Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Wow, I was so busy sending emails to the winners of the free game giveaways, that I missed out on the Titanfall giveaway? Weak!

Looking forward to the new thread. 2518 pages has started to wear down on me.

Cheers,
I was one of those winners, and we appreciate your dedication LN!

Thanks again to LN and targetbsp for running the contest. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming giveaways.

hard to believe coming from a guy who several months later has yet to uphold his promise to change a man's diaper
Would that be a gorilla diaper?

But you also must get steam keys or everyone will be like "ewww Telltale DRM, pass...".
Pretty much, but Telltale's gotten so big for their britches now that they think they can get everyone to use their crappy Telltale DRM. I don't think anyone outside of Steam is selling the Steam version for Walking Dead Season 2. Even Greenman isn't and they usually sell games as Steam keys when available.

Thanks to LN3000 and Targetbsp!

I won Bad Hotel and I also redeemed Defense Tecnica above.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to having more games on sale than just Rockstar games.
Just in case you don't know, Josh, this guy's a bit of a jokester and actually would be thrilled if you put Max Payne 3 on sale.

you're right, I should be living by your standards. How dare I. First, you can't know a game is bad until you play it.

But more importantly, it's about being part of the conversation. When people talk about how laughably bad ET and Superman 64 are, I can be like "yes I know exactly why it carries that title"

"I play games I actually enjoy" implies that I play terrible games consistently. I didn't beat those two nor aliens cm, but I just had to experience it enough to understand why it's bad, rather than simply bash it unfoundedly.
Um, k, have fun with that then...

Every time Morgan Freeman shows up to explain a plot, he earns a freckle.

Similarly, everytime someone uses "ftfy" he or she loses a brain cell.
I'm assuming this fact is derived from personal experience?

Josh,

I think an excellent First Troll would be to have a huge sale on 2K games on April 1st, after any leftover Bioshock Infinite credits expire.

It would be a shame to mess up and put them on sale, say, next week.

What's "Killing Floor"?

Trampolines are SOOOOOO dangerous. Maybe he's a living on the edge kinda guy (cue vid/gif response)

Who's Tony?

I'm so excited to be filling Tony's shoes. Just to kick things off right, here are five Origin keys for Titanfall to the first people that can figure out the missing letters:

98F7-BAQV-RKPL-FR23-PKQ?

7VLC-LQCY-332K-JP6C-7WC?

D97P-869V-HJHU-FBNK-CXR?

958G-JH5D-RPX9-ZCXC-C3E?

27TT-WBP2-PBCQ-M4WG-D5E?

We're going to have a great time.
Just a heads up, you're required to PM me and make sure I'm online when things like this happen.

I know, you're new, I'll let this one slide. Just letting you know how things work, bro.

Things are looking up.

People still buy boxed retail PC games? Seems pretty pointless to me since in most cases these days it's just a Steam or Origin or Uplay key that wastes paper and fuel and takes extra time to get to you.
When the boxed retail is shipped to me all for, say, free? Yes, in that case I do buy boxed retail PC games.

Dang. I was working when he did the key drop :( stupid job
Parent-teacher conference here. No biggie. Cool to see such an awesome drop, though.

Do I really need NBA 2K14 if I already have 2K13? It looks like the Space Jam mod is available for 2K13, too.

Eh. Someone either talk me into or out of grabbing 2K14 for $5. Please.

This reminds me of when sneaky parents try to replace the beloved family pet they accidentally backed over with the car. Tony didn't survive the gummy bear challenge, did he? Just say no to gummy bears, Josh.

Graphics are pretty much the same. Gameplay feels slightly different. Obviously if you care about updated rosters stats and mod support $5 is a fair price.

Uh... what just happened. I added NBA2k14 to my cart and by the time I checked out it was Unavailable.

What's the purpose of a cart if it doesn't hold the item? And really? All of a sudden it's out?

Its still available on steam for $10 and the game is really just a roster update.

Well shit, I didn't even want it but now that it's no longer available and I could have gotten it for $5 now I want it.
Yea I hate that feeling. As a cag one must balance the satisfaction of holding off on a deal for a better price later vs the remorse from not seeing the game in your backlog.

Why is it that all the good code drops seem to happen when I'm actually away from a computer or other electronic device that can keep me connected to the world doing stuff?

Is it my irrational fear that the new Amazon rep guy is going to post some awesome sounding deals, have all of us salivating for said deals to go live, only to tell us later, after we've spent all night waiting for the prices to flip, that he was "just joshing" us?  Like Tony's mythical 1C and Strategy First bundles?  :p

If Josh can make the 1C Bundle happen, he will crush all doubt in but a moment.

Do we even want that bundle anymore? Not really, just about every 1C game worth having has been bundled 5 times or more, but at this point it's just the principle of the matter.

If only for Steam keys for AIM Racing, A Farewell to Dragons, and a few other things that, while subsequently bundled (along with just about everything else 1C in that one Groupees build a bundle), didn't yield Steam keys because they were technically "removed" from Steam. Make the bundle $5.01 (less a $5 CAG-code) and it'll sell like hotcakes (presuming that hotcakes sell. Does McDonald's even sell them as such any more?)
