Amazon's Classic Movies Sale - Up to 55% off

I'd be all over this if I weren't waiting for Blu-ray editions. Yes, I know they're all old movies and not exactly 1080p material but I'm waiting just the same...

Looks like you've never seen any of these "old" movies in high definition. It's too bad most (all) of the WB classics on HD DVD haven't been ported over to BD yet. You have no idea what you're missing (Grand Prix, Casablanca, Mutiny on the Bounty)... although Robin Hood (1938) is slated for the end of September. I recommend you check that one out!

Great sale, none the less!

You're right, I really haven't watched old B&W movies in high definition. I know that film in itself should allow for a higher resolution than what DVD is capable of, but is it really that much better in HD/BR? I sure hope so 'cause I can't wait to get my hands on a Blu-ray Criterion version of My Man Godfrey. I'm set to give a lecture on it by the end of the year and it'd be really nice to have that on hand.

My mind boggles at how much that might cost since regular ol' Criterion DVDs are already near the $30 mark, but I'd love that too. It's one of my favorite comedies. :)

Those look great! But now I shudder to think of having to rebuy 400+ classic films on Blu-ray. I guess I'll just get a few and wait for the generation after.

From what I read, Criterion Blu-Rays will have the same MSRP as their DVDs. Of course that doesn't mean retailers may charge more, but hopefully not.

Hopefully amazon will keep them at fare price.
