks online. I'll battle with you sometime, Jekki. Post up your FC. :)

Jekki, the best plan is to first take out his battleship than take out his carrier with your submarine. It will make it TONS easier. Make sure you buy a battleship or two. When you have a pretty high amount of units ready to attack on both sides ( by the mountains out of the rocket's ranger and by the three cities) use bombers to take out the rocket after destroying the meterorite and lead a full out attack with a bicycle ready to capture their HQ.

If you have an adequte amount of units before leading your strike, you'll fail. Just lead a defensive strategy until a meteor is destroyed (I suggest the right one) and the rocket is destroyed.

thanx for that advice man, it's something I learn from yet another loss on that stage!!

I was playing for like over an hour last nite... sitting on my bed...

afterwards my back was hurting and in the morning I was late for work!!!

and my back was still hurting!!

but yah... gotta try again.

I'm on C10 and I've just been going back and redoing my earlier missions to get S rankings in them using different strategies. It's extremely fun and I'm very impressed with how much I'm liking the game considering I didn't care for the other advance wars games.

Finished the AW : Dual Strike campaign with an "S" ranking just now..

I really enjoyed this game.

I'll wait to see if I win the contest before I go out and pick up AW : Days of Ruin

ARGH I've been AWOL for like 3 weeks, haven't been keeping up at all. This and Professor Layton and Apollo Justice coming out so close together....
I can't believe I got an S ranking on Ca10 after I lost nearly half my units and it took 17 days.
lol,it took me 89 days to beat I think it was level 20.Took fucken forever!Really really good game!

I don't know, it seems this is harder than Dual Strike. But maybe I just forgot how to play ;). I'm barely scraping by in some of these missions though... Love the game of course though. I'll sink a few hours into it tonight before bed and then ALL DAY tomorrow while flying home. I'm actually looking forward to my flights because of that! I mean, hell, I get paid to play Advance Wars when I'm flying for work - awesome!

Campaign missions are a breeze so far (I'm on 17 I think)...had trouble with one of them but I beat it after a few tries.

The TRAINING MISSIONS...on the other hand....good god...

I've played every post-NES AW game and I've never had this much trouble. Good lord, the regular metro training map makes my blood boil
