Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)

For the Pendulo Runaway titles, is it possible to price match the Steam-DRM titles?  Amazon has instead put the price-match on the non-Steam titles.  It's kind of annoying when Amazon doesn't even price-match itself.

Runaway: A Road Adventure $4.99

Non-Steam: http://www.amazon.com/Runaway-A-Road-Adventure-Download/dp/B004YWL388/

Steam: http://www.amazon.com/Runaway-Road-Adventure-Online-Game/dp/B00CTTAOEM

Runaway: A Twist of Fate $9.99

besides the PM and 15% did you have credit or something else?
A $3 credit applied before the 15%. No idea what it was for.

EDIT: Oh, wait. The credit came from Amazon CS. They solved my problem and then gave me money, because they are awesome.

Are you seriously complaining about people wondering about a price match?

Is it so unreasonable to wonder if Amazon is going to price match a competitor because I prefer to do business with Amazon? It's Amazon that will lose out, buddy, not me, because I can simply buy it from Steam, which it looks like what I will be doing here shortly.

Stop spamming the boards with complaints about what other users want. It contributes nothing to the topic at hand. Also, stop assuming that everyone can be around during every single sale, or has money during every single sale, or that every sale is equal because you'd be stupidly wrong.

Besides, that's what this board is for, at least in part. If you don't like it you should probably stop reading threads like this. Without users asking about price matches, Tony/Amazon may not even know what competitors are doing, so these "complaint posts" are necessary and helpful.

Does anyone remember the titles of the free batch of games available with an indie game purchase made Tuesday, July 9? It should be the batch available right before this current batch of The Maw, Ticket To Ride and Drip Drip. I made a purchase but never got the freebies and need to send in a support ticket.

Edited: just remembered that GoI Online was one of them and this free game was the reason I made my purchase. Still looking for the other two.

Edited again: Found them - The Maw, Guns of Icarus Online and Foreign Legion: Buckets of Blood
Glad you solved your issue... Still no luck on mine. I specifically bought a game in the indie store 3 days ago, and I've sent FIVE emails in with no fix. I've been told "wait", "call us", and have even had emails ignored.

Kinda disappointing. I've had problems with Amazon support in the past, but they always bend over backwards to fix things in the end. This is the worst CS experience I've had yet with them. :\

I try not to bother Tony with order issues but I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to resolve this through customer service and sent him a pm instead.

Tony,

Thanks for the "Gooncave" coupon! Do you have any other good promotions coming up soon? I think Amazon could steal more business away from Steam if it brought back awesome deals like "Hitman Absolution for $4.99," instead of just trying to keep up with price matching Steam. I use to really look forward to checking Amazon on Sunday mornings for another amazing weekly deal, and that would usually cause me to keep looking around the site for other bargains.

Now that I saved my 15% off a single game, and not knowing for certain if Amazon'll do the usual "credit for making a digital purchase" deal later in the year, when the prices are equal, Steam offers the better deal right now because of all this trading card nonsense (every $10 = 1 free trading card, which you can sell). And yeah, I'm aware there are a few games right now that are still cheaper on Amazon than on Steam, such as War of the Roses.

I have to admit though, when Steam isn't running its major sales, Amazon is usually the one that gets most of my money because of the random good deals spread throughout the year.
I like when Clint Eastwood says all kinds of awesome stuff.

Will Sims 3 University Life be PM'd as well?

FYI, the entire Pendulo Adventure pack was $14.99 on Steam as a flash deal last summer. You might be better off watching the Steam sale.

Yeah, I've seen it before. If I see it again, I'd probably go for it/the three titles I'm missing on Steam if they also take a 75% off discount. I've already got all of the games in various forms and have Dream of the Turtle and Yesterday on Steam already as well, just trying to fill in holes with my existing Amazon gift card balance. ;)

well it seems Amazon has matched the other daily deals at least on the games they offer but no price match on The Sims 3: Island Paradise :( $30 on Steam but full price on Amazon

Amazon doesn't sell Bethesda titles digitally IIRC
Tony has hinted in the past that they're working on it - I forget if he called them out by name or if we were just speculating.

I've passed up picking up the Bethesda RPGs for a few steam sales in the hope that we'll have a Tony bundle of 'em.

I hope once we get passed the indie game 'event', we'll hear more about the strat first, and some of the other bundles Tony has mentioned from time to time; notice I didn't even once mention 1C...

Okay, still can't find anything significant to  buy, and not getting much inspiration.  May have to just coupon the $2 DLC.

Any better clues on when it expires yet?

Since amazon seems to be out of Witcher keys, if you picked up any of the two games from steam, don't forget to claim your DRM-free version from GOG here http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup.

Tony, any plans to offer steam keys for witcher 2 (I can wait till the winter sale).

thanks
I've been avoiding the Steam version since I only wanted these games DRM-free. Thank you for letting me know I can still get that DRM-free version. I love GoG, but not as much as the Amazon where Tony dwells.

The sale we already know ends the 14th. No one has stated when "gooncave" ends. Tony even stated TBD.

yea, the text on amazon seems to suggest the 14th. Bleh should've used it yesterday, don't see anything else that i need.

Isn't Gooncave just for summer sale games? If the sale no longer appears on Amazon, I would bet the Gooncave code wouldn't work anymore due to it being connected to the registry of summer sale games.

But yeah, I guess.

Don't know. I don't believe any details were laid out by Tony. He just stated here's a discount code, you can use it once, we're not sure when we'll end it, enjoy.

Hitman: Absolution worth the $5.30 if I have a fairly large backlog? Or should I buy on console when it's cheap like it was recently $12

34 hours in on a 48 hour steam sale on all borderlands games and all dlc and there is still not a PM on amazon. Also tomb raider franchise never PM.

Would really like to give you money Tony, but I'm going to be giving it to steam this summer sale.

I personally loved Hitman Abs... stealth-murder sim. I paid $10.
I really liked Hitman: Absolution, too.

Of course, my dad paid $20 for it (i.e. XMas Present for me).

Sure, H:A did take the series in a new direction w/ a much bigger scope than ever before (a lot of different types of missions - from typical Hitman missions w/ lots of ways to finish a level to flat-out Splinter Cell-like linear missions), but it still was pretty good.

Now, if only they (IO Interactive) can perfect this new model...

Your dad needs to lurk here

;)

Bummed that Amazon doesn't have the PC/Steam version of Remember Me. I'm on the edge of buying it, and decided I'd try to buy on Amazon... but it's not there. Hm.

There's also no price match for Tower Wars?

BTW, the "trading cards" on Steam make for good "discount cards" if you're not wanting to actually collect them. Just sell them on the market and use that to buy more games. :p

(I'm not doing that, but I probably will end up selling cards of games that I don't play much... there may be a lot. :p )

For those considering Hitman Absolution, just bought the Professional Edition (through Steam) and got the pre-order only hitman: Sniper Challenges game with it. It would be awesome if someone who gets their code through Amazon could report on which version of the game they bought and if they got the pre-order bonus as well. my original post: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/308853-the-steam-deals-cards-thread-v8-summer-sale-is-on-check-op-hundreds-of-games-75-or-more/page-325#entry10907058
