Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Steam is both DRM and game-enhancement.

No client has the amount of features Steam has (Screenshot taking; Friends List; Big Picture Mode; built-in game back-up tool; game time-tracking; etc etc).

But, yes - Steam's DRM...when the EXE is wrapped w/ Steam DRM around it.

Not all games have Steam DRM wrapped around it, though.
Yeah, I totally love Steam. If a game has Steam DRM, I wouldn't know or care, because the good of Steam far outweigh anything DRM would get in the way of. Being able to have all my games in one place, both Windows and OSX versions when available (and soon Linux, even though I don't really use Linux), ready to download at any time, automatic updates, friends list, game sales, etc.

Not sure why some people despise Steam so much, when the alternatives are everything Steam isn't.

I don't know what Amazon would do if they created a game client. (Which would be awesome, by the way, especially since I have so many download games on Amazon I can't access mainly because I don't know they're available)

My guess is they wouldn't have any DRM, or if they did it would just be with an amazon account sign-in which you use to download it in the first place, so who cares?

Tony, can you make that happen? :p

Tony can make anything happen. Tony is.... Tony. There are no words to describe.

Oh is it time to finally dispose of this: Golden Jubilee Bundle

Now that's out of the way, anyone interested in these:

  • Fairy Bloom Freesia Went to Ranagard
  • Face Noir (Desura)
  • Hard Reset: Extended Edition Went to SandOfThyme
  • Nikopol
You know the drill: send me the answer, quote the post, don't be a googling monkey, etc.

Five suspects are called into police headquarters for questioning. They give the following statements.

A: "One of the five of us is lying."

B: "Two of the five of us are lying."

C: "I know these guys, and three of the five of us are lying."

D: "Don't listen to a word they say. Out of the five of us, four are lying."

E: "All five of us are dirty rotten liars!"

The police only want to release the suspects who are telling the truth. How many people should they let go?

This giveaway brought to you in part by master code dropper LN3000 ^_^

Very happy that Amazon now offers PSN game codes for sell, makes it much easier to purchase sometimes :)

I have a question or a request though.. Can we see some very nice sale of Shaun White Skateboarding code for PS3? For around $5 I'd grab it :) Or well, any decent game at a good price I could consider as well!

Man I forgot Amazon is no longer selling Steam versions of ubisoft games. Lame.
That's what I thought too, but apparently that's not the case. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has both a UPlay and Steam version available for purchase in both the Standard and Gold Editions.

Hey guys,

I'll be going through and responding to the weekend posts today/tomorrow.

Question though. Do we have enough PlayStation 4 and Vita folks in here to do a giveaway?

I've got about 30 codes for stuff to giveaway but wanted to give you guys first shot before I head over to the PS thread.

Cheers,
Tony
Hey Tony! I know your codes are gone but just wanted to chime in for these giveaways in case you decide to do them again in this thread. I own a Vita and PS3 so add 1 to your list of interested people.

Thanks for the generosity!

Does Amazon price match Green Man Gaming?

They've got Borderland 2 & DLC on sale again, and I'm finally talking myself in to getting it.

Tony, tell Amazon to price match the $200 i7-4770k processors from Microcenter... Staples is doing it online!  Don't let your homies be beat by STAPLES, bro.

You seem to have forgotten the Riptide + DLC bundle for $7.50 (or less.)
That's what i was hoping for, i already own Dead Island. Don't really want to have to buy it again just for Riptide.

Tony was the Payday 2 sale from this weekend a flash sale that i missed or are you all still putting it on sale for Thanksgiving?

Tried Riptide during its free weekend on Steam -- it's essentially more of the same.  Wouldn't really seek to buy it independently.

I do not have any of the Dead Island games. Should I hold out for a HB?

What I'm really asking is if $12 is a good value, in y'all's opinion?

Not a bad value, but if I were you, I'd wait. During the winter sale, I'm sure we'll see this price again. Dead Island is okay, not great, but not bad. Very fun initially but drags. I'd buy the first one (which got better reviews, btw) in the winter sale, where it should be five dollars or less. If you really want more, buy the second one later, which will get down to five soon enough. The price for that one dropped reallllly fast.

I haven't played Riptide yet, but it's worth getting Dead Island 1 for cheap if you can. I sunk a number hours into it, even though I ended up giving up on it when it started dragging on too much.

Now there's a Mac version, for those of you fellow Mac users out there (I may even give the game another chance).

It's good to know that most games nowdays have both Windows and Mac versions. It's about time.

(And before any comments start, please take any hate elsewhere.)

I'm having to use a Mac since my old PC died and I work on building a new one (waiting for BF promos)... my Steam library was cut in half and most of what's left are Humble Bundle games.

Next time you'll only be playing Activision games (and not the old ones)

What do you guys think of the new humble store? I'm thinking of picking up hotline since it also comes w/drm free. I hope this doesn't distract them from putting together great bundles.

I always thought Amazon (Tony you there?) was in the perfect place to position themselves right in the middle of GOG and Steam. Steam's always going to be Steam drm and GOG's made it's mark by being drm free so they're sort of boxed themselves into a certain business model. But if Amazon offered both steam and drm free versions for some of their games, it could really turn some heads.

And by offering both versions I don't mean a choice of buying either one - but doing a humble bundle and giving you all the bits in a single buy. If you market it properly, heck you may even be able to charge a little (just a little :whistle2: over steam as well.

Tony any chance on a sale just for Riptide DLC
Looks like the Burgula virus has spread to this thread, appropriately enough right after Dead Island bundle goes on sale. ;)

Count Burgula approves and endorses this thread.

I LOVE the Humble Bundles for this, and the Humble Store is a fantastic idea. Offering both Steam keys and direct downloads really gives everyone the best of both worlds. If anything ever happens to Steam, assume the humble store remains available with huge list of awesome games.

As I said a few posts back, I'm surprised Amazon doesn't have a better Game Library system. Toooooonnnyyyyy haaaaalp :p

Yup. If I get dark souls for five bucks, that's gonna be one hungry squirrel.
How about you stick to busting your own nuts, it will make it less painful when Dark Souls does the same :whee:

Completely unrelated, but am I the only one that things Topware jumped the shark by only releasing [customspoiler='Gorky 17']DQRXL-NV3HT-4YN2N[/customspoiler] on Steam? How can they expect me to enjoy it without playing Gorky 1-16, total :bs:
