Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

Where's tebow? I can't see him.
I gave him 2 tracks - and he didn't turn them in on time.

My label been wanting this album for a while - so, gotta' push it out.

One track was "Message Boards (Threads)" - he was supposed to do the hook.

The other was "Chat Rooms (Steam-y)" - he was supposed to do a verse.

Probably will be on the album's sequel.

Free for PS+ members this month, if you have a PS3. Otherwise, wait for Steam?

EDIT: should I get Final Exam ($2.49 after coupon) or try to wait it out for Defiance?
I have no PS3, anyway it's back. :)

About Final Exam I tried the demo and wished it ended soon... I didn't enjoyed game mechanics too much, Castle Crashers is a better game in that sector (Scrolling Beat'Em Up).

I tought it was a good game and willing to buy it (and for my GF too) before trying the demo but I really got bored.,, The game should be better if played by 4 players (online supported) but consider it could be really short. If you don't like repeating same levels again and again you should check some other title. How To Survive is a different genere, I liked it more for now. Hoping for the multiplayer patch. :)

Got a spare Mass Effect 2 Origin key to give away after my Bioware Points binge. 42nd person to PM me their favorite Tali fanfic probably won't get it, because i'll just give it to someone randomly after I recover from the Friday Fish Fry coma.
This went as well as my weeklong Hacker Evolution Duality giveaway.

ibi3HVEli3S5rv.jpg

It's likely been asked, but is How to Survive worth $2.49? PC Metacritic score is 58/100, which is pretty low. Plus I hear this may be coming to the PS Vita sometime this year.

Leave Miranda's bum alone, people!  It's sacred and not meant to be displayed.  It is meant to be appreciated in your imagination where it becomes firmly and securely a part of your daily thoughts.  Every time something happens, you consider, "How does it compare to Miranda's bum?"

You start to weigh life events and what not based on a scale of, .1, .5, .7, or even the legendary and mythical 1.0 Miranda's bum.  There is a story of a time when a person came upon an event so incredible it weighed in at 1.1 Miranda's bum, but that is a lie told by liars who have Bioware points to sell.  They cannot be trusted.

There is nothing that measures up to the posterior of the frosty Miranda Lawson.  Any who say there is, they are trying to sell you something (probably Bioware points) or they are fools.

KOA:R is a pretty cool game, my 60+ year old father plays it on his xbox I got him and he literally can't get off the machine.
Wait, so he is actually sitting on his xbox and can't get off?!

Blizzard games are generally the only titles I end up buying on release but I did get CS:GO (like $12.50 or something) and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to grab Witcher 3 early on, love that series. I should read the books.

On another note if you want you use your employee discount to nab me a kindle fire HDX I'd appreciate it Tony, I'll pay you back I promise! I've been trying to hold out but I just might have to bite now during this $30 off thing.

To be clear, they gave us more keys...they also just killed the deal in the same email.

Cheers,

Tony
Remember the comment earlier in the day, about keys for Brothers possibly not reappearing until the deal ended? I think that Squeenix's actions with the Square Bundle are at the root of the concept. It's not a reflection on Tony or Amazon; it's a worry that the publisher may have only intended to sell a limited quantity in a particular deal, and when the keys are gone, the deal won't be coming back.

That's how I see it. If Amazon requests more keys - and they're not supplied - then I assume that the publisher doesn't wish to supply them. Provided that there's a day or two left, of course.

Stupid old publishers! What Amazon wants, Amazon should get... and then sell it to us at an absurd discount before the EC coupon.

First Impression time: Final Exam $2.99 post-EC-credit

+ Very attractive and varied environments

+ A number of minor side-tasks keep things interesting

+ A pretty decent combo system

+ The story serves mainly as a reason to move you from level to level. It mostly stays in the background.

+ Upgrades, Equipment, and character classes help you customize your game a bit

+ 2 Player local co-op or 4 Player online

+ Leaderboards, Achievements, Trading Cards

- A bit repetitive

- Fairly short (4 hours or so, I've read)

The price is right on this one. It's competent and has good production values. I'm doing singleplayer, but it would definitely be fun with 4 players. Cards are going for .17-.30 each, if that matters.

I really enjoyed Shoot Many Robots and this reminds me of that game a bit, though FE has a bit more variety in its environments and missions and the focus is more on melee than guns.

Bundles be damned, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

Cites in motion 2 worth $5?
As previously mentioned by asheskitty, the game was in Humble Jumbo Bundle, it was also part of Indie Royale's Birthday Bundle. I feel that Cities in Motion is much more fun and it has good mods (you can check this site out) but graphic wise, Cities in Motion 2 is better.

I'm halfway though FE (though I've played the levels twice.., solo), and I concur with hal. The combat system is more varied than it seems early on as well.

Hmm... damn, that's pushing me to pickup the CIM1 DLC bundle.

Amazon AppStore FOATD

You Must Escape ...looks like a decent little puzzle game.
y u no post this in Android thread?

Y'all thought 50's first album was dope?
Did you really just quote yourself to make this joke? :WALL:

Was that Tebows longest post?
If only...

What was in that Ginger Ale? I completely understand a tebow post.
You drink ale made of gingers? Isn't that like, self cannibalism?!!

Just finished Brothers. One word can describe it: Beautiful.

I really enjoyed every minute of it, and think the duration is perfect, shouldn't be any longer, Is like a good movie and you can play it straight, not boring at all.

So guys, if you're in doubt, just buy it.

My personal game of the year last year.

I think if you liked ICO, you'd probably like Brothers. Very similar, although the control mechanics in Brothers are completely different and innovative.. and there isn't any challenge to the gameplay. ICO can be challenging for the first playthrough.

The dev obviously got a lot of inspiration from ICO.
