Advice on PS2 Slim Console?

My PS2 Slim is dying on me. Lots of grinding/scratching sounds, overheating and shutting itself off, etc. I've poked around a bit, looking for information on replacing it (I'm terrible at repairs), but can't seem to get a straight answer. The one I have now is an SCPH-70001.

What's the most reliable model of this console, and where can I get the best deal? I've looked on eBay but many sellers don't even note the model number.

The only one I know is distinctly different is the 90001, its a late model release, so its going to be the newest, they're easy to spot, instead of the glossy strip they have a whole side that's glossy, I don't know of theyre more reliable or not though.
