Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]

I wonder if there's any chance I can exchange my seemingly defective red black friday 3ds xl for the mario and lugi one.

For what it's worth, the enhanced edition of BG2 is supposed to be much better than BG1. A lot more was added, etc.
Most BG mods get changed so it works with the enhanced version anyway so to say the originals are better with mods makes no sense. You can argue whether you like some of the changes/additions they made or not.

Tony,

For that Sega bundle I was suggesting for Colonial Marines... I forgot about Typing of the Dead!  So like Colonial Marines, Typing of the Dead, Hell Yeah, and Binary Domain for... $15... $12... $10... $10 on EC list.

Hey guys,
Question,

What do you think about $2 Aliens: Colonial Marines? I'm pitching it and think I've got traction but I don't want to make a big deal out of it if you guys think there isn't enough interest to merit a big push.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Tony
I'd buy it for $2. Hell, I'd buy a few and gift it out.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is an internet hate-magnet. You can't even mention Gearbox or the name Randy Pitchford without attracting a crowd.

But I know I'd be buying at that price and I think there's plenty of interest from those that didn't bite on the pre-orders and have shied away from it due to harsh reviews. The license alone will bring out buyers if the price is right.

Please put up Aliens Colonial Marines for $2. I will buy it at that price.

My 3DS just died so would people recommend getting the 3DS XL instead of paying 100 to repair it and can I transfer my ambassador downloads to the new 3DS?
The only drawbacks to the XL is that the pixel density is pretty low, so 3DS games can end up looking very grainy on the giant screen. The other issue is that the XL speakers are pretty weak. Other than that the XL easily wins out over the OG model. You'll be able to transfer your ambassador games.

I have the originals but I hate carrying the discs around. And the CD-Rom version of the first game is a major pain in the ass. It is three discs and you are CONSTANTLY having to swap them in-game.
I was referring to the GOG distribution of the originals. Last xmas they had both complete versions plus Icewind Dale 1+2, Neverwinter Nights, Temple of Elemental Evil (IIRC), Planescape Torment, and I think another game or two for $20 total.

Why are the originals better? I was thinking of getting the enhanced version of BG2, but maybe I should get the GOG version?
There are tons of great mods for Baldur's Gate, like Baldur's Gate Trilogy or Tutu which let you seamlessly join the games into one giant game all using the BG2 engine (so you're playing the original game with the improvements of the second.) There's also tons of fixes for bugs, dialogue updates, graphics updates etc. available. The enhanced edition (of BG1, at least) is generally regarded as not being anywhere near as good as the originals modded due to the bugs it introduced and not being compatible with many of the mods available. As time goes on some of those issues will probably be resolved, but if you're wanting to play the game soonish then the original modded is probably the best (and cheapest) way to go.

The d & d collection goes on sale every now and then via gamersgate, gamestop, etc. It includes BG 1/2, Icedale 1/2, planescape, and toee. It's been five bucks a few times....worth waitingg for that price

Maybe this is a wrong place to write this, but whatever. >.>

Several days ago I bought NBA2012 from Amazon. Not for me, my friend asked me to buy it since he couldn't buy from Amazon. He gave me a link to a wrong deal. I bought it without looking (my fault). I got a code but not for Steam basically.

So I tried to ask Amazon CS for possible replacement. After several emails back and forth, I got my refund flawlessly after purchasing the correct Steam version.

I have to praise the quick reactions for each emails I sent. However, I have one complaint to say. For every reply I had to make to Amazon CS, I actually was forced to use a specific link each that linked to Amazon form. Basically when I want to deal with Steam's Customer Service, for example, it's a single thread within a single form. With Amazon it's super different although I was able to react accordingly, it's very inconvenient.

Please, consider to make a more 'friendly' contact form. A simple, single thread email would've been much more convenient and easy archiving.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'll just wait for Baldur's Gate 2 Complete to go on sale on GOG then.

I'm waiting for the "Re-Buy Old Games PC Bundle" w/ BG1: Enhanced + BG2: Enhanced + FF7 re-release + FF8 re-release. ;)
price point for this bundle $10 and credit to Mooby suggesting that this should be $10 during EC promo time

For what it is worth, the only DLC for ACM that I saw on steam that seemed to add to the single player "story" was

Aliens: Colonial Marines - Stasis Interrupted DLC

Tony, yes, we will buy Aliens for $2. Can we also get cheap DLC such as the above? thank you for your consideration

Despite all the hate for the game, that would convince me to pick it up and try it for myself! And perhaps a few extra copies for drops. :p

Yup!

He can't transfer data if it doesn't work though

This, the D&D Anthology Master collection on GG has gone on sale many times for ~5-6 already. GOG has been close to their price once in a collection I think. Cheapest way to get them for sure, and they're even the same versions as the GOG ones, they just changed the installers a bit so it doesn't have GOG in them.

That's assuming you wouldn't want to buy the remake.

That said, if any point is likely to see a similar price from GOG for a similar collection, it's the Xmas sale that's coming soon, so keep an eye out for that. If history repeats they'll have one grand blowout day early in the sale (right before the Steam sale starts) where they simply post every package they're going to have throughout the rest of the sale. (makes the rest of the sale rather boring so I'd personally hope they'd stop doing that but still)

Or... Maybe Tony can work his magic this Xmas Holiday sale ;)
