Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

Oooh, yes - I'm definitely also a sucker for when soundtracks are also tossed into the mix.
Is this just a collector thing or do you actually listen to them?
Yeah, I'm a sucker for game soundtrack collecting too. I've noticed I tend to like a game even more beyond the game play and story because of the music or score used in the game. They obviously go hand in hand, but sometimes the music really stands out. (I'm also a huge film/movie original score collector as well, both orchestral and non-orchestral scores). I think it's an awesome bonus and perk to have included in most humble bundles in my opinion.

I highly recommend you listen to a little band called Faunts. Mostly instrumental, not a lot of singing, amazing stuff. Their song M4 Part II is used in the ending credits for Mass Effect 2; that's how I came across them. Very unique, very good.
Thanks for reminding me, I completely forgot about them and I concur.

Best OST ever, hands down: Chrono Cross composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.

I own the three disc set. Check it out. If anything, look up Time's Scar and Time's Dream. I'm a bit biased since it's my favorite game of all time and close to my heart, but I've never come across a better soundtrack. It's utterly beautiful.

Anything by Yasunori Mitsuda is amazing, but yes Chrono Cross is top of that list. I would love the original Chrono Trigger soundtrack done in that style, as that is my personal favorite game of all time.

The Xenogears soundtrack was pretty great too.

Has anyone confirmed the Steam version of Antichamber has DRM?  There's a chance it's DRM-free as well.

Steam has plenty of DRM-free games.

Hey Tony, just wondering if you ever did that Guild Wars 1 bundle on the cheap.

On the subject of OST's, there is a lot of good music from games. I am sure you heard Bastion's. Metal Gear's soundtracks are solid. Jet Grind Radio and JS Radio Future is pretty groovy. Mortal Kombat and Sleeping Dogs (certain radio stations over others) are pretty killer. I never played Cross, but Trigger is timeless. ONLY THE FIRST DISC OF XENOGEARS SOUNDTRACK IS FANTASTIC.

The puns aside, i put this above all other ost's. The one set that sticks out the most has got to be samurai champloo's and Gurren Lagann's. I think Nujabes work is pretty damn fantastic, it's a shame that he died. I think i listened to those OST's the most, maybe second to the Jet Set series.

I can agree with music being a big part in game making. With what i mentioned in that last paragraph. The quality of visual media or game is well done and can stand alone and the same can be said for the music. That is probably the secret formula to great games and shows, the perfect blend of chocolate and peanut butter.

While both are intrinsically good, once you have it you can't really see them ever being apart.

Or i could just really love nutella.

All Steam games have DRM, it is called Steam. Whether or not it has additional DRM, get the Enhanced Steam add-on for your browser of choice, then goto the store page for a game. ES will put a big orange banner with a DRM warning.

Not true. There are games on Steam that do not even have Steam DRM.

He's referring to games that don't require Steam to be running to start; you can just launch the .exe.

In regards to Antichamber, I just tried and yes you can play it without Steam running (so it's technically DRM-Free).

Hey guys,

I'm trying the Gummi Bear challenge this week (likely tomorrow). Gonna try and take down a 5lb Gummi Bear in 90 minutes. We're definitely recording it and might stream it.

Anyone interested in watching?

Cheers,
Tony

Hey man,

I'm still working on a GW 1 deal but it isn't seeing much movement :(.

Also, Nutella is the best.

Cheers,

Tony

Watch a grown man vomit up four-and-a-half pounds of half-digested gummi? Where do I sign up?
I had to look this up. I'd think doing it with 5 lbs of gummi worms would be slightly more pleasant than having to bite off large chunks of gummi.

How come no one does this with a knife and fork? ;)

Only 5 pounds? In 90 minutes? You should be able to do that in your sleep.

Melt it down and drink it. ;)

Yes! That is a fantastic OST. I purchased a digital copy of the three disc set many years ago because I too loved Chrono Cross. I still have my original PS One case & discs, for nostalgia of course. I've been tempted to pick up the PS3/PS Vita version of it for quite some time. It would be a blast to play it again no doubt.

Yes! Man Vs Food is one of my favorite shows :)

Just picture me in the background on a lawnmower screaming YOU CAN DOOOOOOOOOO EEEEETTTTTTTTTTT!

I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one who prefers gummi worms over gummi bears.
If they're of the sour variety, no doubt, worms is where it's at. Otherwise, I doubt I could tell the difference as the dwell time on my taste buds is already marginal.

For most brands, worms do seem to work better in terms of texture. With good candy counter stuff, though, bears for sure.

The best gummi bears (and worms) I've had are from Sprouts. Blows the bagged stuff out of the water.

I hate all things Gummy... candy, songs, toys. Good luck with that. I hope you are not diabetic... or at least have a paramedic team on standby.   :whistle2:

Playing with Gummi Bears has more entertainment opportunities than Gummi worms offer. Snipping them in half with your front teeth, sticking them back together randomly and creating unholy hybrids that a loving god would turn away from is more satisfying with Gummi nominal bipeds.

Of course, best is to have both so you can create Gummi ursine naga or something. Or some Lovecraftian Gummi horror-bear with a massive tentacle where its head should be. Or just have the bears fight the giant Gummi worm.

When I want to play god with bears, I play this:
