Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

I'm actually pretty damn disappointed with the sid meier's humble bundle.  It's really not that great of a deal.  I mean you're saving cash, but not all that much compared to what you'd get in other deals.  What makes it worse is Civ V isn't even the Gold edition, so you're losing out on a ton of DLC.  The Firaxis Pack Amazon had was a far better deal, even though it didn't include BNW.  Even without it, you could get BNW for well under $10 depending on the deal.  You'd maybe save $10-$15 in total depending on where you got your stuff, compared to the $30+ you'd save in other humble bundles.  I mean you are saving, so it isn't all that bad.

It's really good value if you want Civ IV. Otherwise, yeah... not so great.

 
I accidentally bought two of the puppy games bundles.  I had a total brainfart and didn't realize i already bought it.  It was only like $5 so not that big of a deal.  And I just spent the $1 just for Civ III, until I realize I already had it.  It apparently was part of the Firaxis Pack which I didn't realize it was part of.  At least I got a new game in railroads lol  Well my mistake is a reward for you guys :p

 
So .. Indie Gala has Interstellar Marines ($1 tier) and Interstellar Marines - Spearhead Edition ($4 tier).

When you activate the Spearhead Ed you get a giftable copy of the game.

So you will also have an extra copy on your Indoe Gala profile .. seems silly. 3 copies of the game.

But anyway .. who wants a copy of Interstellar Marines :)

Funny... While I was grabbing my Pid key, I chose the "I'm already subscribed to the newsletter" button, since I am, and it told me "No you aren't". So I go back and enter my email to sign up again, and it tells me "You're already subscribed", so I go back and push the already subscribed button again, and THEN it works.

Amazon has bought Double Helix Games (Killer Instinct 2013, Silent Hill Homecoming, a couple of movie games, Strider 2014).

Tony, can we get a sweet, sweet deal on that new Strider?

 
Has anyone seen the Game of Thrones season 4 trailer? Surprisingly, I haven't seen it mentioned on any sites really.

I am anxiously awaiting a sertin dool and events on The Great Wall of Westeros.

I certainly don't mind getting Steam-versions of games for *that* kind of cheap - owned already somewhere else or not.

Seriously - if I own a DRM-FREE version or Retail disc-check version; and then can also get a Steam-version that cheap for something I really like/love and especially if it's in a Bundle w/ a bunch of other stuff (even more so true if there's other stuff I'm missing in there), chances are: I'm in.

EDIT:

Oh, if I can get a Steam-version for something cheap and back in the day it came on numerous discs (i.e. like 3 CD's/DVD's or more), good chance - I'd be interested in getting Steam-version.

I recently got Thief: Deadly Shadows (from Thief Shadows pack) + GTA Trilogy Steam-version for those reasons.

Plus, those games don't come w/ any other 3rd party DRM in their Steam-versions.

Ugh, yes. This. Yes.

Digital is obviously the way to go, and easier to replace than disks, which can get lost or damaged, and over time become more expensive to replace or maintain.

Civilization III and IV I bought disks, but it's much more convenient to have them on Steam.

As well as the Myst series.

Spore/Sims (although that's now Origin's territory)

MDK series, Fallout series, Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale series (on GOG, at least)

Dungeon Keeper series on GOG as well. I still have those on disk somewhere. (Wanted to check them out again, after the disappointing iOS version EA came out with recently, which was nothing more than timers and money-demands)

And I forgot my point to this post.

never had any of my cats do that yet (knock on wood) but have had my oldest one get bitten by a rattlesnake. that was a nervewracking 2 weeks (cats are so resilient)kept him quarantined and gave him cat antibiotics to prevent what I feared most (a secondary infection in his weakened state) after most of his flesh around the area rotted away
you could actually see his heart and left lung about 3 days after the bite

I still want my Lands of Lore games digital, only place that has em is GOG, and never on sale, and I STILL want EA to make a Lands of Lore IV gosh darn it!

I know its minor in comparison but my wife's cat keeps eating its own hair.... It'll be bald in weeks at this rate....

 
I was gonna grab the free PID, but then I got squirrelly when they wanted to link bundlestars to my Steam account.  I mean, I like bundlestars, but maybe only as friends. I'd like to see other people, like IndieGala or HumbleBundle... I don't think I'm ready for a commitment right now, BS.

Also i watched the Youtube of PID, I'll goddamn never get to it even if I live to 120.

It doesn't link your accounts. It's just an OpenID authentication.

Yes, all you are doing is authenticating through Steam (much like "login with Facebook" on many sites, but less harmful). It's to prevent people from harvesting keys with throwaway email accounts. The way they've structured it, you can only get one key for each Steam account you have.

I'm a little surprised that other sites don't use, or Steam hasn't opened it up to more sites, the ability to redeem a key straight to an account like Humble does. Using Steam accounts to authenticate probably cuts down on the hoarding quite a bit, but I'm sure there are still plenty of people willing to do what they need to in order to grab as many free keys as they can.
