Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]

Second time I started up Most Wanted it forgot I owned the DLC, I went to Store from the Easydrive menu, then immediately hit Esc and then the DLC was activated. Makes me worried what's gonna happen to this DLC when they take the store offline. :(

Update: 3rd & 4th times I started the game it recognized the DLC.

I'm dreaming in my sleep about you, tebow.

How about some realistic wanted prices, most of these are just ridiculous.
Tony said to post prices that we wanted, not prices that publishers wished every customer would pay. While I do agree that many suggestions are unlikely, and a few are ridiculous (for various reasons), that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be posted if the prices are what the poster is willing to pay.

Can we get a Gamefly pm on Foul Play.
As far as I can tell, Amazon only matches Steam these days.

I believe my suggested prices are 75% off. Where are the unrealistic suggestions?

I'd say 90% of suggestions were unrealistic, pretty much a bunch of people saying "hey put my favorite game X for free after EC coupon plzkthnx"

This. Would really like to see a Sega bundle with those games and perhaps others. I'm surprised Sega hasn't been more receptive as they usually were in the past.
Yeah, what's up with Sega lately? Did they not sell enough copies of Hell Yeah to fill their quota last time or something?

How about some realistic wanted prices, most of these are just ridiculous.
You're absolutely right, those people willing to pay $10-15 after coupon must be mental.

That'll be around the time I'm finished with my already existing backlog.
Quit playing...you're never going to finish your existing backlog. Even if you don't buy any more games. Which won't happen.

Unrealistic that they will be added, yes. Unrealistic prices, not really. Plus I already got Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3 for $10 total. So yeah, these prices can happen bud.

A lot of people are asking for lower than the lowest historical price, to me those are unrealistic prices.
I asked for a few that are lower than historical price...rayman origins for 5 bucks, BGEE2 for 5 bucks, dawnguard + hearthfire for 7.

Maybe they're unrealistic, but they all have some logic to them...origins has been out for a good while now, and its lowest price was 6.67. It's bound to hit 5 bucks at some point...BGEE2 I never would have even thought of asking for that price, but it was 6.25 on gamersgate today. If it can hit 6.25 on gg, why not 5 in an amazon EC sale? Dawnguard + Hearthfire for 7 might seem pretty unreasonable, but when you take into account dragonborn was five on amazon not too long ago, it's really not too unrealistic. Besides, it's a wishlist. I put down my pricepoints for items that I thought were a bit of a stretch, but *might* happen if Tony inquires about it. It's worth a shot - you never know if you don't ask.

Did anyone else go through they're Steam Wishlist like I did before posting?

True, but seeing as how the Christmas sale is over.. I would assume those would apply to the EC sale, if he can manage to get a response back from Namco.
Yeah, I'd assume that it would be that sort of price after coupon.

So if something has been out for a couple of years, but has only been 66% off so far, it's unrealistic to ask for 75% off?

Yes.

Lower than historical prices pre or post coupon? The difference is important there. Ideally it's a good sale for people without coupons too - those are the ones that people talk about later and the reason why some people will intentionally stick to amazon for November-December. If it's post-coupon then what's the point? Those are the ones people complain about when they say it's just regular price + $5.

If it's pre-coupon then it really depends how far we're talking here as that's not unprecedented or too rare either. It's what made 2 years ago special and it's what last year's standouts were.

As a forward, I already picked up most of the games I was holding out for, and $5 is my price for something I'm casually interested in. Its the price I typically pay for games on this list each year, post coupon obviously. When this isn't possible I'll usually just wait and get it later.

Price before coupon:

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - $10

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified - $10

State of Decay - $10

As an aside, I'm getting Brothers and DmC free as part of PS+, but had two coupons for PC versions. Brothers has more or less made it's case for $8 (which I'm undecided on), and DmC doesn't seem to be listed on Amazon at all, so things other people posted that I would consider using my last two coupons on include:

Metro Last Light - $10

Mortal Kombat Komplete - $7.50

Injustice: Gods Among Us - $12

XCOM: Enemy Within - $10

Civilization 5: Brave New World - $8

Far Cry 3 - $8

However likely, most of these prices seem reasonable as they match (or come close to) previous deals, just with an added coupon discount as a bonus. It's the only real reason to wait and use a coupon on something rather than getting it when it was originally discounted. Maybe that creates problems with the program, but it's the truth.

P.S. If by some miracle it ever gets listed, I would totally pay $5 to have DmC at 60 fps.

I would say $15 after coupon, if your lucky. It's fairly new still and has seen a couple good sales already.
GMG has had is for $12ish after their own coupons, and I swear it's been 66% off somewhere briefly, but I can't verify it.

I don't think $10 after coupon is horribly unrealistic, but I doubt it's going to happen.

add me to the list of peeps wanting XCOM: Enemy Within at 10-15 bucks before credit

or Skyrim Legendary Edition at 15-20 bucks before credit

Enemy Within was $9.99 just a few weeks ago on Amazon. Asking it to be the same price after coupon is just asking for a repeat of that. It was either Civ 5's BNW vs. EW for $10. EW won.

now, BNW's been $8 on GMG IIRC. Maybe it was $7? Around there though. So no, it's not at all unrealistic. If anything you should be aiming lower dammit.

XCOM EW was $10 once w/out any coupons.

So, the after coupon price better TOP that by a bit of $ - or I'm not interested.

I still need dirt-cheap XCOM EU first, though.

I want some pre-orders at $20 before EC.

Some suggestions:

Dying Light

Watchdogs

Haunted: Episode 2
Will they come w/ Season Passes...? ;)

EDIT:

XCOM: EW was $10 w/ no coupons once.

So, hopefully - EW after coupons would be at a MUCH better price - or I'm not interested.

Plus, I still need dirt-cheap XCOM: EU

XCOM: The Bureau...

That was pretty much labeled a BAD game by gamers and reviewers - $2 after coupon seems better. ;)

Remember, BAD games like Aliens: CM + London 2012 have been $2 before on Amazon DVG (w/ no coupons).

Amazon DVG set a precedent for "BAD" games should be $2 (or less), IMHO.

EDIT:

I could get down with:

DMC for $5 after coupon and Castlevania: LoS at $5 after coupon.

I'm kinda thinking my only other EC buy will be Need For Speed Most Wanted but I'm iffy. Exactly how obtrusive is the DLC Showing up in game if you don't own it thing? Will it kill my enjoyment that much?

It's pretty hard to miss the DLC showing up in-game.

About every other car you drive up to that you might want to switch to is a DLC car. If you to fast and press the button before you read it takes you to the store.

I bought it to stop that annoyance of seeing the car but not being able to grab it. I had a $5 Amazon Gift Card from Bing so I used that too to get the DLC pack for $2

Edit:

Also added my CAG name to my Steam profile :) Hopefully no one is confused now :p

Annoying as hell.

You could be going to a jack-spot to try to avoid the cops; find a car; and then when you try to take the car it'll send you to the STORE to buy the DLC that has that car in it. :(

I'm thinking of getting the Alice Return Madness Complete from Amazon.

Can anyone convince me abit more to get it from Amazon aside from trying to find it on steam (just so I can say I have it on steam and steam keys and look cool for my friends) or just get the Origin cause it's a way to use my coupon  and screw steam key origin rules Kappa.

thanks !

I'm also getting Sims 3 Island Paradise tomorrow, then I'll have 3 coupons (2) if I get Alice left..

I think part of the worry about unrealistic prices is that Tony's gonna show these to the publisher who is just going to laugh and say "Nope".  Not "They want this $40 game for $5?  Well, we'll do $12" but just "Hahaha... what a buncha idiots"
