I got this to work though I'm not sure why I did it since I haven't bought anything lately from Amazon without S&S.

Add the Kindle Fire 8GB to your cart (link above), keep going through checkout after the page where you select payment options (using something other than GC Credit) it should popup something about getting Amazon Prime 1 Year for $20 off of the regular price for the first year.
If you select SIGNUP it they will automatically start your Prime membership for $59 + Taxes if applicable. You can then delete the Kindle Fire 8GB from your cart as it is not needed anymore unless of course you actually want it.
