Anyone here ever trade in a PS3 system at BestBuy?

I have a PS3 system with a minor issue. The employee at Best Buy told me that all I need is the power cord to trade in the unit. I'm curious what they look and test for if they even test these units at all. 

 
When I traded in my 360 during the trade up to PS4 promo, I had the console and power brick in the original box and she just scanned the box and never even opened it.

 
I traded in my buddies 2nd gen PS3 when I got my PS4 (hooked him up with my pre-order since I couldn't afford it and the XBOX ONE at the time). They did power it on and test a disc to see if it worked.  My guess is that they do check them, but I can also say not all stores are the same.
