 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Got my shipment of blus from Amazon UK. Everything looks great and it all came faster I suppose since I got four things this time around (1 week, 1 day since I ordered). I really love the Durarara packaging and everything else looks like it's in pristine condition. Hell, Amazon UK even put my Rurouni Kenshin steelbook in another box just so it wouldn't get dented. +200 respect points.

The only negative I must mention is that apparently the Durarara! UK blus have some errors on them such as the scene menus leading to the wrong places, timing errors, missing subtitles, and the subtitles for the signs are also untranslated (but they were absent in the American release too according to other posters but present in the USA DVD release).

Since my order shipped before I could cancel, I posted in the thread and got a reply directly from the company president promising me he would ship the corrected blus to the US and that the fixes would be shipped November. The company's issues were due to Australia doing QA instead of Anime Limited in the UK. So... yeah, I guess I'll keep it for now. Not to mention the box art for the set is fantastic so I'd be sad to ship it back. :D

It'll arrive with the case...relatively speaking.

If memory serves me correctly, that set is the outer cardboard set with the two thinpaks on the inside, and the last time I ordered one of these Funi type sets previously viewed from Hastings they cut the cardboard box so it will fit inside the plastic cover of a rental case, and then pop the discs inside the case, so when you receive the item it will be in a rental case with the cardboard box cut into pieces and stuffed in as the cover art.

Knowing you that will probably drive you nuts though once you receive it, so good luck. XD
Oh THAT flimsy design. I've got a few like Rumbling Hearts.

Thumbs up for Castle of Cagliostro. I wish the US had a blu-ray release.
The problem is all Miyazaki movies are overpriced by Disney here and I refuse to pay for their BS "premium" prices. As for this movie, yeah, I agree. I saw it here and had to grab it.

Pretty sure Disney doesn't have the distribution rights for Cagliostro. Don't know if anyone has them since Manga Video's rights expired. Disney prices on Miyazaki/Ghibli films are expensive indeed though. I generally wait for them to go on sale.

:EDIT: Found this when looking for film rights to Cagliostro. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-03-26/discotek-to-release-lupin-iii/the-castle-of-cagliostro-film-on-bd/dvd :D

If you want to talk about overpriced, let's talk about what they charge for Ghibli Blu-rays in Japan, not the US. We're getting a bargain.

I only watched the first two episodes, but I though it was decent so far. The fanservice so far wasn't that bad compared to other shows that use it as a crutch

Does anyone have anything to say about Dusk Maiden of Amnesia?
I thought it was good, but the issue as noted previously is that while the potential of the plot at time seem like it could go somewhere deeper, and more complicated, instead it gets clouded by the fan service. There's a lot of places in the series where you really wanted the revelation in the plot to go somewhere, but it gets derailed by fan service.

It's one of those serious that has a hard time deciding whether it wants to be dark, or it wants to be comedy, and doesn't really balance both well, so if you're looking for one or the other you definitely won't be getting that.

However, if I were to rate it in a harem/romcom category, then I would say it's pretty good if you were looking for something in that genre, but definitely be prepared to struggle with consistency as you watch.

Again, I enjoyed it, but definitely not something I would pay more than $30 for.

On the contrary I've only ever paid an average of $10 on a disney bluray including thier studio gibli. Just get threm through the disney movie club.

I'd like to own Fate/stay night, but I'm not going to spend $60 for a complete series of a show that's ... almost 10 years old, even on blu-ray.

I'd buy Macross on blu-ray if it was ever made available here, I still refuse to pay the Japanese price. Freakin Harmony Gold just needs to die they are like a Macross patent troll.

It's a typical Sentai release but I feel that age doesn't affect anything about the release. Shirou's derps aside, the show still holds up pretty well. I sold my DVD set (for $25) and got each blu set for $25 each from DVD Planet a few months ago. :D

"Note: Each episode features both English and Japanese audio, and is unedited."

i wonder what they are doing about the english stuff... are they making a new dub (if so why is it listed as mono only) or was this dubbed somewhere fully and I didn't know... last I checked the english version was chopped up and shortened.

Actually, the Nelvana dub covered all 70 episodes. Kids WB just chopped up and skipped many of them. Many countries outside the US got all the episodes.

While it is very, very, VERY tempting, I think I will stick with my old Geneon DVDs.

They are also doing over Fate/Stay with Ufotable (Fate/Zero) in charge this year.

Knew that Cardcaptor Sakura will be rereleased someday. *looks at price* should've known that I would have to pay a lot for them.

NISA's Cardcaptor Sakura Premium Blu-ray box is actually quite the deal. It's 70 episodes, so if you break down the $178.99, you're basically buying five $30.68 12 episode sets and one $25.57 10 episode set. Compare that to NISA's usual releases that are 12 episodes which cost $47.99.

You're paying for everything upfront instead of buying in discrete parts, so it only seems expensive.

For those interested in the Shonen Jump Big 3, Volume 1 of Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece (digital-only) will go on sale for $1.99 starting May 1st. Bleach is only for the one day, but the other two are for the entire month.

Yea...but you get the Nelvana dub with it.
Actually, you get the Animax Asia dub with it. The Nelvana dub isn't a part of this at all.

If that set goes on sale, I'll probably pick it up, but I won't pay full price, since I already have it on DVD. Love the show, though.

Anyone else hoping we'll have follow-up news of Marmalade boy being license rescued?
Already have that, too, but for the folks who have yet to see it, yes!

that would be fine... maison ikkoku needs to be saved as well though.

in different news gamefly seems to rent out some anime now (not much but still)

dvd

blu ray

the plus side would be that we might get some cheap deals from them when they go to sell their used copies

Even though I have the complete MI set, I whole heartly agree. Worth noting Viz has their Spring Survey out right now for 2014 and it has a couple of Rumiko Takahash related questions. Filling it out might help in maybe getting a blu-ray release.

*goes to fill out the quiz*

they fail so hard, they include the psp but not the vita :/

I wonder if they will get annoyed at my response to their ranma sets... it was something along the lines... They look fine but I don't care, I won't buy ranma again until there is a new series that fully covers the manga :p

Just noticed on the dashboard of my Xbox One that the first season of Fairy Tail is free through Xbox Video until 5/8, this is similar to what they did with DBZ before and I still have that so I'm assuming if you download it you get to keep it forever again.

Then the rest of the seasons are 30% off, all at various prices around like $17-$20 for the HD seasons and $12-$15 for the SD ones.

Is Cardcaptor Sakura worthwhile even if I'm not a huge magical-girl fan? I have...memories (not fond, not unpleasant, I just can't remember specifics) of watching the dubbed version on WB Kids! eons ago.

I'm fairly sure I saw some of the subbed and dubbed episodes on Youtube at some point. You should check a few of them out to get a feel for the show, considering the $180 outlay for the Blu's.
