Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Have any of you been able to get Dark Souls to even work on your PC? I haven't been able to save anything because it won't let me use GFWL and I can't find anything useful about the problem on the internet. The game itself acts like GFWL doesn't exist (never gives me the option to use it anywhere and the "Live" button on the main menu does jack shit) but always tells me I can't save unless I log into my account (which I can't do, if that wasn't made abundantly clear).

I mean, I only paid $2.50 for it, but I'm about to resort to less than scrupulous methods and look up ways to bypass GFWL because nothing works.
if you have Windows 8, you have to run the manual installer for GfWL in compatibility mode and as admin. You'll probably have to unistall existing versions first.

There are still some out there who doubt the closure of GfWL due to a lack of official message from Microsoft (other than the quickly withdrawn AoE page). The fact they can't be bothered to make it work properly on their current OS is as good an indicator as any to me that it's done.

Here's a link to the manual installer you are looking for...

Note: Terms of Service for Xbox Live were updated in Oct 2013... If you haven't agreed to them you're likely to get a bunch of issues without ever being told why. (Installing the above and logging into it via the actually window app and not a game should trigger the read/heed/and agree option that you might be needing.)

I always sort of felt that the hate for GfWL was overblown... but after just spending a good bulk of time trying to troubleshoot why my 360 (wired) controller wouldn't work (minus the center guide button) in DS but would in all my other (non GfWL) games I own I finally figure out what it was... My Razer Orbweaver. Unplugged it and everything started working again.

Granted, Kane and Lynch Dead Men isn't working now and I played it 3 weeks ago with no issues... (Now it seems to try to load the game twice with a simple click on play from within steam. App already running. but its a game with serious USB issues so I suspect something Orbweaver has gotten in the way... Oh, well, not going to even try to fix it.)

Lastly...

Does anyone know how to disable a device in Windows 8.1? I would much prefer to just disable my Orbweaver when going into Dark Souls instead of reaching behind my PC and pulling out the USB cable.

Should be able to on the driver tab for the device in device manager.

Good tip about the terms of service too. I remember that leaving me stuck for a while at one point.

The whole risk to your save games issue is the reason I dislike GfWL. The whole online/offline/encrypted thing. I've lost saves form at least two games. And I'm generally tolerant of DRM. I don't give a damn if a game has activation limits or is always online. But I do hate GfWL. :D

Device manager/right-click item/disable.
Damn, I knew that... I mean I knew that from previous version of windows but why its freaking buried and I cannot disable something while looking at it under their device window inside the control panel is beyond me... I see the option but its greyed out. (sigh... I love you MS.)

I hear you on all that... I lost a DoW II save... and expected to lose it again when I swapped to my new PC... but it was actually still there. I transferred stuff via a game save and copied my whole steam directory. (As temperamental as GfWL is I'm still shocked about that working._

Windows 8.1 works the same way as previous versions pretty much throughout. It's just an issue of figuring out how the hell to get places that can be problematic at first. :)

Damn, Origin gives away the Sims 3 Town Life stuff pack for free, then Humble bundles the Ace Patrol games as part of the current $1 tier... two wasted EC coupons :(

Did someone say spodering Ace Patrols links?  Mentioned in the Steam thread but it's interesting that these are 2K published games... oh ye of little faith not thinking Bioshock Infinite will end up in one.

I didn't buy Bioshock Infinite (got it from an LN key drop), so it'll never be bundled. ;)

I'm surprised the complaints are on "wasting" an EC coupon... rather than the dollar spent.
wat. My complaint was for the dollar spent, not wasting a coupon.

Well, an EC coupon = 5 dollars > $1 ;) Also, rather than a complaint, it is a lament (because there is no one to complaint to, it's just spoder-luck)

If not for the kindness of Motoki I would have missed the Hitman Absolution and Enslaved/Inversion deals. Damn my lack of future sight!

Well, the sims 3 town life stuff thing pack was 5 bucks after coupon, so yeah, that one does hurt me :( but Sims 3 things are so rarely on sale it's hard to let them pass at %75 off

Well I can see why people would be a little upset about the current situation with Ace Patrol and Sims, I'm not. Don't feel I wasted anything.

Sweet, thank you. Redeemed it to my Origin account ;)

Edit: Well I think I did anyway. EA's multiple account shazbah is a real pain in the arse.
You can merge your EA accounts. I have all mine under one 'master' account. Don't ask me how you do it though... I did it years ago. :D

I'm actually happy that I bought the Ace Patrol Pack with my EC coupon. Those were the only two that I'm missing from the entire bundle.

I saved a penny.

I guess I am sad, though, for everyone that wasn't able to spoder my extras from the hypothetical bundle I did not buy.

And you got to "stick it" to Charity.

Tony,

Please match Steams mid week Don't Starve deal.

Missed this in the pre Christmas sales and want to give this a try.

Thanks.

Tony, now that the holiday madness is mostly behind, how about some requests for upcoming sales?  Any chance of Activision dropping CoD: WaW back down to $9.99 again?  I've somehow missed it the few times it's hit that price point.  Also, I'd like to see State of Decay hit $7.50 or better and if you can get the Breakdown DLC from Microsoft, I might bite on a bundle with that.  Though, probably no more than $9.99 for the game+DLC bundle.

Its showings as €14.99 for me.
If you have a registered account they should be sending you an e-mail titled "VIP News February: Redeem Your Gift!". I was in the same boat as you, as every time I want to the origin store it told me the game cost 14,99 € and that it is unavailable for me at TheSims.com. However, I just received an e-mail that provided me with a link to TheSims.com where I just logged in and it automatically added it to my account upon verification that I own one of the three base games for The Sims 3. If it doesn't show up immediately don't sweat it, as it may take up to 72 hours to appear in your "My Games" Library.

It would probably not be a bad idea for whoever first brought up the free Sims 3 DLC to make a separate post notifying people that own the base game to check their e-mail, as this promotion is only for a limited time.

Still waiting for COD: WAW + COD: Black Ops 1 bundle.

$10 or less.

I'm actually going to bite on the path of exile currency sale. I really enjoy that game and am a loot whore. I could use more storage space, give Tony some business, wait for a storage slot sale, and then support the devs. While getting a decent deal between 15% and the dev discount.
