 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

The last time they gave me a delivery estimate update they moved my shipping date back, so this time is already better since they're moving it up. :D

Placed an order for FotNS on July 15th, but I'm still getting Amazon's typical line, "We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."

I don't mean to sound like a jerk trying to be happy at your misfortune, but that sounds like a good indicator that they are actually trying to fulfill these orders in waves. The person that ordered the day before it was posted here getting his shipped out, some of the first folks here ordering it getting their status changed, while ones presumably further down the line have not yet.

I hope everyone that ordered it eventually gets a copy.

RS had it up for awhile now. I think 2 or 3 days. And with the discount it brings it to $100 or was it $111. Something along those lines.

I really wish they didn't change Syorean's name for no reason. And that they didn't include yet another shitty Animax dub.

I actually have the set (got it for $150 from Amazon) and I still haven't decided if I want to keep it over my Geneon DVDs or sell it.

WTF did they change it to?

Edit:

If you mean from syaoran to Xiaolang, it's the exact same thing. It's the same as complaining about naming someone Alisa instead of "arisa." Which they did. In Tekken. And Trails. And God Eater.

Yes, I'm talking about Xiaolang. And it's fucking distracting. Instead of enjoying the show again, everytime I see it I have to mentally take myself out and change the name to Syaorean.

Also, they really changed Alisa's name to Arisa in the God Eater anime? Despite them keeping it to Alisa in the original game and both Project X Zone games?

Well, let me take some text from an amazon review which kind of explains the problem

"in Cardcaptor Sakura, for a majority of the series, Sakura would call Syaoran "Li-kun" and Syaoran would call Sakura...well, nothing. However, on the Blu-ray subtitles, whenever Sakura said "Li-kun", the subtitles showed "Xiaolang"...Oh my god, she specifically says "Li-kun". Why did NIS take it upon themselves and changed it to "Xiaolang"?
People who never watched the series would probably say "who cares?", but for the people who did watch the series, you guys know how significant the whole "Li-kun" to "Syaoran-kun" phase was to the series and to the fans.It was one of the most important S+S scenes in the whole series.
So this change gets awkward come time for the actual scene in episode 57 "Sakura, Syaoran and the Elevator". At the scene where Sakura calls Syaoran to ask if she can call him "Syaoran-kun" from then on, the subtitles changed her whole dialogue to say something along the lines of "Can we get to know each other better?"....That's not what she said...that's not even remotely close to what she said."

Is this a problem with the dub or sub? If it's the sub, then I don't care since I never watch anime subbed. I remember his name was Li/Lee when I watched this show as a kid.

It's a problem with the sub. (Another problem? The sub is mono-only. Yay!)

The dub is a whole other mess of problems.

^^^ Mother of god that sounds so fucking annoying. Is that the new dub or has that always been the original dub?
That is the Animax dub made for Southeast Asia. It was made more or less around the same time as the Nelvana dub (which you can hear on the CCS Movie 1 DVD and Blu-ray released by Discotek).

I dunno, I don't think it's as bad as the Build Fighters dub, I can almost sit through a few episodes of the CCS Animax dub

For reference (hopefully these embeds work), here is the edited Nelvana dub.

And here is a clip from Geneon's dub of Movie 2 (literally the ONLY clip I could find of it on YouTube):

https://youtu.be/EGs48VljCno

The Geneon Movie 2 dub is actually quite awesome. The clip doesn't really do it justice since Kari Walghren and Mona Marshall are play-acting instead of actually acting. I wish I could find a clip that had them talking normally.

Plus, it's the only dub that managed to pronounce Sakura's name right.

Oh damn, this is the dub I was expecting. Oh well, $140 to relive this show on blu-ray is still totally worth it.

On another note, B&N has a 40% off coupon: LMQCJGX26KQFK

It doesn't seem to work on pre-orders, though.

Oh, yeah, saying "subs are always better" using two of the worst dubs ever made (not counting the Geneon dub, it is good) as your proof makes total sense.

Changing from Li-kun to Syaoran is important, but only if you know Japanese culture. And it's hard to express in English subtitles. Subtitling honorifics is always a weird beast.

But for Li Xiaolang / Ri Syaoran is completely moot. Canonically, he's from China, with a Chinese name, which is Li Xiaolang. To write it phonetically in Japanese, it's Ri Syaoran (リ・シャオラン). So where Li Syaoran comes from, I don't even know. But mixing Chinese and Japanese romanization looks even weirder to me. His name, in the end, is Li Xiaolang, pronounced in Japanese as Ri Syaoran. It makes no sense to romanize his phonetic spelling.

Plus, I don't know why someone who keeps writing Syaorean even cares.

A little off topic just watched a trailer for a silent voice movie, looks pretty good so started reading the manga. I think I may have to purchase it I'm really enjoying it.

Agree to disagree, then. I'm going to use the name used in the original release, the Japanese products, the original manga, Tsubasa, xxxHOLiC, the Discotek release of Movie 1, and the name that will likely be used whenever the sequel manga is licensed. If you want to use the name that one shitty company used for no reason whatsoever, go for it. Meanwhile, I'll wait patiently for an actual competent Blu-ray release.

I really wanna go see this in theaters. They even made a terrible song to go with it. But it's hard justifying spending $16 to see it once when I can almost buy a bluray for that price.

This is the only correct way to watch cardcaptors

I've read the entire manga and it's easily one of the best I've ever read. Definitely worth having in your collection. I'm excited to see how they adapted it into a movie.

Eh, I did it for GitS: Arise and Boruto, so I'll probably check it this out, even if Tri has a crap ton of problems.

I'ma pretend you didn't say that. I mean, it's better than the Animax dub, but so is getting a root canal.

I enjoyed the manga. The ending? Not so much. But that's probably because I expected too much with the characters

Of course the Digimon movie is playing an hour away. It says an hour and 52 minutes, are they sound part 1 and 2?
It's only Part 1. Fathom Events lists the running time as 80 minutes, so it's likely your theater mistyped it or they're doing something unique afterwards or something.

When They Cry Kai Complete Collection Blu-Ray is on sale for $29.99 at the Sentai Filmworks store. If you add the code "WEEKEND25" the price drops to $22.5. Though shipping and handling kind of kills the deal, since the cheapest option is $7 priority mail, the price is still probably as low as it will ever go.

I can't post the link because I don't have 3 posts on CAG but it should be easy to find.

Seriously? Even if it was playing at my local theater is have a hard time paying $16 for an 80 minute movie.
Yeah...Though I heard it'll get a general release later on, IIRC. (Not sure, but I've looked up on it.)

Besides, this is probably most catering to the digifans, most presumably, the dub voices.

Matinee or bust!
If there was one. >.> (Its only a 1-time screening.)

I would see almost any anime movie that played in a theater near me.
For me it's subtitles or bust. So it is highly unlikely that I would ever see an anime in a movie theater. For those screenings they almost always go dubbed. It would be nice to have some kind of anime club, that would rent theaters and hold screenings for members of the club. But that would have to be a local thing.

Also, Amazon is claiming that my Fist of the North Star is supposed to ship today, and arrive later this week. We'll see though.
