Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Maybe I should give a first chance... from videos it looked overrated simply due to the narration.
The narrator has a great voice but the character is a huge dick. By the end based on what his character has to say I came to the conclusion that he was the villain. Kind of an interesting approach.

For the gameplay...the beginning is pretty weak, tbh. It's not until you get further in and have more weapons and they get upgraded a bit that the game becomes fun. So give it at least a couple of hours. The scene right near the end (not the end scene itself) is actually really really cool and well-done.

Hey guys,

Valentine's day is shaping up ok on the deal front. We'll have a killer deal on Xcom EU+EW, The Bureau, Crysis 3, and some others :).

Cheers,

Tony
Welcome back Tony :)

Good to see some deals coming.

Maybe you know why Castlevania was not PM'd for the daily Steam deal? Was looking to get it through Amazon but unfortunately it never went on sale. Besides using the link on the Amazon page about seeing a better price is there something else that can be done to get the PM done? Short of spamming Amazon with a bunch of PM requests.

EU+EW? :whistle2:( I already have EU.
At the risk of being a broken record, THIS! :censored:

Oh well, just teaches me to wait longer to buy I guess otherwise I get screwed on a great deal for the base with the expansion while they pull a Bethesda and do little or no deal on the DLC by itself.

Not that Tony probably cares or apparently Bethesda either (someone here contacted them about it I think?) but I think that shit is just wrong. It's good to get new buyers in of course but don't screw over your existing customers who bought in early. :twoguns: Some kind of deal for us on just the DLC would be nice.

They've done loads of deals on Civ expansions and even DLC's with the 'upgrade' versions. I'm sure they'll do this expansion at some point.

YES!!!!! Those games are NEVER on sale, holy shit this is epic!!!!!!!! I love you Tony! You're the best Amazon sales rep living in Seattle that posts on CAG that I've ever known in my entire life.

Steam has some Pac-Man deals! We should see if we can get Amazon to match.

PAC-MAN™ Championship Edition DX+ for $4.99
http://store.steampowered.com/app/236450/

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ All You Can Eat Edition (includes base game) for $7.49
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/31161/

The "all-in" version price matches the lowest price it's ever been offered for.  The base game has been $2.49 before.

*EDIT* Looks like Amazon only has the base game available.  Still worth pursuing a price match there.

There are constructive ways to make a point and this probably isn't one of them. If, instead, you're just trying to make him feel bad or illustrate your own personal feelings... well, then carry on.

Poor little XCom: EU. Every day, he runs out to the mailbox, hoping that the cute little red-haired Enemy Within has sent him a valentine. But every day, his hopes are crushed, as the mailbox remains empty.

Please, Tony and 2K, please help my giant-headed, prematurely-bald EU have a happy Valentine's Day. Please help him meet the expansion pack of his dreams. Don't let him suffer alone for another year. He's no good at baseball, and he can't kick a football, and he gets nothing but rocks for Halloween. This is all he has. Please help.

Thanks! I actually really dig the story of The Bureau, but am not in love with the game play of X-Com, so this is great news.
Think Mass Effect 2/3 style combat but add in enemies that love to spam grenades. Remove any semblance of squad AI possible apart from the following logic: When hostile NPC X throws grenade within 100 meters of NPC squad member Y, Y should madly run from cover directly to the nearest hostile NPC Z or leave cover and stand in middle of the battlefield while awaiting further instructions.

If you fail to save NPC Y after he inevitably is downed for the xth time, he perma-dies.

On the plus side, if you get sad that the dead squad member happened to be voiced by the guy that did Garrus, don't fret. It seems the devs only had a budget to pay 2 voice actors for the entire game so some new squad member will sound like Garrus in no time.

Can't wait for some more details on XCOM EU+EW, bro. :D

I'm also curious what those "some others" might be.

I already own The Bureau + C3 from you guys at Amazon DVG...

Well, I felt the reverse.

I didn't really care much for the story & characters in The Bureau - well, until later on in the game when it actually decides to starts to get REALLY interesting...

....but, I really actually dug the actual combat + gameplay itself.

I played the game on Squaddie and had a bit of a tough time w/ it; especially in the last few levels, when the difficulty spikes-up quite a bit and auto-saves get more spaced-out.

My god, the PC and ps4/xbone versions are so different, it should be against consumer regulation to sell them under the same name and branding!

So I see Steam has added the ability to "tag" games .. this is going to be a bad idea seeing how they are user created.

CoD: Ghosts tags - Garbage, Dog, Bad, Poor Quality, Action. Explain to me how this is helpful.

Why can't they just update the client so we can actually sort our libraries better. Maybe even add the ability to change their names locally so I can correct the many incorrectly named games.

There's some banter about the new steam tags over in the Steam Deals Thread.

BernardoOne's post is hilarious regarding the "Post-apocalyptic" tag.

Who cares what x million random idiots that wouldn't know a good game if it launched on their PC right in front of their own eyes tag a game with? Why would you even use any idiotic web 2.0/social features like that to search for a game in the first place?

The base game has been PM'd ... wish they had the All-DLC version though
