You don't need Prime. It's free to sign up. I don't know if this offer is still active but when I signed up, it gave me 3 months of free Prime shipping (the only things that Prime adds is Instant Video access and account sharing).

They run gift card offers sometimes (buy a giftcard, get $X credit) but I think the offer only works if you get the email advertising it.
