So whats the deal with Meta Knight and the random black lines and/or smears on his mask? I have two (just picked up my 2nd one in store) and one has heavy black around the 4 things on the top of his mask and the other has almost none at all. Looking at figures online they seem to have a lot of variation with some having black down the middle line of the mask. I know they are mass produced and stuff but it just seems very weird that some have a lot of black, some light, and some hardly any or none at all.

Not sure where you live, but based on sales figures, and conversations I've had with others, most stores couldn't sell Wii U consoles if they were giving them away for free. Plenty of stores here still have unsold stock of Mario 3D and Mario Kart 8 bundles, they're moving off the shelves about as fast as a snail.

Just because you can't find deals like that doesn't mean they don't exist. Plenty of people, including myself, got the XB1 for about $50 thanks to the trade in MS Store promotion. I got the system and around 15 games for under $200 thanks to that promo happening again.

I got a Wii U for trading a PS3. Guy wanted a PS3, so i picked one up at the pawn shop along with some dollar games for under $180 and got a Wii U with four or five games.

Getting good deals like that isnt as inpossible as you act.

I am sure it is different everywhere. I live in Oklahoma, close to Kansas, so, I actually have two states where I go to different stores, and they are selling Wii U's. I was at a Walmart in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, recently, and saw that they didn't have any Wii U's on the shelf. I asked the employee if they had stopped stocking them. She said that they had an order coming, and that since Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. and the amiibo's, that Wii U was selling very well. So, to each there own.

MI here, apparently we have one of the biggest smash brothers communities.
I'm still finding old launch Wii U in my local stores.

Amiibo and N3DS have been selling like hotcakes.

The reason for the black lines and smudges on Meta Knight's face is cause they put a black wash over the faceplate. They do this to make the metal look worn. You see this a lot on "metal" action figures, like Colossus, Wolverine's claws, robot figures, etc. The manufacturer for these Amiibos, I'll admit, were a bit careless and didn't quite even them out. Mine has a few ugly spots but it's not bad.

This has been discussed a ton. They use a thin dark paint to add shadows & weathering to the mask; the idea is that it seeps into the crevices and darkens them. You can see it on Dedede's gloves as well. But the application process is tricky and variable so it didn't come out well for lots of MKs.

Probably just selling through their launch console's. It's widely known that the wii u isn't selling well. Amiibo & 3DS is another story though. But if you guys want to smoke nintendo's pole & gush about the wii u there is a thread for that. Do it there.

It's odd... A lot of the people I've talked to at the Amiibo releases said they don't own a 3DS or Wii U... Sooooo why are you buying these things?

Yeah I understood as much as them trying to do the metal and shadowing effects but some are just straight up black lines lol. Ah well, neither of mine are perfect one has a lot of black but the rest of the figure is painted really well then the other has no black but the rest of the paint job isnt great...dunno which I want to open. Such a big problem to have, I know haha :). I assumed it was probably mentioned before but I've had a flu or something the past couple days and couldnt find it thru all the pages.

 
I'm assuming he lives near Oklahoma City or Tulsa since he mentioned Vintage Stock himself. I used to work at one and know their general locations. Anyways, have you tried searching for the N3DSXL on Target.com?

The worst one I've seen here in Japan actually had a small black outline of a circle, about the side of the head of a nail, on his left cheek. Glad I didn't get stuck with that one.

Same here. The people i know that have amiibo dont own wii u's. They are getting them because they are neat little figures. Some of which have spent $200 on single figures before. So a $13 figure is a no brainer. Also you have those in it just for the money. One of my buddies is a straight up reseller and has no shame in it. Lol!

Figmas/etc. are three to five times as much and don't have the wide variety of characters available that amiibos do. And I buy both, actually!

Actually, they weren't launch units they've been selling out of. They had been selling Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World bundles. Also, I'm not "smoking Nintendo's pole about the Wii U", just making a comment. Don't tell me what the hell to do, either. I was commenting on a reply, and it's not like this doesn't have some relevance to the subject, in that the console we are discussing happens to be compatible with amiibo.

Like i said. If you want to blow nintendo and gush about the wii u go to the wii u general discussion thread. Wii u sales, How much you like bayonetta & how you play your wii u more than your other system's don't have anything to do with amiibo deals & discussion. Stop derailing.

Decided to help a friend complete all the waves of amiibos in exchange for magic cards. I do admire his joy in opening the boxes, especially after exhaling how much value was being lost in opening them

So here is my story. I'm not really a guy to buy figurines but I'm doing a theme for my bedroom between movies and games, mostly for posters but my dad suggested to buy few action figures and displayed them as well. So Friday I couldn't make it to my job so I kinda wanna go to Best Buy which I totally forgot that Game of Thrones Season 4 came out this week and I was so frustrated because of that I didn't got the slipcover I wanted. Anyway so I always check the gaming section and noticed the amiibo section completed empty but there was a Sheik amiibo and looking at all the tag I was like, "wait did a new wave came out recently," and I saw the Toon Link tag and I was like oh man I wish I could have that to put it as part of my bedroom theme. 

So I gather an interested to hunt for that Toon Link. So I went to a Target that is super near, I'm lucky that I have a Target and Best Buy like 5 minutes from my home, to see if there was any Toon Link. For my surprise it looks like no one have gone to that Target since the Amiibo section was packed, apart of the usual commons ones, there was a bunch of Toon Link and Sheik. So I finally grab the Toon Link which was the one I wanted. After I go home I decided to check online and just realized Metal Knight, Ike, Mega Man, and Sonic all came out today. And I kinda wanted Metal Knight and Ike since both look kinda awesome so my hunt for them begins. 

I spend Saturday and Sunday looking around and I even thought of collecting all the amiibo but I just realized that for doing this you need a lot of free time which I don't have. So end of story, at least I got Link and Zelda as well. I may get a few like Samus and Mario but amiibo are too time consuming and too much hassle. I really wish I could get Metal Knight and Ike. Maybe I will pay attention for when Ganondorf amiibo comes out because I need to complete the Legend of Zelda amiibo, which reminds me that I should have gotten Sheik as well.

I had wave 1 and 2 new in box. I couldn't decide if I should buy a set in box and then the ones I wanted out of box, or just all out of box. Eventually I just had an awesome day and opened them all. I don't think many of them will be worth much, eventually Nintendo will reprint as it's just money waiting...but really who knows. I sold an extra Marth and two villagers and made back all the money I spent on the buy 2 get 1 promo for wave 1-3 of amiibo...that helped justify opening them a bit.
