Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Considering the entire Prototype pack has been both $9.99 and $7.49 from Amazon in the past sorry can't bring myself to pay $20 for this lame sale. They can't even match their old price.
Back when THQ was the publisher, but now Activision publishes it so don't expect the same deal.

UPlay will eventually die, just like GFWL did.

At that point, it would be in your best interest to have the game registered to Steam.
You can register a lot of Steam Ubi games on Uplay now. As long as they have a cd key, you can register them on Uplay so you get the best of both worlds. You get piece of mind of having the games in 2 different places and you still get to benefit from the Uplay rewards which I am a big fan of. I have all of my Steam Assassin's Creed games (excluding the first one) on Uplay as well now. Now if only all of Ubi's development houses could get their games working on the PC. I'm looking at you Splinter Cell.

I just noticed that Steam is having a Greenlight sale, maybe we can get some pricematches on Amazon. I just noticed Kentucky Route Zero is $12.49 (50% off). Rogue Legacy is only 25% off though.

Steam link is also screwed up for me on Chrome. I don't really feel like using another browser either.

Meh, I guess I'll check back later in the sale or something and see if they fix it.

Havin problems on firefox trying to get to the second page of any of the filters. Also having difficulty when trying to filter and then filter again to 3 star and up

Hi Tony,

I'm QA professional and only work with web products.  It looks like you need some help at Amazon.  I would be willing to do the QA for your site for a small fee of every game you have now and every game amazon gets while I work for you.  I would never have let those links go out the door unless they worked....

Let me know if that sounds like a good deal.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're referencing. Thanks for the offer though.

Cheers,

Hey Tony, I'm willing to be Amazon DVG's official mascot. spoderman is very popular so I'm sure we can work something out. Maybe a small fee of every game you have now and every game you get while I'm your mascot? I won't let you down.

Thanks for pointing this out!

I actually just updated this morning UPlay - ain't been on it in some time. Yeah, they've totally revamped this client again.

And yeah - click on the Gear icon and then go to Activate product - yeah, you can now Register UPlay games up onto there! Awesome! :D

Listen Spoder, I have a mascot, his name is Paddington. The downside is that, when I don't bring him in with me the rest of the team makes me velcro fur to myself and bark at everyone who walks by.

Tony

No it won't. The difference is GfWL never did anything to encourage you to build a library. Ea and Ubisoft cleverly added your older retail and other digital store copies of their games onto their clients giving you a library and reason to use them.

In any case, the Steam versions require Uplay. Steam owners would be just as stuffed as anyone else with no more UPlay.

Hey Tony, I was looking at your site and realized it's not in Spanish.  I speak and write Spanish and can translate it into Spanish for a small fee - every game Amazon has now and will get while I am working there and Bezos' atomic forever clock?  Let me know if that works.  I can also take Bezos' spaceship instead of the clock or weekly Amazon Fresh deliveries.

I think Origin and UPlay will survive - since they keep adding support to their service. Plus, both Origin and UbiSoft have insanely popular titles and franchises they are supporting on their platforms.

Microsoft did NOTHING to really support the PC-way of doing thing - especially when compared to Steam.

G4WL ain't even in the league or Origin and UPlay - and those two services are no way even in the same league as Steam.

Also, thoughts on Manhattan Chase:

You get to choose between a sexy copy and a sexy nun/villain woman. Feels like Halloween and I approve. Game starts with a bad guy/mentor putting a bomb on your cars window. An invisible bomb. You are then told this car is equipped with weapons and will be yours once you pass his challenges three. Hot nun gets into the car and you are set to go! Get to some place in 35 seconds or the car will blow up! Awful driving physics and cars driving against traffic make this difficult, but after the 10th try I make it! Now the cops are after you because I don't know why? Get to the hotel in 40 seconds! Oh no, cops keep cornering you and awful driving physics make it very hard to get around them. Don't make it to the hotel on time, let's try again? No. Let's start all the way from the beginning again. fuck this game.
Thanks for taking one for the team there, fox.

Like others have said, that was always Activision. And that sale price was basically unbelievable at the time, I doubt we'll see it again anytime close to soon.

Hey Tony!

I'm willing to be Amazon DVG's official PC game reviewer, provided you keep supplying me w/ the games I want at either heavily discounted prices (75% off or better) AND/OR for FREE (better yet)!

Let me know if it sounds like a good deal.

;)

DERICK / MYSTERD

EDIT:

P.S. - I still ain't forgot when you featured my Dark Souls PC 1st impressions in the Amazon DVG and made my XFire account get like over 1,000 hits. ;)

I also have an issue with the steam link, except when I click it I just get a blank page.  This is with chrome, and adblock if that makes a difference

Use link from post above, hit 'steam titles', get blank page

Ah I'm seeing the Chrome issue now, weird. If you refresh the page after clicking you'll see the results. This sounds like an engineering thing going to file a ticket.

Thanks for the heads up :).

Ticket re-opened. Recommend business team read tickets fully before resolving.

Cheers,

Tony

Hey Tony.  I'm willing to to nothing.  I'd be willing to do nothing for a small fee of every game you have now and every game Amazon gets while I do nothing for or even with you.  Let me know if that sounds like a good deal.

On a more serious note, I'm going through some kind of major withdraw symptoms that I think stem from not buying any PCDD games from Amazon recently.  I'm really trying to find something to buy, but alas, nada.  I think I overdid the '12 holiday sales.  Here's hoping the not-soon-enough '13 holiday sales can cure my DT's.

thanks Tony, I deal with that on a daily basis for tickets I open or tickets that people on my team open. Our favorite thing to hear is a dev say "cannot recreate on my local machine"!

Hey Tony. I like the things you do. Hey Tony. If I could I would be you. You're the one and only Deals Rep. With the one and only deals. If you could give me all your games for free that'd be grrrrrrreat.

Let me know if that sounds like a good deal.

Hey Tony, I'm willing to buy games at cheap prices.  You supply the games and cheap prices, I supply the money.

Let me know if this sounds like a good deal.

Hey Tony,

When will we see the final spreadsheet / final list of deals?

EDIT:

Also, I think this thread is now the "Hey Tony" Thread... ;)

Did anyone ask for price-matches on Kentucky Route Zero and Rogue Legacy yet?

Kentucky Route Zero - $12.49

http://store.steampowered.com/app/231200

http://www.amazon.com/Kentucky-Route-Zero-Complete-Online/dp/B00BLVM01E

Rogue Legacy - $11.24

http://store.steampowered.com/app/241600/

http://www.amazon.com/Rogue-Legacy-Online-Game-Code/dp/B00E0S54BI

My brain's a little addled from moving my office -- including office furniture, computer, personal effects, couch, etc. -- up three flights of stairs because the service elevator was out and the building wouldn't allow us to use the regular elevator to move things.  But a price match would be a nice thing, if you can swing it, Tony. :)
