I don't know how much laptops go for, I might be way off on this, but I was just wondering if anybody knew of a laptop that's around $500 bucks and capable of playing last-gen games on high settings. (ie. Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike, Doom 3, etc). I have a chance to get spend around $500 on a laptop, and I just wanted to know what my options are.

Any help is appreciated.
 
You can find them for around that much on black Friday, but other than that, you'd be hard pressed to find one for that much most of the year. At least that will play all those games.

Well that sucks. How much does a computer like that usually go for?
 
You can maybe find a low profile one to play HL2 and CS but doom3 would be a problem. Look at HP, Dell, and maybe Gateway.

I just threw Doom 3 on the list because I thought it was of the same caliber of Half-Life 2.


So none of these would be ok? I'm really not familiar with computer terminology, so I don't know what most of this means...

Wow, thanks. That last one looks absolutely perfect. And this will definitely play most last-gen games well?
 
If you have a choice, select Intel Core 2 Duo over the AMD because it's faster and better on battery life. (I actually like AMD more, but their X2s offer less performance and drain the battery faster).

I know HP offers this for no additional charge (no clue about Dell), but the 64bit version of Vista runs faster so you should look into whether or not that option is good for you.
