 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

How much of a difference is there?
Depends on where, but you can get non scale figures for 300-1500, scaled figures for 1000-5000 less than what they would sell for at anime cons and on internet.

Case in point:

Just wanted to brag about some recent cheap finds. The hard part is trying to send them back.

I think the creepiest anime figure store I went to that was just off of the Denden strip was a store that only carried anime girl figures where they had taken off all of the skirts, and anything clothes related that could be detached from the figures, and these were figures that weren't meant to have anything removed from the figures. I had an eerie feelingwalking through the aisles, so I left after a few minutes later after being stared at by the shady ass store clerk at the counter the entire time. *shivers*

No matter how much I scrub I can't get that feeling off of me...~_~
Lol forced cast off figures haha. There is a big market for them apparently. No thanks haha.

*sees Dizzy* son of a..... I need to go sit down for a moment.

Hope you enjoy it. I freaking love One Piece. It starts a little slow, but really picks up around episode 30 something.

So my backordered Slayers season 1-3 from the Rightstuf holiday sale finally arrived yesterday. Yay! Only had to wait almost a month...
Well said about One Piece. I concur 100%

At first I watched up to episode 6, or 7, and gave up saying that it wasn't for me. Then about 7 months back or so I gave it another go and stuck with it. Happy that I did.

I've somehow managed to dig myself into a $1600 hole with manga buying this month, and we're not even halfway through the month yet... ~_~
Ouch. This month, I've spent close to that amount on building a new PC. So my wallet is hurting too. Have you been buying manga from Barnes and Noble? I know they currently have a buy 2 get 1 free on Viz titles.

Yeah, I wasn't really too impressed with the first few episodes either. Stuck with it and became addicted. I watched the first 400 or so episodes in like 2 months. Best use of unemployment time ever...

I'm still holding off on upgrading my PC since it always gets quite pricey because it's for gaming, so I know how you feel. T___T

I'm mainly been purchasing at Rightstuf and eBay actually. I don't have a B&N around me anymore for some years now, so that makes me has sad. T___T

Really? There's like 5 of them here within about 10 minutes from me.
Indeed. My last one closed down awhile ago, and that was like 5 minutes away from me.

The next closest one is located in a downtown area where parking is always a nightmare, so unless I'm there to meet up with people I won't really just go there on my own to shop. ~_~

Never got into manga or figures myself though I have a few cheap chinese figures lol. Anime is expensive enough :<
I actually prefer manga over anime, especially for long running series like a One Piece or Dragonball. As a kid, I read and reread the Japanese tankoubans of Dragonball over and over (and by read I mean looked at the pictures) and several times since then in English, but despite buying the DBZ anime multiple times, I doubt I'll ever go through the entire series more than a couple of times in my life. I can't imagine going through the One Piece anime multiple times.

Backorder on Fry's order. Hate when this happens. Hopefully it isn't too long. Definitely not a month like some of you guys. That would really suck.

My Funimation order from Cyber Monday finally shipped this week.  They gave me $20 back for the incovenience which was nice I didn't ask for anything since they only charged me when the order shipped so I wasn't out money during the wait.  Hopefully they'll improve their store front and have a similar sale again. For these prices I didn't mind the wait since it all goes to the backlog.

What did you end up buying and how much again? I forgot the cyber Monday prices because I didn't pay attention since I had zero munnies.

Can someone educate me on the difference between Highschool DxD and Highschool of the Dead. Are they the same thing or different? Which is better?

Also is anyone familiar with the Section23 Golgo 13 anime? It's really good and I just started it. Had it on the backlog from the RightStuf sale. Episodic and procedural but really good. Visuals are nice. Pretty hard to adapt since Golgo 13 is based on wordly events most of the time so good job on that. It does get a little boring sometimes because the storyline isn't drawn out. It ends at each episode.

High School of the Dead is an action series about a bunch of kids during a zombie apocalype. High School DxD is a harem series about a guy who becomes a demon and becomes part of a high-ranking demon family. Both series have a ton of fan-service though DxD has more nudity.

I picked up Golgo 13 during the holiday sale as well though haven't started it yet lol

Picked up.

FMA: BROTHERHOOD - PART 5 $12.37
SHIKI $13.12
Sgt Frog Season 3 One $5.99
Sgt Frog Season 3 Two $5.99
Lupin III - The Woman called Fukiko LE $26.25
CORPSE PRINCESS $10.49

Highschool of the Dead is Walking Dead with more schoolgirls and gratuitous T&A.

High School DxD is an action ecchi that is somehow more explicit than porn but also has a pretty deep plot (in the novels anyway, the anime has barely scratched the surface).

HOTD has more gore, but DxD has more boobies.

Nice! I picked up last exile, dance in the vampire bund, gai-rei-zero,head chaos and code breaker oh and good luck girl.I had used to %10 off towards the final day of the sales to place my order and it arrived within a week.

Berserk complete ended at a 38 bid. Would've bought but then I remembered that I still have my Majoras Mask 3DS to pay for, Coachella Fest and Wrestlemania. Still that's really low for Berserk. Although it's more cost efficient imo to get the individual volumes at around 5 a piece or maybe even less. Didn't look at what shipping was but probably astronomical in order to make up for any cost not earned through bidding.

Only if Japan gave Highschool DxD more than 13 episodes per season.
That's why we have Shinmai Maou no Testament now :D

No. Most cost efficient would just to check eBay at random times. You can score a complete collection for $38 or cheaper at times.

so it is hard to tell if there will be any more, but a few titles will go on sale on frys in about 3 hours

if I click the ad it doesn't show any other ones at this time so it's not fully updated.

that is the only one that clearly shows anime but there are others that might include some as well

list should go live here at 2:30am pacific time or about 3 hours from now.

also playing around on frys some other anime deals that I don't remember being posted:

you are under arrest full throttle collection 1 $4

you are under arrest full throttle collection 2 $4

you are under arrest season 2 collection 1 $5.99

you are under arrest season 2 collection 2 $4

gintama collection 4 $4 (this one goes for $20 plus on amazon but available for in store pick up only.)

The $4 ones was part of last week's sale, but that has ended now since this week's sale is up (it's only a dollar or two more regularly anyways).

How reliable is Fry's when it comes to backorders? Should I expect a cancelation or do you eventually get your order? Looking at those "you're under arrest" collections

Its amazing that it took that long to get your order. My funimation order shipped extremely quickly, I received everything within a few days. Their packaging wasn't anything special but at those prices Im hoping they have another sale.

It won't get cancelled, but you may be waiting for quite a awhile for it to actually get fulfilled as some people have been waiting for about a month for some of their orders, and are still waiting, lol.

That's good to know. I already had to send a reply about one of my orders and tell them that I want to keep my order and agree to an indefinite shipping date.

They generally don't cancel unless the item has been discontinued, and they won't be getting any more in stock, but other than that they'll just keep hanging on to the order until further notice.

The annoying thing about this is that their system doesn't separate out, and reserve stock in the warehouse for orders line and restock of items shipped to stores, so basically the people in the warehouse would have to specifically fulfill your order first prior to sending stuff out to stores for restock, or else you'll just be waiting on your order.

I was pretty shocked when I heard that was how it worked in their warehouse when I asked my friend who worked at a Fry's warehouse about it. What a crappy system... :p

They announced the screenings for the Naruto The Last movie and the tickets are already basically gone...not that there were many screening options to begin with. More screenings please in more locations please...

Okay so I'm new to this thread and wanting some suggestions.  I'm wanting to start watching some anime but have limited time and my kids probably aren't old enough to watch this stuff with me anyway, so I'm not looking to go nuts or anything - just looking for the "best of the best".  I'm talking strictly things that are overwhelmingly and universally regarded as MUST WATCH series or movies.

I ordered the complete Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo series from Amazon last week when they were on sale to get started and hope to begin one this weekend.  I have zero knowledge of this stuff for the most part and am not looking to spend a ton of money on anything, just a few more series to go along with what I've already got.  My goal is to become an ultra-casual watcher of anime.  Like people who will only watch movies associated with names like Scorsese, Tarantino, etc. lol

I've Googled for ideas and it's quite overwhelming.  I tend to trust the CAG community for suggestions even though I know nothing is 100% universally agreed upon.

i don't have enough time to post a bunch of shows, but I wanted to note if your kids are over 3 years old there are plenty of anime out there for them to watch such as pokemon if they are over 8 years old they could watch stuff like naruto or one piece.

My 8 and 7 yr old watch gurren lagann, it's actually there favorite anime so maybe have them watch some drill powered gunmen.

You're Under Arrest has 3 Seasons and a movie. Season 1 and the movie were licensed by ADV and fully dubbed, but was never collected into a boxset. Currently it is out of print.

Seasons 2 and 3 are available sub-only from Sentai. The show is a screwball comedy slice of life anime. Kinda like Patlabor without the giant robots. It also features probably the only cross dresser in television history who is an actual character and not comic relief or something to be shunned. It is actually a pretty fun show.
