Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Has anyone been watching Domestic Girlfriend? This show is a lot better than I would have expected. The opening sounds like it's sung by YUI, but doesn't appear to be since I don't see her name pop up (or somehow missed it). Good one tho!
Is it good? I was told to stay away and it's a garbage show

I'm enjoying it so far. It's not a top class show or anything, but it's higher on my list than just about every other show that arrives on Friday's.
I'd probably give it a shot if I wasn't so backlogged as it is. My rom/coms this season are Kaguya sama & Quintuplets. Caught up with both of them last night and I like them.

Kaguya is actually really funny, and I typically don't find anime humor very funny.

Quintuplets is your typical harem. Really nothing new, but it's charming.

Also started watching My Roommate is a Cat. This was a pleasant surprise. Reminds me a little of Barakamon which I loved. I totally recommend it if you want a laid back SoL with some feels.

So Reincarnated as a Slime seemed to indicate there's an additional episode, but when I looked it up it seems like it's done. I know there's a 2nd season in 2020. Maybe I misunderstood as I was multitasking? Either way, will be nice to see more. It seemed like they really truncated the story around him summoning a demon, particularly given the 24th episode. I think I may need to rewatch the 23rd episode again and the ending of 24... lol

So it's confirmed we're gettingmore Slime? Good, I really liked that show. Is the last episode a filler?

Has anyone been watching Magical Index S3? It feels like it's suffering from the "Tokyo Ghoul" effect. It seems like it's all over the place and I quickly lost interest other than the hope that it wraps up the story. It feels rushed and the plot moves quickly from "big event" to "big event". Is this how the manga/LN or whatever the source was paced? If so I can understand why it took so long to release S3. "Do we want everyone to know how much this sucks after the anime part of the story?" Might just be me, but the show used to be more interesting I thought.

I don't remember much about SNAFU. I'm defiantly going to need a refresher at some point. But I remember liking it. Is season 3 supposed to conclude the story?
I'm going to need a refresher as well, though I definitely enjoyed the series. I believe season 3 will be, at the very least, a continuation of the LNs.

So hyped for Snafu S3! I love how S2 ended (such an interesting final episode) and can't wait to see what happens next.

Three more eps! Good excuse to watch from the beginning again. Does this finish the story, or is there still more left?

Violet Evergarden has an extra episode up. This is probably old and I just didn't notice before.

Yesterday I watched the Christmas special for Aggretsuko (after rewatching S1). Good stuff.

Netflix is really killing it with anime. I read they will be the first (legal) streaming site for Evangelion. I'm looking forward to Castlevania S3, Aggretsuko S2, Kakegurui S2, GitS SAC 2045, and Gods & Heroes.

Has anyone watched anything from the new season yet? I've checked out:

 • Cinderella 9 - bog standard slice of life sports anime with cute girls....seems fairly average
 • Midnight Occult Civil Servants (MOCS so I don't torture myself) - this was entertaining, but average so far. may or may not do a little better
 • Bokuben - this reminds me of the quintuplet show from last season....which for me is average
 • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - somewhat standard show IMO, but with the potential for greatness depending on how the plot develops
 • Amazing Stranger - I was creeped out 5 minutes in and dropped it
 • Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu - this show I liked quite a bit. Seems like a fun, goofy, slice of life show that could be a really good, relaxing watch this season
 • Fruits Basket (I've never watched the original) - I also really like this one so far. I know it has high praise, so I'm looking forward to it.
 • Ultraman - This is kind of your standard Power Rangers-style super hero show. Expect it to be entertaining, but not deviating far from the standard tropes
 • Shoumetsu Toshi - No clue what's going to happen with this show. First episode was really intriguing. It's either going to do better from here or fall into a very dark hole....literally!
I'm really looking forward to Isekai Quartet, OPM S2, AoT S3, Gundam Origin series, and 7 Seeds that are late April or later in the season. There seem to be a lot of near porn type shows this season (relative to the usual), so if that's your thing, you can go watch those too. Let me know if any of you have seen the above or tried other shows and liked them!

Edit: Also, there seems to be an isekai type show that has a pretty garbage rating. Kono Yo no Hate de Koi o Utau Shoujo Yu-no. fuck that's a long name...I'm a sucker for isekai shows. I may also check out RobiHachi.

Thanks for the rundown. I've only seen Demon Slayer out of the new shows this season. I liked it and the intro (played at the end) makes it look like it gets pretty involved. But I did watch Joshi Kausei, the 3 minute episode with no talking. It was stupid. Maybe after it finishes and I want to watch some brainless crap show I'll binge it.

I'll check out Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu. Seems like a show I'd like.

Finshed up a Kaguya-sama. I enjoyed it until the last 2 episodes. I hate shows that tease you only to end up back where you started. I was totally expecting it to end like this but for once I'd like to be pleasantly surprised and see the two MCs make progress.

I'm guessing the Gundam Origin show is just the 6 OVAs cut and edited into a series. Which BTW was fantastic. While it helps to know about Gundam, Char & Amaro going in, you can totally watch this as a starting point. And I hope I'm not spoiling anything by saying it ends right were the original Gundam series starts. It really made me want to jump into the original show again.

Yeah I didn't watch the 3 minute show, but read that it was silent. Not my kind of thing, so once I found out it was 3 min long I just didn't care. For Gundam Origins I watched most if not all of the OVAs and thought they were fantastic, so being able to see it as a series has me excited. Pretty sure I missed the last one or two OVAs. It looks like episode 1 of that Isekai show is out, so I'm going to go check it out tonight and see if I like it.

Alright, watched a few more shows:

 • HachiRobi - Kind of a weird show. Wasn't really sure where it was going until they decided to create Mazinger Z or something similar at the end. Will give it 3 episodes before throwing it to the wind
 • The isekai show I was referring to before has had 2 episodes to date. Not feeling it so far. Has an interesting premise but....I dunno, feels generic as hell. It's also not quite isekai (yet) since we're talking about parallel realities vs a completely different world
 • OPM was great. Looking forward to more
 • Isekai quartet was short and sweet. Honestly the Konosuba participation was great...so true to form I was lol'ing. For what's ostensibly a dumb premise, I expect this to be a pretty entertaining show.

Man today's episode of Shield Hero was torture. Great episode and ends with a completely suspenseful moment that I have to wait a week for >.< Dammit! lol Still chugging along with the other shows this season. OPM is looking really good, can't wait for more. Isekai Quartet still produced lots of lol's for me. I forgot to mention another show I've been watching, Fairy Gone. So far so good. This is shaping up to be a solid season with good variety to the shows.

I've mainly been watching dumb high school comedy anime.

Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu - The MC can get frustrating to watch. But at least it's better than Watamote were the MC makes no progress at all. I'll keep watching.

Ao-chan Can't Study! - I feel like I've seen this show 100 times already and I'm pretty sure I know how this is going to end already. I may drop this.

We Never Learn: BOKUBEN - Probably my favorite among these shows. But after watching Quintessential Quintuplets last season this scernerio seems a bit derivative.

Why the hell are you here, Teacher!? - This show is a train wreak, but like a train wreak I just can't look away. It's smut and stupid. But sometimes I need that.

Senryu Girl - Unless you want a generic harem look away, Nothing special here.

Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki - This was kinda cute, but it's a 3 minute short. For these shows I typically wait till the the season is done and binge it. I'll do the same for this.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions for those titles. Sorry you had to suffer through them!

I'd say We Never Learn is worth a view. Besides the smutty "Why are you here Teacher" the rest aren't bad. Just kinda bland IMO.

I guess it's not fair to say We Never Learn is dirivitive, but it's still hard not to draw similarities with Quintuplets, which I finished obly a few days ago.

Just watched episode 13 of Shield Hero.

After finding out that the mana sword did not kill Myne, my disappointment was immeasurable and my night was ruined.
lol they kind of implied that when she got it, that it is for something very specific. That's why she can use it like that and not "worry". Agree with you though!

I'm quickly starting to think that Isekai Quartet may be one of the best new shows this season. I love it so much. If you enjoyed the respective shows, I think this is just a winner of a show. So funny and entertaining.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, YU-NO is hot trash. Not only is it nowhere near the brilliance in story telling that is Stein's Gate, it has morally reprehensible content for the sake of pandering to the lowest common denominator versus for good plot reasons. Obviously, the second part of my statement is based on my own views, so others may not feel the same, but the first part I think is hard to deny. Not since School Days have I felt as much disgust as I do for this show.

Bringing this back around to a positive note, the first episode of AoT was perhaps one of the strongest episodes they've had since season 1. Really awesome. Can't wait for this all to play out!

The only one I didn't complete was Tanya. But I saw enough to get the jist of it. And I agree, it's just a fun show and I'm loving it. But watching the four shows definitely helps.

I recommend watching Tanya. It was a solid show and hopefully gets another season.

I saw the first 2 episodes. There was too much to watch at the time and I put it off.

Going to watch Dragon Ball Super: Broly tonight. Haven't seen it yet. Really looking forward to it.

Nice! I still need to watch that. I did get tickets to the Code Geass movie for next week. Pretty excited to see it. Hope it's not garbage and ruins the original. Code Geass is my favorite anime series.

Not sure if folks know, but some of the OP/ED songs for some anime appear on iTunes from time to time. Rise of the Shield Hero are on there (also English versions, though the rhythm is slightly off when they sing in English). LiSA songs are generally on there, but the Kimetsu no Yaiba OP wasn't on when I last checked.

Oh man....this last Hitoribocchi had me laughing like crazy. The special ending song too...lol! Show is great. This is definitely one of the stealth winners this season along with Isekai Quartet.

It's my current favorite slice of life too. We never Learn has been enjoyable too.

I'm going to drop Ao-Chan can't study. I got 3 episodes in and I just can't stomach it anymore.

Oh yes, it's finally made! Only took about five months of spare time. A certain not so magical checklist of anime released on DVD and Blu-Rays from a publisher. Wonder who that could be? Mystery I guess. Actually got the pair of them online Friday, but in the excitement at getting that project done I failed to post about it. :whistle2:

Not sure if folks have heard/watched, but Carole & Tuesday (currently distributed by Netflix only in Japan) is really good. Worth finding and watching!
